Just for a bit of interest/fun and because I'm nosey and would like to know about life in different parts of the world. I'll start...

I'm mid/late 30s, live in NW England, UK. 3dc.
Weather is dull. It's been raining today but has warmed up again a little. The thunderstorms forecast yesterday missed us. I live in a city and I hate it. We're very close to the countryside but as a farmers daughter I am struggling with city living.
News/media is full of Iran/Israel conflict. Not sure what to think myself but trying not to get too invested into watching/reading about it.

Dh and I have and need two cars. Both cars have broken down this weekend, one (dh car) is currently not running. My car is running but unsure how long for. Currently trying to work out how to navigate getting everyone to school, work and various activities this week.
I need to lose a few more pounds, maybe a dress size but I'm starting (for the first time in my life) to enjoy the gym.

Currently lying on the sofa, legs over dh who is watching a car man on YouTube, dcs are all upstairs and I'm pondering what's happening around the world!

You?!

Poll... YABU - don't even ask me, I don't want to share anything, get lost and don't ask again
YANBU - I love learning about people and their lives and would love to share a snippet!

52 yrs old, boiling my ass off in France where we live. It’s currently 30 degrees inside, 35 degrees outside and we are praying for a storm. I just got into my second cold bath of the day, in the Hope of cooling down enough to sleep.

DS1 17 has nearly finished his exams, so he’s out ‘destressing’ with friends. DS2 14 also has exams this week: today he went to local music festival for a little while today, and studied.

We are all melting. DH went to the gym, just to use the cool plunge pool . I have to go to work tomorrow, my office was 30.4 degrees when I left it on Friday 🙄.

so yeah, can’t think of anything else than the heat atm.

rickyrickygrimes · 22/06/2025 20:36

Ps @Throwmoneyatit i also grew up on a farm and now live city centre. I’ve loved it for years - but starting to think about moving back to the countryside once the kids are out of school. My sister just bought a big, tumbledown, rural, money-pit of a house and she’s loving the space / outbuildings / big garden etc. DH would freak out at such a project, but I think I can convince him 🤣

Throwmoneyatit · 22/06/2025 20:46

@rickyrickygrimes I'm not sure I could think either if I was sat in 35ºc, especially not about work! That is definitely a relaxing, dipping feet in the pool with a cold drink type of weather! I don't blame your dh for going to the gym just to use a plunge pool! Was it busy?!
I hope your ds can relax a little now, my ds15 has just finished his GCSEs. Good luck!

Ps... I am always looking at the type of house your sister has. That is mine and dh dream. We're not in a position at the moment to be able to fund that, plus dcs are definitely city children and would hate me forever if I moved them to a field 🤣
Convince him. I'm positive it's the only way to live!

Cooler today tho yesterday was hell

Had a lovely lazy meal with dh over lunch and just chilled this evening teens kids are in bedrooms.

Few chores washing etc
Listened to radio in despair but will live to the full until we can't continue too. Let's hope it doesn't happen. Ordered some bottled water today tho to keep in the cellar.

steff13 · 22/06/2025 20:56

I live in Cincinnati.

It's currently 92° F but feels like 102° F. 53% humidity. It's horrible out there. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

I just had my roof, siding, windows, and front door replaced on my house. It looks pretty good, I just need to paint the door. Flies for in the house this week when we were replacing the windows, so I'm irritated about that. I keep finding more.

One of our cats went missing five weeks ago and just turned up on Friday, so we're happy about that. He's being cranky with the other cats, which is understandable but annoying. He'll get used to us again.

I'm watching a Reds game (Reds are up by three in the bottom of the 6th) and when it's over I'll make dinner (carrot ginger soup and bread). I cleaned the whole house yesterday, so I'm just chilling today - I made my breakfast for the week, fed my sourdough starters, and finished up the laundry.

I'm on a weight loss plan, but I was up a whole pound this morning. I ate absolute garbage yesterday, so I deserved that. I'm currently obsessed with "Black lady shower Tok (talk?)" on TikTok, and I made my own dusting powder today.

