I thought Kemi looked concerned, she did not draw attention to Reeves at all - and she could have done very easily.

She (or her spokesperson) has tried to capitalise on it since though.

Yeah, whatever. You seem to be triggered. Like I say, pay attention.

Ohhhh so mysterious and low key threatening - oh you’ll see - you’ll ALL see mwwaaaahahaha

like a Scooby Doo villain - watch out for us meddling kids 😂

Explain how that works with an all-women shortlist?

Angela Raynor and Rachel Reeves both benefitted from all-women shortlists.

Guavafish1 · 02/07/2025 15:26

REFORM win be next in government… yikes!

WiganWheel · 02/07/2025 15:27

@AnotherBrickIn you’re deluded. Starmer doesn’t need to go anywhere.

Shambles123 · 02/07/2025 15:27

The reason that she should keep it together in her job and why it is important to us all that the chancellor can do that is demonstrated nicely by the fall in UK bonds reported by the FT this afternoon.

Muffsies · 02/07/2025 15:27

In the past we've had ministers swear at each other in the commons, make unfounded accusations, they've had tantrums (including criminal damage) in the commons, they've blatantly lied to us in the commons (Boris), and we've even had an entitled prick falling asleep in the commons.

Frankly, a few tears is hardly the worst thing I've seen happening in the commons - and she's not the first and won't be the last who does it either.

I'm going to guess you've never been there because you really have no idea.

You think you'd regain your composure within a fee days of the diagnosis and them never feel it again at any point during 3 years of treatment. That you wouldn't have days when you thought you were OK in rhe morning,or that going to work and keeping busy would do you good, but it turned out you couldn't hold it together?

And even if that is how you'd be, you can't see that others would experience it differently?

I wouldn’t be able to work in my profession, that’s just a fact. It would be a matter of resignation, if I was not able to compartmentalise, and I would gladly resign in the circumstances, because I would not put others at risk.

CruCru · 02/07/2025 15:28

northernballer · 02/07/2025 13:09

Presumably she didn't come up with these policies and announce them all on her own - the Cabinet must have backed them.

Nothing worse than a boss who throws his reports under the bus, I've lost respect for the lot of them tbh and I say that as a traditional Labour voter.

I was going to say something like this. Boris was, in many ways, an interesting boss but he was also a shit who would blame others for his crap. Starmer is no different - and possibly less interesting to work for.

MargoLivebetter · 02/07/2025 15:28

@Soulfulunfurling did you miss the bit where Kemi Badenoch turns to the Chancellor and says
"but she looks absolutely miserable. They can point as much as they like, but the fact is that Labour MPs are going on the record saying that the Chancellor is toast. The reality is that she is a human shield for the Prime Minister’s incompetence. In January, he said that she would be in post until the next election. Will she really?"

They shortlist women because they are underrepresented and it balances the party so it represents society - they don’t pick random women of the street and say pssst do you want to stand for parliament - they select from party members nominated by their constituency party

Bozo and Trump have had a terrible effect on politics. Its OK for them to make promises they can't keep, their fans will accept it as part of their 'charm'. Not ok for your bog standard politician, who will be made to eat his or her words as soon as an opportunity arises.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real, what has this got to do with Trump 😂 😆

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 15:30

justasking111 · 02/07/2025 15:13

Starmer told her team to cut PIP her team did so. Raynor NVQs orchestrated a rebellion, Starmer folded, Reeves team suffered.

Can none of you see that a dumb redhead puppet of the unions is being used to control the Labour party.

Raynor NVQs for prime minister. Does anyone think that's an improvement?

If you are going to call Rayner dumb, at least spell her name right.

Brefugee · 02/07/2025 15:30

Why is someone crying shown to be out of her depth? She might be pre menstrual/going through menopause!

well i had to pretend that i was ok during those times and get on with my job.

When my father died (not saying this is what happened with RR) i immediately excused myself and took time away from the workplace. When i got back and occasionally got a bit teary, i took myself off to the ladies. The only way to release the patriarchal stranglehold on... well, everything, is to get in there, get high up and change it. And until then? We have to plaster on a grin/grimace and get on with it. Notwithstanding the times (see above) when that's not possible.

Kipperandarthur · 02/07/2025 15:30

I'm afraid she is out of her depth.

She has made some atrocious decisions regarding increases in NI for employers etc etc which is stifling business growth and the economy is flatlining.
There is no growth or confidence in the economy and businesses and business leaders are exasperated at her ineptitude.

She has made bad decisions and has hardly any wriggle room in her financial figures.

This has now been compounded with the rebels within the party demanding KS water down his planned (and badly communicated) revisions to the welfare bill.

RR now has more of a headache to try and balance the books.
The books are a mess and are now even more of a mess.

Both RR and KS are now in weakened positions and both of them know this.

Kemi did not capitalise directly by saying Starmer’s own cabinet are having breakdowns behind him - as she was entitled to do. She indirectly reminded others that this shit show is the PM’s creation and HE should be taking responsibility for it. I think KS should resign immediately.

Slow clap for Raynor she is playing an absolute blinder here. The party is in chaos.

Do you think he’s doing well?

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 15:32

OrrAppleCheeks · 02/07/2025 15:26

I don’t understand. Which part of the changes would make that happen?

For over a year they have been saying they are making cuts to pip then At the beginning of this government for several months they where saying if you lose pip you will lose lcwra. The changes now make no difference to me at all if they actually stick to them but their has been a lot of stress over the last year of not knowing then flip flopping on what they are actually doing. You have no idea of how vulnerable you are when you are completely reliant on benefits through no fault of your own and people start talking about taking them away and leaving you with nothing its scary.

Sidebeforeself · 02/07/2025 15:32

I’ll through my two p in cos Ive nothing better to do..

The welfare proposals were absolutely about saving money ,as were the winter fuel cuts, rather than a well researched policy strategy. I believe this is fuelled (pardon the pun) by Labours desperate need to show quick results. It’s backfiring and because they have so many new ,inexperienced MPs they are getting called out by their own troops.

That being said, it’s not purely Rachel Reeves own making. She - and her departments of civil servants, economists, analysts etc - will have been working up the numbers in conjunction and in direct opposition to the Ministers of all Gov Departments . So no one gets to be blame free here in my opinion.

I have very little time for Liz Kendall and if there are too be any casualties here, I think it should be her.

However, it’s awful seeing anyone in genuine distress. We dont know whats gone on but I can till have compassion even if I hate someone’s politics.

MyNameIsX · 02/07/2025 15:17

When Labour royally roger us tax-payers over in October, are we permitted to blub?

Asking for a friend….

I blubbed a couple of weeks ago after I got made redundant, thanks to RR’s NI rises. I did wait until after my boss delivered the news via Teams tbf 😊

JSMill · 02/07/2025 15:32

I can’t even understand why she’s the villain in this particular mess. She wasn’t responsible for the welfare bill and she wasn’t responsible for making sure the backbenchers supported the government. Starmer is an arrogant leader and treats his backbenchers as lobby fodder.
However I think she is a poor chancellor and overestimates her ability. On the other hand, I can understand being so overwhelmed you end up in tears and I hate those misogynistic bastards being gleeful at the sight of her being upset.

What women, women benefitted from something, "ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah" I am trying to catch my breath... Perhaps email Farage about it.

Serpentstooth · 02/07/2025 15:33

Quite right shambles. Imagine market reaction if she'd been inexplicably absent. Sometimes, every choice is the wrong choice.
