Sunbed wars!!

ForMintShaker · 09/07/2025 11:18

On holiday at an all-inclusive style resort , been to different ones over the years but god I am so so over the sunbed wars. I researched for hours when booking and thought I'd booked a decent one without the sunbed problem. Me and partner here with DD (4) and basically have concluded that people are probably leaving towels here at night time for the morning after , it's bloody bonkers.
Current situation is that we came down for breakfast at 9 and managed to grab one bed , which is all we need as someone always in the pool with DD, but a row of chairs in front with adults (over 60s, no kids ) have left towels and positioned a chair blocking anyone on the other rows getting to the pool without walking all of the way around. I moved the chair to get through and then a woman put it back and has now disappeared!!!! Hasn't been back for over an hour
Anyway , petty example I know, but god it doesn't half put a dampner on the holiday itself. We wanted a holiday with mini disco etc and although I know it's possible to pay more and have private pools etc I just wish the hotels could do more. We have told reception but 'nothing we can do' is the response.
Think I might stay at home next year 🤣🤣

I would be tempted to move the chair if nothing on it and no one from group there, put it next to your sunbed and put some bits on it. If anyone asks, do the sickly sweet 'oh no, it wasn't me who moved that chair, it was here all along, isn't that terrible when people move stuff around, when it's here for everyone to use' with a huge smile

GasPanic · 09/07/2025 11:24

This is such a hassle I am surprised hotels/operators have not monetarised it like plane seats.

Mind you then they would face having to turf out people from nicking sunbeds that they hadn't paid for.

AprilShowers25 · 09/07/2025 11:24

I would move the towels and the beds if they had been gone that long. Fold them up in a nice little pile.

AprilShowers25 · 09/07/2025 11:25

Just seen the pic, I would 100% move that chair every time I wanted to go past

Mounjaroversary · 09/07/2025 11:26

I'd just chuck their towels on the ground and sit on them, blame the staff, most hotel staff are happy to remove them too if you ask as most hotels don't advocate saving sunbeds. I've started many a row at a hotel swimming pool which is why I only do villas with private pools now, AI isn't worth it for this very reason.

ThisWayLiesMadness · 09/07/2025 11:27

you need to go to hotels that have allocated sunbeds so much easier😄

Mounjaroversary · 09/07/2025 11:27

P s. Our 4 bed villa is working out cheaper than AI at a hotel, worth checking a few out on air BnB or booking.com.

ForMintShaker · 09/07/2025 11:32

There is stuff on the chair sadly !!! I'm clocking what time they come back and will update you 🤣
Would have loved a villa but really wanted the animation team stuff for DD

I'd shift the chair out the way, stuff or no stuff. There is no one sitting there, just shift it!

SunshineDeLaSoul · 09/07/2025 11:43

Move it right out of the way. Selfish cunts.

JustJoinedRightNow · 09/07/2025 11:44

Agree. Move the chair. They can't just block a walkway even if they're sitting in it!!

Faceonthewrongfoot · 09/07/2025 11:55

I would just make a point of moving it, every time you need to go through.

I do hate the sunbed thing - my biggest bugbear actually is about shade - hotels just don't seem to provide enough umbrellas/shaded areas, so often you have to join people in the stupid getting up early game in order to bagsy any sort of shade - there's nearly always enough actual loungers to go round. And then people sit there all day with umbrellas they don't or barely use. I've seen rows almost break out when someone has gone and taken an unused umbrella and the people have come back and kicked off...

I wish more hotels would allocate loungers, or invest in enough umbrellas to go round...

Whammyyammy · 09/07/2025 11:55

Selfish chavs do this. Go and speak to reception and request they go and view the pool area.

Hodgemollar · 09/07/2025 11:58

I’ve honestly never come across this since childhood holidays in the 90s. I haven’t even seen a sunbed looking like this since then either!
I only ever go to place with nice big padded sunbeds. We just came back from a 2 week holiday and never once struggled to get 4 sun beds together at the front of the pool to watch the kids. No one ever left stuff to claim beds, you never rushed breakfast to get a bed or any nonsense like that.

TheGrimSmile · 09/07/2025 12:31

Just move the chair - cheeky fuckers. Or tell the hotel staff and ask them to do it.

ForMintShaker · 09/07/2025 12:34

They're back now and using the chair to put their stuff on, she's quite intimidating to be honest , I wouldn't be comfortable going over but I will speak to staff if I see someone. It's literally the only way to get to the pool from here unless we walk the whole way around. So selfish !

How far is "the whole way round?"

I hate the losers who get up at 6am to put their towels down, but I really can't see how a chair is ruining your holiday. I would generally walk round rather than through such a narrow space next to sunbathers.

Please share the name of the hotel?

ForMintShaker · 09/07/2025 13:50

@MeowCatPleaseMeowBack it's not ruining the holiday 😊 but it does dampen things

Some have. Last year I was at a place that charged extra for sunbeds on the beach (good for me - I can't go on the beach anyway).

My "best" sunbed experience is a hotel in Tunisia which put every sunbed away at night and there is a chap who comes round and brings your sunbed(s) to you as you arrive in situ. No way of reserving them because if you walk away the sunbed is put away again. Leave you belongings on it and they will be placed in a secure area. The only exception to that is lunchtime hours.

Hothothothothothotlovingit · 09/07/2025 15:11

Throw all their towels in the pool in the middle of the night. I was walking along a path on a beach that people had commandeered in favour of getting sandy on the beach. I just stepped over their stuff spraying sand everywhere. Some kicked off. I just ignored them.

I have never stayed all inclusive even when the kids were young. Always booked independently mostly Paradores and smaller hotels. Never had this problem myself.

My Mum did that when I was a kid - throwing towels in pool at night that is

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/07/2025 15:15

Hotels could solve this if they wanted. They don’t. Tripadvisor review?
