I’m probably being a prude but…

…what is the deal with teenage girls running around basically naked these days?

Last week, I was driving down the road near a secondary school at letting out time and I must have seen about 5 girls’ actual bum cheeks as they were leaving school. Like, we all rolled our skirts up fairly short at school, but this was actually full knickers and bums on display… one girl was wearing a thong so it was just her whole bum on show.

Then, I was on the beach today (we live near the sea) with my two primary school aged sons and there were a group of maybe 13-14 year old girls, they were very young, more than half of whom were in thong bikinis. They spent most of the time on the beach doing a photoshoot, predominantly photos of them from behind looking out to sea, presumably for social media?!

I know teenagers have always been teenagers, but I’m pretty sure underage girls weren’t wearing thong bikinis on the beach when I was that age 😳

I could see other families on the beach felt uncomfortable with it too.

Do their parents know? Is this just how teenagers dress these days?

I have seen a few young women wearing very short skirts or shorts but not actual arse cheeks.

I guess at the beach anything goes really bar full nudity.

I wish I had the confidence to wear things like that when I was young.

Where has this thread referenced showing bum cheeks in school?

But there has been a lot of victim blaming throughout the thread.

It's not victim blaming. Obviously the fault always lies with the perpetrator, but the consequences generally lie with the victim & they're the ones whose lives are ruined.

Imagine if a 13 year girl goes into school in an incredible short skirt and some teenage boys takes a picture of her backside and sends it to all his mates. They're laughing at her, telling her they're getting off on her photo, telling her they're going to post it online etc. Or telling her she's hideous, she's fat and hairy etc.

Either way, the girl's confidence and happiness will take a massive hit. Of course it's not her fault and the boys are the ones who should be punished, but how will that make her feel better?

It’s literally in the OP “….I must have seen about 5 girls’ actual bum cheeks as they were leaving school.….” Plus several others have commented the same.

Leaving school, not in school. Well behaved girls do lots of things leaving school that they do not do in school. We used to buy soft drinks when leaving school but not in school.

You may well have some valid points, not helped by deviating from the facts.

If they are leaving school then the skirts were short enough in school to show bum cheeks. They weren’t outside of school or leaving the shop on the way home after buying soft drinks. Despite this, your point is a bit silly anyway as plenty of people, including teachers, have commented on this and other similar threads about bum cheeks being exposed in school.

This is a really disturbing post.

In your weird opinion. Plenty of people agree with me.

wheresmymojo · 30/06/2025 17:37

I went to the IoW Festival last weekend and saw more arse cheeks than in my entire life to date (and I’m 43 and very much not a prude).

So if you must use the overused word “literally”, they were literally leaving school not in school.

The fact remains lots of teens have acted in similar ways, myself included (and l’m in my 40s), it’s a first world non problem when compared with real misogyny and discrimination throughout the world. Examples, forced marriage, FGM, trafficking, child prostitution, persecution of lesbians to name a few. A hint of bum cheek is not worth fussing over. Even with apparent lack of male self control.

Again, just because there are women in the world who are oppressed, abused, marginalised etc does not mean we shouldn’t care if our children are exposing their bum cheeks in school. It’s a pretty poor argument to say “well you’re not a victim of trafficking so set yourself away exposing your arse in school”. It’s not that black and white.

Last comment from me, as you would say literally.

My post (of which I have received thanks) so is black and white. And again you are distorting the facts. Lots of girls do things on leaving school that they do not do in school. I’m sure you did too, even if you didn’t do the hoisted skirt thing. I was UK born but schooled in France, but school in the west is school.

Likewise, nobody is saying “set yourself away exposing your arse in school”, but what some of us are saying here is that there are bigger issues to be concerned about that a hint of bum cheek when it comes to education and support of girls in a male dominated and many would argue screwed up world.

Not that long ago people were saying the same thing about the Mary Quant and the mini skirt, the Spice Girls. Further back in history the exposed breast was highly fashionable in the Palace of Versailles. Although ankles were totally taboo. Life goes on.

You seem to have some weird obsession with the fact I used the word ‘literally’ once.

I’m not distorting any facts. You claimed that no one mentioned exposing bum cheeks in school and I pointed out that many have but you seem to keep ignoring that as, according to your logic, we shouldn’t worry ourselves with such 1st world problems as we should be grateful we don’t have FGM or be forced to wear a niqab etc. I, like many others, can see that argument is ludicrous.

The problem is that nowadays everyone has a smartphone. If a bunch of teenage girls start flashing passersby, someone will take a video and upload it onto the internet where it will stay forever.

And considering the ever-expanding use of facial recognition, their identities could be leaked, putting them at risk.

I'm so glad I grew up before smartphones.

You flashed your tits as a kid at men and are now thankful it wasnt on camera. What a confession! Why did you take your bra off in the streets for men?

BruFord · 30/06/2025 19:40

@Fetaface Tbh schools constantly warn teenagers about this now- both of mine have had lectures about how everything they do can be recorded by anyone and posted online - and it’ll be publicly available forever. They have no control over this.

So it is something they have to consider that we oldies didn’t have to worry about. Some of my 14-year-old antics were pretty daft, but only witnessed by a handful of people who were equally daft. 😂

Men do it regularly where i live as they pull down their trousers to show their boxers and i can’t count the amount of times i have seen men’s bare arses just walking around here.

It looks silly.

Some women probably enjoyed it too l suspect.

I was an older teen, a group of us did it to passing tourist boats for a giggle. In the summer months more specific acts could be viewed from boats passing the islands. This is Paris we are talking about. City of love and light.

We just pulled our tops up overlooking the river as boats passed, and the lights from the passing boats made it a flash in more ways than one 😀. Neither us, nor the tourists with their canned boat commentary were harmed. The police saw us on occasion and laughed. It was a different world, plus the female breast is the symbol of France. Meanwhile in the UK bare breasts were used to sell cars and so called newspapers. Double standards all the way.

That said, l was not ashamed of my breasts then and l’m still not, l’ve modelled for art classes, Mum (now deceased), sister and l all went topless on French beaches together. Sister and l still do where appropriate.

Yes telling kids not to break the law is wise.

@Fetaface Not the kids recording, other people recording and/or taking photos of them. We're in the US, photographing or filming minors in public is legal. Perhaps it's different in the UK.

KimberleyClark · 30/06/2025 21:33

Was watching Emma Raducanu and Mimi Xu earlier. Both looked fabulous, so professional and not an arse cheek on display anywhere. There really is no need for it.

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 30/06/2025 21:34

Allseeingallknowing · 30/06/2025 15:31

Exactly. It’s rubbish about people saying young girls are confused. It’s one thing young girls rebelling against authority, quite another to deliberately display their genitalia! These girls know the difference

Arses are not genitalia

LondonFox · 30/06/2025 21:35

Jigaliga · 30/06/2025 13:10

Maaaaybe we need to work harder to explain to girls that "being a woman" doesn't mean walking around with your arse out. Boys seem to manage to grasp it.

Are you refering to boys as men and people most likely to spam you with pictures of their genitals as a way of flirting?
