Just for a bit of interest/fun and because I'm nosey and would like to know about life in different parts of the world. I'll start...

I'm mid/late 30s, live in NW England, UK. 3dc.
Weather is dull. It's been raining today but has warmed up again a little. The thunderstorms forecast yesterday missed us. I live in a city and I hate it. We're very close to the countryside but as a farmers daughter I am struggling with city living.
News/media is full of Iran/Israel conflict. Not sure what to think myself but trying not to get too invested into watching/reading about it.

Dh and I have and need two cars. Both cars have broken down this weekend, one (dh car) is currently not running. My car is running but unsure how long for. Currently trying to work out how to navigate getting everyone to school, work and various activities this week.
I need to lose a few more pounds, maybe a dress size but I'm starting (for the first time in my life) to enjoy the gym.

Currently lying on the sofa, legs over dh who is watching a car man on YouTube, dcs are all upstairs and I'm pondering what's happening around the world!

You?!

Poll... YABU - don't even ask me, I don't want to share anything, get lost and don't ask again
YANBU - I love learning about people and their lives and would love to share a snippet!

Mid 40's living in the Middle East, luckily nowhere near any of the tensions (Oman).

Went for a run this morning at 4am and it was already 34C and very humid, temperatures will hit around 46C today.

Forgot to take mince out of the freezer to make burritos this morning so trying to decide what to have for lunch whilst sat in work (tend to have main meal mid-afternoon due to working hours).

Going to Yoga later this evening and may have a quick dip in the sea afterwards.

Our cats are all indoor, and I think he slipped out when the guys were doing the siding. It was very noisy.

The Reds are a baseball team. The oldest professional team in the US. They are playing the Cardinals in St Louis. They are still in the lead, but it's the bottom of the 8th inning, so there's another inning left. This is their 3rd game with the Cardinals, and then they head home to match with the Yankees Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each series is typically three games. They play 163 games a season in the regular season and then more if they make it to the post season.

That's a lot of games, I had no idea!
Hope you've had a lovely day!

Early 30s, live in Scotland with DH, 2 DDs (5 and 2).
Spent today at a play date with DD1 and DD2 is having a sleepover at MIL’s tonight so I don’t need to get her up early to drop her there on my way to work tomorrow.
Excited for last week of term and DD’s nursery graduations this week then 7 week summer holidays in which I will probably be pulling my hair out by the end of the first week.
Warm and windy weather just now, there was a thunderstorm last night which prompted someone to post on the local Facebook group “what’s going on with all the lightning?”

Isn't it great when something happens to make your Monday morning slightly easier! Your holidays are earlier than us, we're a few weeks off and when you've finished tearing your hair out, I'll be in the thick of it!
Haha, don't you love Facebook posts! The main culprits around here are: found cats (can you believe it?!), 'does anybody recognise this doorstep' and 'there are lots of sirens tonight' types of posts!

64 and in the south west of the UK. Much cooler today which is good, plus our house is old and has thick walls so it is reasonably cool inside. The flip side of that is that once it does warm up inside, it will stay warm for ages.

Our freezer is getting a bit unreliable so we went to Currys this morning to have a look at what was in store. Having made a shortlist we then went to a coffee shop to get online and see what the best deals were. Were still undecided and now the freezer seems to be working so we're waiting to see what happens.

Did a bit of life admin this afternoon, including sorting out the settings on DH's Amazon account, which he had managed to mess up somehow. He is in the very early stages of dementia, he still has capacity but gets very muddled up at times.

I made dinner this evening, cottage pie. Me doing the cooking is a rare occurrence these days. I've spent most of our marriage doing it, but DH really stepped up while I was having treatment for breast cancer 3 years ago and took on everything. I haven't suggested he stops and I do more because I figured it's my turn to sit back and relax!

Well, if your lovely dh is still enjoying cooking then, why not?! Do you make a good cottage pie? Do you put cheese on top?
Oh the dreaded appliance search. It blows my mind! Glad you don't have to do it just yet!
You and your dh sound like a fantastic couple, I hope you've enjoyed your day x

Love to hear from posters all over the world.

Confusedmeanderings · 23/06/2025 23:00

@Throwmoneyatit I make a banging cottage pie, if I say so myself! However I don't put cheese on top. Perhaps I should try that!

This is really interesting.

I’m in my 40s, single and no kids and live in the Caribbean. Spent the day at the beach. Sounds idyllic and I’m sure people will think I’m mad, but getting a bit bored of the lifestyle and getting itchy feet! Need to book a trip I think.

Love hearing about others lives and hearing about where you are in the world.

undercovermarsupial · 24/06/2025 00:24

What an interesting idea for a thread!

I live in a small rural town in Somerset, we moved here just over a year ago from a not particularly nice town in Kent. We live in a very old cottage, which is quite a change for us. I hated where we used to live and we decided to up sticks and move rather impulsively after an absolutely horrendous few years that were nothing but stress, and the years before that weren’t much better to be honest. It’s a fresh new start for me and I’m properly happy for the first time in my life, it was like a cloud lifted and never returned when we got the keys.

It’s about 23 degrees during the day at the moment but feels much cooler downstairs because of thick stone walls, but it’s bloody boiling and sticky upstairs.