Fuzzypinetree · 22/06/2025 21:09

42 years old...temperatures are similar to the French ones. It was 35 degrees today when I picked DS up from his dad's in the early evening. We live in Germany.
I like hot weather so I'm quite enjoying this. I planted some sunflowers in the garden this morning, while it was still cooler. Dropped some stuff off at a friend's house and had a coffee and then went home for lunch. DD (11 months) didn't want to nap so we played a little, I tried to feed her lunch that she mostly threw on the floor and then I popped her in the pushchair and repeatedly walked her through the little bit of forest close to our house until she fell asleep. I did some exercise (following Joe Wicks, trying to get rid of some pregnancy weight) in our home gym, had a shower and then chilled a bit on the sofa in the garden until DD woke up from her nap.
We picked up DS and played a bit in the pool when we got home.

I'm still on maternity leave and it's another two weeks before we break up for the summer holidays. Everyone is winding down already, though, and I'm just hoping DS makes it through the last two weeks without melting.

Our local outdoor pool has opened again (was closed for refurbishment last season) and I'm m looking forward to trying it out while DS is at school and DD at nursery.

We have several crates of bottled (sparkling) water at all times. That's quite normal here and nothing to do with prepping for anything.

Yesterday was hell - I agree!!
It sounds like you've had a lovely day, what did you have for lunch?
Never ending chores. I thought I was done for the night but dd14 has realised that her pe kit hasn't been washed and she's looking very tired so I'll put it in for her once I've showered.
I think you're sensible doing that. I have toyed with the idea of getting a couple of bits stocked up but you never know what could happen just now.

I love having bits done to the house bur I cannot stand the chaos of it all. I get extremely overwhelmed and a but teary!
That's such good news about your cat! Wonder where he's been?!
So, what is a reds game? Did they win?
Your soup sounds very tasty...
Oh I'm with you on deserving to gain weight! I won't be expecting any loss this week as I went to Greggs yesterday, got a few cream cakes and ate most of them 😬

Do you regularly have these temperatures in Germany? Do you have air con or is there not much need? I have always wanted to visit!
Aw, I remember those stages fondly (although probably not so much at the time) when meal times became a game of catch...
That's interesting that schools break up soon. How long is the summer holiday?
An outdoor pool sounds divine! Feeling very envious of no children and a cool pool in hot weather!
I will stock up on water and make it a habit!

Our cats are all indoor, and I think he slipped out when the guys were doing the siding. It was very noisy.

The Reds are a baseball team. The oldest professional team in the US. They are playing the Cardinals in St Louis. They are still in the lead, but it's the bottom of the 8th inning, so there's another inning left. This is their 3rd game with the Cardinals, and then they head home to match with the Yankees Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each series is typically three games. They play 163 games a season in the regular season and then more if they make it to the post season.

Leapintothelightning · 22/06/2025 21:26

Early 30s, live in Scotland with DH, 2 DDs (5 and 2).
Spent today at a play date with DD1 and DD2 is having a sleepover at MIL’s tonight so I don’t need to get her up early to drop her there on my way to work tomorrow.
Excited for last week of term and DD’s nursery graduations this week then 7 week summer holidays in which I will probably be pulling my hair out by the end of the first week.
Warm and windy weather just now, there was a thunderstorm last night which prompted someone to post on the local Facebook group “what’s going on with all the lightning?”

Confusedmeanderings · 22/06/2025 21:35

64 and in the south west of the UK. Much cooler today which is good, plus our house is old and has thick walls so it is reasonably cool inside. The flip side of that is that once it does warm up inside, it will stay warm for ages.

Our freezer is getting a bit unreliable so we went to Currys this morning to have a look at what was in store. Having made a shortlist we then went to a coffee shop to get online and see what the best deals were. Were still undecided and now the freezer seems to be working so we're waiting to see what happens.

