Sunbed wars!!

On holiday at an all-inclusive style resort , been to different ones over the years but god I am so so over the sunbed wars. I researched for hours when booking and thought I'd booked a decent one without the sunbed problem. Me and partner here with DD (4) and basically have concluded that people are probably leaving towels here at night time for the morning after , it's bloody bonkers.
Current situation is that we came down for breakfast at 9 and managed to grab one bed , which is all we need as someone always in the pool with DD, but a row of chairs in front with adults (over 60s, no kids ) have left towels and positioned a chair blocking anyone on the other rows getting to the pool without walking all of the way around. I moved the chair to get through and then a woman put it back and has now disappeared!!!! Hasn't been back for over an hour
Anyway , petty example I know, but god it doesn't half put a dampner on the holiday itself. We wanted a holiday with mini disco etc and although I know it's possible to pay more and have private pools etc I just wish the hotels could do more. We have told reception but 'nothing we can do' is the response.
Think I might stay at home next year 🤣🤣

My petty self would move that chair as far away as possible or out of sight and straight up act shocked when they realize it's gone and then asking were it's gone like "OMG I didn't see anyone take it" 😂

I would just move the chair and place it in front of their sunbed. It's very inconsiderate of them especially as they aren't even using the beds. Disappointing that the hotel won't address the issue to make it equitable for all of their guests.

That space is too small to walk through any way.

I wouldn't want to be lying down there having people walking past showering me with drops of water from the pool and kids running up and down all the time squealing.

The whole sunbed wars thing is very low budget.

Then the CF shouldn't sit there.

I loathe entitlement.

I'd love the name of any hotels that do reserved sunbeds at their pools or beach? It would be worth the extra money to me.

Landmar Los Gigantes Tenerife, if you book a 'landi' room you get reserved sun loungers in the front row of the pool. It's a lovely family friendly hotel. Even if you don't have a landi suite there are still lots of beds available.

They weren't in the swimming pools, they were in little decorative side pools.

It’s still an incredibly grim thing for a hotel to do. I certainly wouldn’t be bragging about it as though it was aspirational. Only a very shit hotel would do that.

Coconutter24 · 15/07/2025 13:34

Do you mean your having to walk around the sunbed with the black and white towel or are you having to walk further?
If there is a full row around the pool with no gap then I’d just cut through where the chair is wether someone is using it or not

This is such a hassle I am surprised hotels/operators have not monetarised it like plane seats.

Mind you then they would face having to turf out people from nicking sunbeds that they hadn't paid for.

I went to USA and they've totally monetised it, and the prices are astronomical especially those in better locations

Yep sunbed hoggers are selfish arseholes. Just back from a holiday with my friends in palma and people were queuing up to put towels on sunbeds from 7am. My friend went for a run one of the mornings and saw them all and drew them a dirty look!

We were there 4 nights and couldn't get sunbeds for first three and on the 4th we managed to get two between 10 of us at about 4pm. We just had to go down to the beach every day and pay for the loungers there. 10 euro per bed for the day but at least it meant we could all sit together and also had shade! Me being the palest at one point had to sit at the cafe bar by myself with my book as the beds three of my friends managed to get at the pool didn't have any parasols.

It's just mad to me. I don't think I'd mind as much if they bloody used them!!!

The good thing about a swim up is you have all the benifits of a hotel but you’re own terrace and space with sunbeds and direct access to the pool. HV Rhodes has a small waterpark and loads of animation and activities (can be a bit full on lol). HV majorca and Ibiza also offer swim ups but these are private pools rather than a main pool which ee prefer

Stupid question. I’ve never picked a swim up as I couldn’t work out how you’d manage room security. Do you just leave a room unlocked while you swim? And can random people just swim into your bit pool? I like the idea but have lots of questions about logistics.

If it’s a private pool then the pools exclusive to the rooms associated with it like in HV Ibiza or Majorca so no one else would swim in it. If it’s into the main pool like Rhodes then yes people theoretically will swim past your room but there’s a jacuzzi step up to the patio and I suppose it’s bad etiquette to use of not yours so no one does. With regards to security it’s the same as a ground floor room. We’d leave unlocked while we’re using but lock it once we left the room. I’ve never heard anyone have any security concerns that’s had one
