I'm not surprised this was such a big hit among the middle class wellness, crystal gazing, vegan, sexual healing, weaving your own yoghurt brigade.

You've just described Neil from The young Ones! Shows age.

AldoGordo · 06/07/2025 22:08

I'll just leave this here for the benefit of those sleuthing into their marriage...

Timothy Ronald Walker married Sally Ann Winn in 1986, Portree

I have several health conditions. I take pills. I recommend everyone do the same.

Joke.
Jeez chill out.

They could have married abroad, in which case it wouldn't show - it was beginning to get popular to marry abroad in the late 1980s

Does anyone know how to query French marriage records???

Raynor is, as Gillian called it, quite guarded in the interviews that I have read today. Not much detail about her past - she met Moth at college, moved to Wales 12 years later with two tiny children is about all I have found out.

Hopefully the publicity coming now will bring out people who knew her at all stages of her life and we will get a fuller picture. I think it will be interesting.

MikeRafone · 06/07/2025 22:11

Fandango52 · 06/07/2025 21:57

That does make sense, but why is every reference about them being ‘husband and wife’ rather than just being partners? I know some people refer to their partner as being their husband/wife even when they’re not actually married, but just seems a bit strange that journalists would also repeat that rather than being more precise.

Then the children when registered on GRO would have both surnames placed rather than just one surname and mothers maiden name

outofofficeagain · 06/07/2025 21:47

Then Gillian Anderson can play both parts.

I'd watch that!

Yes this fits with what she wrote in her second book.

caramac04 · 06/07/2025 22:12

I feel a right mug as I loved the book and was totally taken on by it although I did wonder how poor Moth was coping with the living conditions given his illness. Well now I know.
If it had been fiction I would have still enjoyed it but it was sold as a true story so now I feel lied to.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 06/07/2025 22:12

I guess this is the end of the Oscar nomination. The actors must be feeling very disappointed.

AWanderingFool · 06/07/2025 22:13

From the BBC article:

Mr Winn was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) while walking the South West Coastal Path in 2013.

That sounds completely bizarre!

And what on earth was running the London Marathon about??? How could someone with CBD for 18 years do that?

Just to pick up on a couple of the points recently discussed:

The second book talks a lot about her childhood.

They eloped to Scotland (Skye, if I remember correctly).

If it's true, of course.

Seems you are right! (Hope you didn’t buy the book? Any other ‘facts’ of use in it?)

I expect they had a hole in their shoe after walking all that way.

(shows age too).

London Marathon anyone? There are also photos of them with medals

Edited

“They then have two days' rest before taking part in the London Marathon.” This bit seems absolutely bonkers - especially given their age, the fact they aren’t professional athletes and his CBD. I can’t believe this bit. I’m honestly really struggling to believe it.

So not England and Wales records then - but Scottish over the boarder!

MikeRafone · 06/07/2025 22:19

they've lead a lot of people up the bleeding path - thats for sure

Maybe Sally and Tim Walker should get the Oscar nominations instead Grin

Re London Marathon 2024, the son ran it, and writes on his Facebook page that his mum stuck by his side for the entire race. "And finally to my amazing Father who physically broke out of hospital and managed to drag himself to that 25 mile marker to support us on down the final stretch and cheer so loudly his voice could be heard 200meters away over the sounds of hundreds of people, you will forever be my hero."