Did a bit of life admin this afternoon, including sorting out the settings on DH's Amazon account, which he had managed to mess up somehow. He is in the very early stages of dementia, he still has capacity but gets very muddled up at times.

I made dinner this evening, cottage pie. Me doing the cooking is a rare occurrence these days. I've spent most of our marriage doing it, but DH really stepped up while I was having treatment for breast cancer 3 years ago and took on everything. I haven't suggested he stops and I do more because I figured it's my turn to sit back and relax!

Live just outside Sevenoaks, Kent.

Both retired (72 and 62 respectively).

Had friends over lunchtime for drinks and nibbles. They went about 4.30 and we carried on drinking 😁. Had dinner and are waiting for Justin Timberlake on IOW festival.

echt · 22/06/2025 22:25

I'm 70, retired and in Melbourne. It's mid-winter and weirdly very warm -19 later today. The wind is northerly and straight in from the desert so I won't be washing the car or the windows.

I'm listening to The Archers, having my morning cuppa, then taking the dog for his walk.

I'll be planting trees this afternoon.

Crushed23 · 22/06/2025 22:40

Mid-30s, live in NYC. Bloody 35 degrees today so we spent the day paddeboarding Upstate. Live in a 1-bed apartment in a very ‘prime central’ area of Manhattan with eye-watering rent but I love it to bits. No car, walk everywhere. Never watch the news so can’t comment there. Boyfriend. No kids. Travel a lot. Love exercise and fitness. Go to a lot of raves and festivals. I have never been happier.

Jabberwok · 22/06/2025 22:46

Live in a town near Bristol. I'm retired but have a part time job with the local funeral director (that bits important and will come back to) so one week a month on call to collect the deceased and often during the week act as a bearer. Wife is a cleaner but semi retired. Both in our kid 50s, worked in insurance and banking left when we were 40 to set up micro business cleaning/gardening as it's an affluent town we could easily have expanded but decided not to. No kids (sadly). Mil in mid 90s

the town we live in has gone through massive change in the last 20 years. Lots of development and lots of incomers. That also happened in the 70s, the difference being that the latest batch haven't made much effort to integrate with the town as the development has it's own shops and pubs. So there is a clash. The company I work for has a long long history, still family owned but it's inductive of the town in that the "locals" all use it but the incomers dont. I currently feel a little sad that the old traditional things, like the high street businesses, the flower show, the carnival etc are struggling.

Dog walked and trees planted. Also a line of washing dried in the fierce wind.

The northern desert wind turned up, and as I was talking with a friend on the off-leash oval there was a gust and we both got palpable sand in our teeth. Grin

We tend to have hot summers where we live, yes. Last year was glorious. Giving birth in 40 degree heat when the hospital wasn't equipped with air con wasn't that great but apart from that, it was lovely. DD tends to nap best outside in the front or back garden. (She naps outside at nursery, too.)
And no, we don't tend to have air con, although I guess it's becoming more common in certain places (schools aren't one of them but DD's nursery has a ceiling fan, for example). Our bedrooms are located in the basement (or garden level), though, which means they stay quite cool in summer even without air con. I can walk out from our bedroom into the garden and hop into the pool, if I like.
Our holidays are starting early this year. They start at different times each year because they try not to have all of the federal states have holidays at the same time. They are six weeks long.
Mine are only 5 but I'm a teacher and will be returning after maternity leave, so we've got the last week of the holidays to get stuff ready and do our training (similar to INSETs but during the holidays).

Lucylurker · 23/06/2025 06:06

30 plus here during the day.( South France). Not yet because it’s early. Going for a walk shortly while it’s cool then off to Pilates. I have adapted to be high temps in summer so love it. Dd and a friend coming tomorrow so will prep for that and a couple of bridge tournaments later in the week. We have a pool so I cool off in there and air con but I only use in the nights when it’s very hot. You very much have to change your lifestyle in few months in the summer which I actually enjoy (because I am fundamentally lazy anyway), and the rest of the year is lovely for hiking which I love.
DH still works I don’t.

