To think Palestine Action isn't a terrorist group?

I don't agree with what they've done (breaking into military bases to vandalise planes), but I don't understand why they're being proscribed. Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have caused far more damage to property and general annoyance.

Arrest and prosecute the people who commit criminal acts, absolutely, but this is setting the bar for branding protestors "terrorists" far too low.

Thanks . Moderate damage to properly is not included in the definition and I hope it never is. These guys are a protest group.

Grounding a military jet and causing £millions of damage is not moderate.

Unless you are prepared to stump up the repair fees?

PickyBits · 23/06/2025 17:49

If they are now a proscribed terrorist group is it even legal to defend/support them?

bombastix · 23/06/2025 17:52

For the sake of argument, had Palestinian Action stuck to street chants, obstructing public highways and carrying signs there is no way you could classify them as terrorists.

If numbers of PA express support for Hamas, break into military installations and destroy military equipment then they’ve given the Home Office a good reason to classify them as terrorists.

It needs to go through parliament. Next week apparently.

Then MN can start deleting posts professing support for them in the same way that they do for the posters who support Hamas.

I posted this not much further up, but do read it, the reason for wanting to add them to the proscribed list is not just the recent incident of damage to planes. I don't think debating if that was "moderate" or "serious" damage is the main concern.

Serpentstooth · 23/06/2025 17:57

No, not terrorists but they've embarassed the government at a time when all services should be on high alert, and now they're going to pay. They've effectively strolled into Brize Norton airbase, that's a disgrace and should never be possible. The government should be thanking them for illustrating this slack approach to security and thanking the Almighty that they're not terrorists but just protesters.

It’s property and money, not human lives, which the jets if launched would have destroyed .

They are not yet a proscribed terrorist organisation the government is still in the process of doing so and it should be done by next week according to Yevett Cooper.
However when they are yes it will be a crime to be a member or support or defend them

Do you think the planes were bombers?

amylou8 · 23/06/2025 18:04

They crossed the line with the planes I'm afraid. I'm not for banning stuff, but millions of pounds of military equipment is terrorism.

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:04

Ddakji · 23/06/2025 18:00

I think we should be very careful how we use them.

I thought they were, am I mistaken?

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2025 07:36

Breaking into a military base and vandalising military equipment is a step far beyond gluing yourself to the road.

It's like assaulting a police officer, it has to be taken more seriously.

Yep I ageee with this. I strongly support their right to protest and would support them basically anywhere that isn’t risking national security at a fucking military base when we’re on the bring of world war 3 in the world!!

they could easily have done something really impactful not at a military base it’s just plain thick or yea… act of national sabotage that deserves to be prohibited more seriously

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2025 18:07

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:05

You are mistaken, they were not bombers. They were cargo planes.

Ddakji · 23/06/2025 18:09

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:04

I think we should be very careful how we use them.

Of course. How do you think they’re going to be used?

Do you think this group were careful in what they did to our defences?

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 17:58

They are refuelling plains basically flying petrol stations not bombers or fighter jets and more to the point WE ARE NOT BOMBING ANYONE

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2025 18:07

Thanks for clarifying. Then it was an expensive bit of criminal damage.

Hoardasurass · 23/06/2025 18:11

We are getting more and more complicit in bombing people.

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2025 18:13

It's bizarre how some people seem to be of the impression that this soon-to-be terrorist group heroically grounded some bombers that were off to bomb Gaza when actually they grounded some cargo planes that weren't going to bomb anyone, and the UK isn't bombing Gaza.

Where are they getting this idea from?

Ddakji · 23/06/2025 18:14

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:12

I’m not sure why you are downplaying an attack on our military defences. You seem to think this is comparable with, I don’t know, graffiting a building society. Or lobbing a brick through a chemist’s window.

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2025 18:14

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:12

Thanks for clarifying. Then it was an expensive bit of criminal damage.

Well no, it was an attack on the UK military's ability to keep the country safe at a time of increased global tensions.

And guess who will be footing the bill for it?

Ddakji · 23/06/2025 18:14

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:13

How so?

DonutRings · 23/06/2025 18:15

SidekickSylvia · 23/06/2025 07:37

I would think that those in the position to make the decision have more information than we do.

And that's how people sleep walk into fascism.

Hoardasurass · 23/06/2025 18:18

ZanyLou · 23/06/2025 18:13

Which people do you think we are becoming complicit in bombing? And how are we doing so?
