Still vote Labour?

After one year of Labour rule, if you could go back in time and vote again, would you still vote the same.

i voted Tory, and still would, although I also thought change was good, and I was genuinely excited to get a breath of fresh air in number 10, I had quite high hopes.

im now depressed that we are very probably going to get Reform in 4 years.

would you vote differently?

Honestly, right now i'm leaning to no, i'll likely moved to lib dem given the choice.

This raid on the sick and poor is not Labour, and i'm disgusted that they've even tried it before raiding the rich who have more money than sense.

However, i'm a political voter, and if a vote for labour will keep Reform out, then i will vote for however is more likely to keep Reform out.

I hate Farage and everything he and his party of nazi sympathisers and misogynists stand for, and hell will freeze over before i cross any box with their name on.

I have never hated anything in my life quite so much as I hate this evil thieving bastard Labour government and the entire flawed ideology.

There are a LOT of reasons not to want a Reform government but I'll gladly vote for them and live with the consequences if that's what it takes to get rid of this bunch of c_nts.

Exactly the same

Wolmando · 02/07/2025 10:26

I would not vote for them, never would, I'm voting Reform next time though

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 02/07/2025 10:27

What is it with all the anti Labour threads this morning - that's two already and I've practically only just logged on 😬

KimberleyClark · 02/07/2025 10:27

Yes I voted Labour and will do so again.

Probably fresh in the mind with the debacle yesterday

RobinStrike · 02/07/2025 10:29

I would still vote Labour. They haven’t been the best at promoting policies, explaining what their aims are and how they will achieve them, and they’ve really struggled with finances. But they inherited a desperate situation and they are battling a mostly right wing legacy media that doesn’t explain the problems and relishes in the difficulties. They are sandwiched between that and the strong left wing of the party that expects them to spend continuously -on important stuff admittedly- but they don’t have the money for it.
this article is interesting. Small steps, but in the right direction. Expectations are too high.
After a year of Labour, is life in Britain really becoming worse?

About 59 per cent of us believe the country is going in the wrong direction — but figures on employment, the NHS and knife crime suggest otherwise

I’ve never voted labour and never will . They’ve always proved themselves incompetent.

I agree. Every single time. I haven't forgotten the winter of discontent.

Mn threads are out of step with this.

Is it because we are coming to their first year anniversary and everyone is wondering what the fuck they have done apart from make things worse?

ExtraOnions · 02/07/2025 10:36

100% I would.

For people who say Labour are incompetent with finances, let’s not forget how we got into the mess we are in.

If we got a Reform government, the welfare state would be completly dismantled.. they are very open about what they want, you look after yourself and not anyone else. I’ll survive a Reform government, no mortgage, no debt, money in the bank etc.. but plenty wouldn’t.

Public expenditure has to be cut, and governments need to make tough decisions. We also need to move away from short-termism, the economy in this country will take 10 years to fix .. not 10 months.

Could it possibly be because of last night’s debacle?

Hear, hear.

Farage has done a real number on millions with his “man of the people” act.

100% would

1dayatatime · 02/07/2025 10:59

To be fair as a PM I don't think that Starmer is doing a bad job but he and Rachel Reeves now find themselves in an impossible financial position after yesterday's climb downs.

The 9 billion head room in n the budget has gone after the winter fuel and incapacity benefits u turns. The economy is under performing in part due to the higher taxes of the last budget.

She can't increase debt further as the bond markets are already very nervous about the UK debt levels and she would risk triggering a "Liz Truss" meltdown.

She can't increase taxation further because aside from a promise to not increase income tax, VAT and NI any increase in taxation will further slow the economy making the situation worse.

The only option is to cut Government spending somewhere else but after yesterday's rebellion and a promise to increase defence spending this is going to be politically incredibly difficult and electorally unpopular.

Would the Conservatives do a better job - no and probably about the same.

Would Reform do a better job - definitely not - their spending plans based on increased debt would implode the economy way worse than Liz Truss managed.

Same for the LibDems although other than not being Labour or the Tories and ranting against Trump I'm not entirely sure what their policies even are?

My bet is that Reeves will have to increase taxation again somewhere leading to a continued slow economic decline.

RobinStrike · 02/07/2025 11:12

@1dayatatime completely agree with all of this. They shouldn’t have promised to keep the 1p income tax cut from the previous govt. But then, maybe they wouldn’t have been elected. It really has left them with a real financial problem. They are really poor at timing of cuts and explaining what they are doing and why. They also seem very poor at communicating with their backbench MPs. So many seem to think it doesn’t matter that the cut in welfare didn’t go through. It’s their constituents that will have to pay for this shortfall one way or another.

ACynicalDad · 02/07/2025 11:16

Post Covid Rishi had the economy going well, he needed a clear out of MPs but sad that we had to take this car crash to get it. Four more years of economic decline then probably Reform who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Labour are the only main party I haven't voted for, (well not Reform either, but not sure if they are main yet, but probably will be one day) and I doubt I'll ever vote Labour, their metropolitan elite and their working class sections need to be split, they are just a near impossible combination to manage.

I think the rebels are just loving the power of stopping everything in its tracks, probably not reflecting on the long term consequences for the Labour Party

Just look how the split has affected the Tories though with Reform.

I think Labour would rather perfect the "everyone keeps quiet before the election then rows after it" technique.

And he was the one who said Brexit would mean more money for the NHS. People seem to have forgotten that.

SarfLondonLad · 02/07/2025 11:26

Wouldn't change my vote at all. I voted to get the Tories out and I will still vote to keep them out.

LarkspurLane · 02/07/2025 11:34

It doesn't really matter how many of these threads are started, it's not going to change things.
There's a lot of support for Labour, they'll see out their term and hopefully make a difference.
I don't think Reform will be around in 3 years, Nigel gets bored quite quickly.

Oh yeah, where's that hiding then? Because it's not reflected in voting intentions or favourability ratings, it cannot be seen in a coherent and settled governing party? Is it Mumsnet?
