Trump - "I want to thank God in particular. We love you God" in his address to the nation about bombing Iran

"Tomorrow, General Caine, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will have a press conference at 8 a.m. at the Pentagon. And I want to just thank everybody. And, in particular, God. I want to just say, we love you, God, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East. God bless Israel and God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you. "

That seems a bit OTT for a Presidential address. I get they say "God bless America". I thought that there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State in the USA.

It just sounded unusual.

He's nuts.

He’s a complete spanner

The man is a lunatic and utter garbage. Everything he says is for a reaction. It works.

I dont even feel anything anymore

They're all batshit

If there was a spectrum from Jesus to ‘totally and completely the opposite’, Trump would be the other end. Venal, hate-filled, money-grubbing, sexually abusive, repulsive arsehole.

I’m not a Christian but Jesus was definitely my kind of bloke. Trump wouldn't think a Christian thought if his life depended on it.

Apparently Huckabee sent him a text saying God had spared him for this moment

https://www.jpost.com/international/article-858071

In the message to Trump, Huckabee described the president as “the most consequential President in a century – maybe ever” and asserted that “only ONE voice matters. HIS voice.” He wrote, “God spared you in Butler, PA... You did not seek this moment. This moment sought YOU!

Huckabee went on to note the weight of Trump’s responsibilities, writing, “The decisions on your shoulders I would not want to be made by anyone else. You have many voices speaking to you, Sir, but there is only ONE voice that matters. HIS voice.” He added, “No president in my lifetime has been in a position like yours. Not since Truman in 1945.”

He sounded about 8 years old when he said "we love you God"

Lavender14 · 22/06/2025 21:21

As a Christian it absolutely turns me when he utilises religion to gain "credibility" when most of his actions are pretty anti-Christian.

Pedallleur · 22/06/2025 21:27

A lot of his supporters are God fearing folk so thanking God is an absolute vote winner.

This is only because lots of his supporters are pretty pissed off with him because he campaigned on a promise of America first and to spend the money at home.

Each bomb cost 20 million
The planes cost over 2 billion

So he's invoking God to bring them back round

Barney16 · 22/06/2025 21:34

Nothing he does is Christian. When he gets to the pearly gates he won't be let in.

IsawwhatIsaw · 22/06/2025 21:35

These are frightening times. The language he uses, the way he speaks. It all sounds so infantile. And surrounding himself with Yes men - Groupthink again.

if we use the old testerment as a basis, then its only humans again rewriting religion that makes it seem what trump did was or is ant christian,.

if the bible is ment to be gods words etc then it should be the old testerment etc then id say trump is fairly tame vs what the bibles say etc

screwyou · 22/06/2025 21:36

And to think 77.3 million Americans voted for him, one of the largest vote totals ever, this is what America looks like. You can only feel sorry for the poor folk who didn't vote for him.

Edited

well then it shows people need to study and choose their leaders better rather than relying on mass media to choose

Trump is an idiot, but Jesus was an extremist, thats why he came a cropper. Im not sure why people keep making out Jesus was some sort of hippy dippy.

Although probably not money grubbing and sexually abusive, so he is one up on Trump there.

Exactly, the original testaments are full out war, slavery, rape, killing. You name it.

Trump is very christian in that way.

I thought that there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State in the USA.
Supposedly, yes. In practice, their banknotes have "in God we trust" and added "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance when they amended the law in 1954.

American politicians have rabbitted on about how much they believe in God for a few generations now. It's an attempt to suck up to the "Christian right". Which is ironic because I've never seen a group of people less Christian than that lot - Jesus used to teach kindness to others, and helping the less fortunate ("I'm not having my tax dollars spent on them there 'poors', they need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps...").

Trump in particular seems to be on a mission to break as many of the Ten Commandments as possible.
