In its 50th year. Fraught with filming issues to the extent Steven Spielberg thought he’d shot his burgeoning career to pieces. But… it just fucking works.

If I wanted to I could find fault with a couple of scenes, but ultimately- it’s superb!

The main fault would be that stupid people genuinely thought great whites were the antichrist and killed them en masse. That makes me sad.

Is this the first time you've seen it?

DarkLene · 09/07/2025 03:57

No! I’ve watched it about 20 or more times! Just had another rewatch.

Yes! Watched it recently... that lovely 70's-film pacing! Scheider was lovely in it, and I don't usually like Richard Dreyfus but he was great for this...

It was so huge when I was a kid, and I thought it would inevitably prove to have dated and been a disappointment, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

And Boris Johnson famously thought the mayor who kept the beach open was the hero... 🙈

The music, best 2 notes in music history.

mindyourhead78 · 09/07/2025 05:38

Fantastic film. Think I was about 6/7 when I first watched it. I drew pictures and wrote letters to all my friends warning them not to go to San Francisco because of all the great whites that could eat you. Never gave the letters out, but guess my parents thought it would occupy me of an evening lol

Didimum · 09/07/2025 06:35

It’s great. Agree that it unnecessarily villainised sharks for decades though.

JMSA · 09/07/2025 06:38

Love it. Weirdly, it made me long for a life by the sea!

MinnieBaldock · 09/07/2025 06:40

I took my brother to see it when it first came out he was only about 14. We both loved it. My DHs favourite film we watch it every couple of months. The sequal was OK but the rest were rubbish. The book is good , the characters are quite different in it.

stayathomer · 09/07/2025 06:41

Haven’t seen it since the 80s, must give it a go!

TranceNation · 09/07/2025 06:45

One of the all time greatest films. I love how you don't actually see the shark until much later in the film when they are in the boat out at school.

Fangisnotacoward · 09/07/2025 06:47

It's still an amazing film, scared the hell.out of me as a kid. And so quotable.

You’re gonna need a bigger boat!

TheChosenTwo · 09/07/2025 06:52

It’s my favourite film!
Jaws 2 was on last night, that one is okay but the first is the best. Jaws 3 was frankly embarrassing.

KPPlumbing · 09/07/2025 06:54

Yep. It's in my top 3 of all time. It's so suspenseful, I love it. I could watch it every week!

SisforSusanna · 09/07/2025 06:55

I have been terrified of swimming in the sea since I watched it as a child. I always hear that music….

I found a lot of the teenagers cast in Jaws 2 annoying. I'm sort of glad some of them got munched by the shark.

Chasingsquirrels · 09/07/2025 07:27

I cried when the shark bit the electric cable and died in Jaws 2. I would have been 6.

SparklyBrickViper · 09/07/2025 07:27

Hard agree. Great film.

Rainbow321 · 09/07/2025 07:31

I can remember when I first went on holiday after watching it ( can't remember the year , but was a kid ) I hardly went in the sea , and definitely not even up to my knees !

Maaate · 09/07/2025 07:34

"Smile you son of a bitch"

Such a great ending

Jaws 4 blows 3 out of the water on the terrible front.

Still not sure if it's in a "so bad it's good" way

Enigma53 · 09/07/2025 07:36

It’s amazing!! I love Brody, particularly when he’s just about to blow up the shark at the end.

” Come on, thatta boy, open wide, say Arghhhhh… BANG!

Classic !!!

'That's some bad hat, Harry'. Smile
