To say this weather is causing me to become depressed

I know it sounds like I’m some sort of misery reveller, after all long hot days are supposed to be what we all love, but I’m really, genuinely struggling.

I haven’t slept well for weeks due to the heat and neither have the children. Late nights and early wake ups. Stuffy bedrooms even with fans circulating,

During the day it’s so hot. When in work I feel like I’m slowly melting in stuffy classrooms with kids whining endlessly about water bottles and crackling ice. On my days off (I’m part time) it’s often overwhelming, especially in the middle of the day. Constantly worrying about the children burning - one insisted on standing outside yesterday just for the hell of it with no hat or sun cream and had to be dragged in forcefully. Everyone’s just irritable with one another, the car is like an oven when you get in it, flies, fucking FLIES.

And there’s this low level pressure to be out enjoying it. One of our soft play centres has actually put out an appeal just begging people to attend because the hot weather means it’s been empty for weeks.

I want autumn now. I want coolness and leaves turning and rain.

I think some humans are cold humans and some are warm humans. We can't escape our type.

I am a cold human. I hate the heat, it makes me feel lethargic, my mood is low and I feel generally miserable. I feel like I can't get enough oxygen. It's a physical reaction that is truly unpleasant.

My DH is a warm human. He hates short days and loathes icy weather. He becomes grumpy and irritable (bear with a sore arse) during winter.

The best advice I can give is be prepared to invest in making life more comfortable.

We have aircon for the summer and a fireplace for winter. We sold our car and figure the cost and environmental saving gives us leeway.

I have a wardrobe of cool summer shifts and moisture wicking tees/shirts.
DH has the best winter coat he can afford.

My long winded point is that you can make life bearable with a modest outlay, it just costs a bit.

@estrogone my Granny had a theory that you like the weather how it was when you were born - true for me as a sun seeker born in the 1970’s heatwave. Years!

I'm with you, my work in a hospital is unbearable - horrible uniform and minimal access to water.
Then my dd isn't sleeping, so I'm tired and grumpy and she is tired and living her terrible 2s to the extreme.
Feels relentless, keep telling myself it won't be as bad when she is older.

I am guessing you are in the rather hot south where the medical profession is geared towards a risk to life on account of the heat rather than somewhere else in the uk

but hey - let’s enjoy the damaging heat shall we ?

they estimated 600 excess deaths occurred a few weeks ago, and I guess the same over the next few days

we do get excess deaths in cold spells - but the difference is that after the cold spell the death rate drops as the people who die in the cold often didn’t have long to live anyway. Deaths due to heat however add to the years death rate - these would not have happened

yes cold and wet isn’t fun but that doesn’t mean we have to say excess heat is fun or better - objectively it’s worse

I like to think of it as just The Weather. Nobody promised the humans temperate comfort in all places at all times forever.

Move to south wales, the weathers shite here!

Absolute rubbish. It's hideous beyond in Monmouthshire and has been for days. It's currently 28 degrees and unbearable.

She might have had something there. Just checked back to when I was born at the start of the1960s.

34 degrees.

I’m not a sun seeker but I have no problems with very warm weather. Love it!

Definitely holds true for me - I was born in January and can’t bear the heat!

Nobody promised us nice weather but we really shouldn’t have fucked with it the way we have for the last 40 years ( when we knew we had a problem )

@greencartbluecart

most people are just living their lives not fucking about with the weather. I don’t feel guilty 🤷‍♀️

Another one with no comprehension skills!!!! I did not say people like your child have to get a grip, I was talking about the average MNer who can't seem to cope with temperatures over 25 degrees or anything else for that matter

Why do so many posters take everything as if it is aimed solely at them?

I merely asked about the excess deaths because I have never heard anything about excess deaths in summer where I live so I was just curious. OK?

nothing wrong with my comprehension thanks.
you posted in a snarky way ( obviously having a pop at those woosie brits thinking it is hot. ) You then implied that excess deaths were a figment of the medical professionals and asked what kind of people die of excess heat. I replied in kind and gave you a clear example and now myself and other people have been irked by your tone you claim you were only ever intrigued .
It may be the hottest place on earth where you live for all know and perhaps no one succumbs in your country but that doesn't mean it is the same everywhere.
