Trump - "I want to thank God in particular. We love you God" in his address to the nation about bombing Iran

"Tomorrow, General Caine, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will have a press conference at 8 a.m. at the Pentagon. And I want to just thank everybody. And, in particular, God. I want to just say, we love you, God, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East. God bless Israel and God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you. "

That seems a bit OTT for a Presidential address. I get they say "God bless America". I thought that there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State in the USA.

It just sounded unusual.

Exactly, the original testaments are full out war, slavery, rape, killing. You name it.

Trump is very christian in that way.

excatly, its puzzling people say the bibles the word of god so why edit it for modern times its either gods words or its now just humans creating a religion etc for the masses to follow under humans

I'd be curious to know what he is thanking God for in this situation. What help did he think God provided?

I really think that God should be left out of this - the last thing this situation needs is anymore religious elements to it.

He's still high off the high grade narcissistic supply that comes with bombing the world

Swirlythingy2025 · 22/06/2025 21:52

plus how do we know which god he is praising because the devil is in the detail

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/06/2025 21:53

If you really want to explore the whole entirely unnecessary "God" aspect I recommend an Al Jazeera documentary called "Praying for Armageddon". Disturbing.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 22/06/2025 21:53

Even jesus thinks trump is a twat

NoraLuka · 22/06/2025 21:55

I find religion frightening and feel really uncomfortable about a president who controls so much military power making speeches like that.

I still don’t understand how out of all the Americans, Trump was the best one to be President.

My understanding is he’s thanking God for not getting killed that time (when he got shot) so, like, God wanted him to be alive so he could bomb Iran.

(my brain hurt quite a bit just typing that out)

dreamingbohemian · 22/06/2025 22:07

He's just pandering to his base

If anyone's going to hell, it's Trump

JoshLymanSwagger · 22/06/2025 22:07

I thought he was channelling Elvis at the end.

Thank you very much.

Trump is an idiot, but Jesus was an extremist, thats why he came a cropper. Im not sure why people keep making out Jesus was some sort of hippy dippy.

Although probably not money grubbing and sexually abusive, so he is one up on Trump there.

I didn’t make that out. You’re assuming you know what I meant. I like a good revolutionary.

Stripeyanddotty · 22/06/2025 22:14

Iran has said it may close the Strait of Hormuz. 20% of the world’s gas and oil comes through there.

jetlag92 · 22/06/2025 22:15

He;s a loon - don't give him any head space, there is nothing we can do about him

Well thats essentially what people like Trump (and Farage) are, they are social agitators, provocateurs. Shit stirrers basically.

As a Christian it absolutely turns me when he utilises religion to gain "credibility" when most of his actions are pretty anti-Christian.

This.

Not the first time he has play acted a show of faith to appeal to "his base".

He obviously doesn't believe in God but tries to pretend he does because his supporters do.

If there was a spectrum from Jesus to ‘totally and completely the opposite’, Trump would be the other end. Venal, hate-filled, money-grubbing, sexually abusive, repulsive arsehole.

I’m not a Christian but Jesus was definitely my kind of bloke. Trump wouldn't think a Christian thought if his life depended on it.

👏 👏

Boredlass · 23/06/2025 11:14

Anyone saying that would sound unhinged, not just Trump

Gymnopedie · 23/06/2025 11:20

God is rolling his eyes so hard they're in the back of his head.

That's all that needs to be said.

Yes, things like “judge not lest ye be judged” and “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” are pretty extreme.
