Fairly common…

MA BMBCh - any doctor who studied medicine at Oxford

PhD - lots of doctors have PhDs as well as a medical degree

FRCP - Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, a neurology consultant is either going to have MRCP or FRCP after their name

There is nothing wrong with the review of TSP written by a neurologist in the context of book review section of a neurology journal aimed at healthcare professionals and academics who will understand that “of benefit” (or whatever the phrase was) does not mean a miracle cure nor that it will benefit everyone. I am sure the writer would have been more careful with their wording if it had been aimed at the general public.

As for posting links to a listing for a property related company owned by a doctor who may or not be Moth’s neurologist… 🤬 The implication of that post is possibly libellous. This thread is turning into a witch hunt of people who have nothing to do with the allegations against Sally.

I would just take that for luvvie hyperbole?

Yes. JI is doing publicity for a feelgood film. He's not going to say "Well, I preferred playing Lucius Malfoy because he was nicer" even if it was what he thought and I doubt he did.

I feel sorry for people associated with the film because they are at lots of removes from the truth of all this. However, I think GA and JI are big enough and more than talented enough for it not to affect their careers.

Chat GPT is very good at aping I ask it to do a Larkin version with echoes of Aubade.

The Saltier Path
(They walked. It didn’t help.)
What did you expect?
A breakthrough?
An epiphany somewhere near Padstow,
feet bloodied but hearts aglow?
They lost the house—
to debts, or fate, or something vague
no one dares name but everyone earns.
So they left.
The coast was there.
It usually is.
The path was long.
So were the silences.
They spoke in sighs and rustling maps,
in muttered slurs about the other’s pace,
or face.
Each mile stripped back
another lie they’d called marriage.
Each night in a damp two-man tent
proved it was never love—
just habit
dressed in wool socks.
The sea looked on
and did not care.
This isn’t a story of survival.
It’s a slow failure,
drawn out over cliffs
and flapjack wrappers.
Hope doesn’t shimmer here.
It shrivels.

That is hilarious - proper Larkin misery!

Just saw the Ray/Jason Issacs interview. It’s interesting that Jason sees Moth as being one of the best people he’s ever known, with huge charisma & almost messiah-like qualities.

Conmen are often like that on the surface.

EternalLodga · 10/07/2025 19:59

I tracked down the Sacha and Avi comment.
Unfortunately there's nothing to see here. The poster of that comment seems to be quite unwell and is based in America, and has dedicated their profile to hounding a young couple for being part of a conspiracy-style global paedophile ring of elites.

People like this are quite dangerous in my experience. They rarely seem to have genuine affection, respect, or compassion for others.

EternalLodga · 10/07/2025 20:02

I still think that the fact that good looking, well spoken, charismatic Moth has had so little screen time is majorly suss.
I also find it weird that they were so taken with literature and writing that they set up a publishing company, yet he had "no idea" Sally "could" write.

you’re right but it does feel like he’s got a unusually convincing charm about him (?)

Catwith69lives · 10/07/2025 20:06

I think the publishing company was just a desperate attempt to flog their house rather than an attempt to unleash an untapped literary muse.

If Sally is aka Izzy the writer, & the supporting evidence is strong, that’s a fib as her novel published more than 10
years ago.

Tim and Sally feature on Rick Stein's Cornwall, season 3, episode 2. Not currently on iPlayer but available on U. They are at the cider place and then Sally does a spoken word type thing with the folk band. Their story is described as true, and they describe the situation that led up to the walk, Tim's diagnosis, homelessness, etc.
Sally tastes the cider and says "It's like history in a glass." And it's the most cringy, phoney thing I've ever heard

Sure but you would have to have literary aspirations to think of this quite niche scheme

It’s mentioned several times in TSP that Moth can turn on the charm. (I’m just re-reading it in light of these revelations!)

Redheadedstepchild · 10/07/2025 20:14

The temptation for the media to follow up the French property angle is too great. They can more or less redo the disgruntled Welsh people and the hacked off Cornish people article again because as sure as eggs are oeufs, they will have been a bit cheeky there as well.

And...(allegedly) they owe property tax and all other kinds of things in France as well. Monsieur ou Madame le maire will have a stack of papers waiting for our intrepid journo.

Depending on where exactly their heap of stones in a whole lotta wilderness is, they may also be in trouble for not clearing the underbrush type vegetation on their land in case of forest fires. This is taken even more seriously than not paying taxes sometimes.

In which case is brush clearing mandatory? | Service-Public.fr share.google/ALSAMz1mZk9q618jH

Interesting. I’ve only seen him on The One Show, where else can he been seen on screen?

Hmm - not so sure. If your property in France is uninhabitable then( as far as I understand) it isn't subject to taxe fonciere or taxe d'habitation. Even if they did get sent tax demands, it may well have been the case that the tax wasn't payable. The Observer and Sally Walker seem to agree that the property in France was uninhabitable and that seems backed up by the Google Earth photos.

Mr Armitage's Lament

A man was much mistaken for me
Why that is, I cannot see
For my hair is thick and brown
Not resting on my head like thistledown.

We coincided but did not meet
But all the same, with our sore feet
We trudged the salt path, poet and scoundrel
(If anyone can come up with a rhyme for scoundrel that makes sense please do 😂)

All my own work@Uricon2.

Laska2Meryls · 10/07/2025 20:28

We trudged the salt path - poet and scoundrel

Nothing to see... just a 'found' gull
Eating chips, and our last fudge bar
And 25p pasties, ( ... surely a claim too far?).

(You are welcome Uricon2 ..ill be happy to settle for half the royalties please or an NDA ...)

I'm loving "found gull"

Has anyone already looked up the Land Registry history on their house in Wales to see who put on the charge?

What if it was habitable until you left it to go uninhabitable? Don't you still have to pay something just for it taking up space? Is there land tax?

I think luvvies will be luvvies, and actors will do whatever it takes to promote their 'own' films.

I always remember Hugh Grant doing publicity for his films and saying "Oh we had the best time on set, all the cast and crew were the most wonderful people I've ever met" then he said afterwards it was generally untrue and most people in the business were complete arseholes. He did a film with Sandra Bullock and said for the first time in his life he actually really liked another person in the industry.

Songlines · 10/07/2025 20:33

Although now his version seems rather doubtful

Not sure scoundrel and doubtful really work though!