Meadowfinch · 23/06/2025 06:19

I'm drinking coffee in bed, it's warm sunny and quiet, the windows are open, birdsong, next door's cockerel and thinking what to wear to work. I'm a single mum and this is my thinking-time.

The builders are taking down our horrible conservatory today, hooray. I need to get ds to the school bus then me to work running marketing for a local company.

I've had a busy weekend just doing home stuff, now a busy week.

Life is generally good, no major worries (for once 😊) I try not to watch the news but Trump is a dangerous egomaniac. The voters of the US will come to their senses and get rid of him next time.

AskNotForWhomTheBellCurves · 23/06/2025 07:02

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where I've been living for just over two years. Weather is 30+ year round and humid, but it's not as bad to live in as you might expect. Currently it's rainy season, which is from about May to October, although it's not raining at this moment - it's overcast but bright and windy. It will probably rain really hard for 30 minutes to an hour sometime this afternoon. People are generally aware of big international news stories but they're not a big topic of discussion.

I like my life here but planning on moving back to the UK in a few months, because I don't want to be a teacher forever and there aren't many other jobs for foreigners. I will miss my friends, being warm, eating out cheaply, being able to afford a nice apartment, and my temporarily adopted cat. I'm looking forward to not working six days a week at weird hours, being able to go hiking without sweating to death, not having to constantly worry about visa and other official requirements that change every five seconds, and having an oven.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 23/06/2025 07:08

We have been at the Isle of Wight Festival all weekend. DH took the first 2 late nights while I brought my 2 sons home (13 and 7), and I took yesterday. The main stage closes a wee bit earlier on a Sunday so we were home by 0030, but a combination of that and my youngest who always wakes up early means I have slept very poorly after a long hot weekend of walking around spending mortgage payments on bloody crap food and fairground rides. Feel a little hard done by that I won't get the lovely lie in that DH did both mornings after his late stints as it is Monday, so I'm up sorting packed lunches. Just put some par baked baguettes in the air fryer to bake and am having a coffee.

Luckily we run out own business, so I will be in the office at home today anyway, DH'll be out at the office and the kids will be at school, so I may have a nap later.

The big kids (15 and 13) will be fed up when they leave to get to school, the eldest has done all 3 late nights and they'll be knackered. The festival uses a lot of their school site so it was closed on Friday, but is open today with the pack down going on round it. I bet the teachers will be setting a lot of calm work today!

Life is pretty good, we are comfortable, love our house and each other, and fingers crossed touch wood have 3 happy, healthy kids (15, 13, 7) who are pretty well adjusted, nice people. Though they have their moments, especially the boys! The business is going well, keeps us and the employees busy. I'm in a permanent state of trying to declutter, finish decorating etc.

But right now need to get off my lazy arse and finish packed lunches. 😂

Inextremis · 23/06/2025 08:20

Currently sitting in my kitchen in the west of Ireland, with a plumber replacing our boiling water tap (he's doing the replacing, I'm just trying to look as though I'm doing Something Important on the laptop).

It's 12 degrees outside, grey and dull with a slight breeze. The view over the bay is of clear grey skies and grey ocean. Perfect weather for me - I don't miss the heat and humidity of the UK at all (plus I like grey).

DH is at work, I'm blissfully retired (no DC). Once the plumber's done I'll have breakfast - I'm low carbing at the moment, so it'll probably be an avocado with prawns, and then I'm hoping to do some painting (the art sort, not the wall sort) later. I'm not very good at it, but it's so enjoyable - currently trying to master the technique of painting ocean waves!

I'm watching the birds on the feed tray on the windowsill next to me - chaffinches this morning, plus sparrows - some of which are newly fledged and still nagging their parents to feed them. The rooks have been and left - they'll be back in the afternoon.

Later, I'll prep some chicken thighs for dinner - a simple traybake with peppers, onions and garlic. The thighs are skin-on, and they turn out wonderfully crispy :)

So, a nice calm day - unless anything goes wrong.