We’ve just got a new car in the last couple of days because we suddenly needed a second when my DH started a new non-remote job. Tiny budget so we bought the only automatic car that was available on our budget within a reasonable distance without terrifying advisories on the MOT, which turned out to be a convertible with rather a lot of miles on the clock. Took my DS for a drive in it after school with the top down, which he was ecstatic about. Then we spent the rest of the evening trying (and failing) to teach our pet rats some tricks.

Trying not to check the news too much, it’s just all awful 😞

Spidey66 · 24/06/2025 00:38

Late 50s, married, child free, dog owner and lover. Semi retired mental health nurse.

Originate from London but my background is Irish. I lived in London till last autumn when we upped sticks and relocated to Frome in Somerset. We've been in rented accommodation but are about to move into our own home, a newly refurbished period terraced property, which we're looking forward to!

It's been hot here till the weekend but a bit cooler, more changeable with occasional showers since.

I've spent the day in ikea in Bristol getting some stuff for the new house, then we strolled down the new place continuing to get it ready. Then I spent ages doing admin....informing banks, utilities etc of the move and tidying up our admin file. I'm now doing some late night MNing before bed. My husband's already asleep upstairs and the dog's nodding off in her bed but God knows where she's going to sleep later. This is where I found her when I got up for the loo at 3am last night.

What is your life and what is life like where you live right now? Not just UK!

Friends, I have terrible news - my air conditioner died last night. I've purchased a new one, but they can't install it until Wednesday. We're making do with fans until then. It's currently 94°, but feels like 102°.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/06/2025 00:50

British expat in my early 50’s. Currently in Northern Alberta, where recent rain is a blessing in wildfire season. DS last official day of school was the 13th and his final end of year exam is tomorrow. We’re then packing up and driving for 8 hours to our other home in the Rockies for the summer. We’ll be there until late August.
I work for Federal and Provincial election agencies and was one of the 343 returning officers for the election which brought Carney in. I pay close attention to politics, but can’t comment on it (I have to be seen to be impartial). Our summer home is less than an hour from the G7 venue and we stayed there last summer. We said now would be a good time to stay there, as it will have had a big facelift.

iamnotalemon · 24/06/2025 01:17

@Spidey66oh bless her, maybe it’s a bit cooler! My cat hides in the bath sometimes but stupidly sits under the taps (which sometimes drip!)

MuckFusk · 24/06/2025 01:33

Early sixties, retired and currently sweating from a heat wave in western Quebec. Luckily for me I live by water and can go for a swim to refresh me as many times a day as I like.
Life is generally pretty good here. I don't have any complaints about the quality of life in these parts other than having to shovel my driveway in the winter and the rest of the year I have to rake up leaves, conifer needles and acorns from the ten million effing trees on my property. I have a bad back and it's absolute murder. But I love the trees all the same.
On the whole I feel lucky to be where I am. It's beautiful and peaceful here and most people seem to be friendly and kind. I acknowledge that I'm privileged in many ways. Giving to charity helps with the guilt. 😉

Hell yeah, summer in the Rockies! As Borat would say, very nice.

Mid sixties, retired and living in a small rural town in NZ. We had a cold frosty night, but today has been sunny without a cloud in the sky, but a chilly breeze. I seem to have been running around most of the day, getting papers certified by a JP and doing some shopping. I've now just returned from feeding the ducks in the park and am about to watch an episode of Taggart, which I am watching from the first episode right through to the last one.

People here are friendly and it's a nice town, with lots of trees and views of the snow covered mountains. All my lovely cats have died, but one of my neighbour's cats has almost moved in and I have been feeding a stray, but he hasn't turned up today.

estrogone · 24/06/2025 05:21

Inner city Melbourne on a mid winter day. It's windy and chilly.

I am curled up with a cuppa, in bed with my cat, having a rare day off work. Spent the morning clothes shopping with DD who is home from Uni.

I am 51, CEO of a Tech Company and have two other older children.

Melbourne is a bloody awesome place to live.

Soomanybooks · 24/06/2025 05:30

I’ve just turned 50 and live in Adelaide, South Australia. We are having some much needed rain. It’s odd we’ve have drought conditions for some time and it’s definitely dry but because we have a desalination plant, I think people living in the suburbs haven’t been impacted much as we haven’t had water restrictions. It’s eleven degrees Celsius in the afternoon and that’s pretty much as cold as it gets.

My daughter is meant to be flying to Edinburgh on Sunday for a school Literature Trip but we are waiting to hear it goes ahead as they fly via Doha.

61here · 24/06/2025 05:46

Mid 60s and love in a small but very popular seaside town in the north east. Weather has gone cool and cloudy. I've a busy week of childcare for my grandchildren this week but I have chronic insomnia alongside other health issues so I'm knackered already!! Off on holiday in a couple of weeks so hoping the heatwave in Europe breaks by then as husband struggles if it's super hot!!

I’m in my early 30’s. Married to a US military serviceperson. 3DC’s.
We currently in the western United States, in an extremely dry, desert climate. Today is actually the coolest day we’ve had in well over a month - it’s currently 3pm and 34°C, which feels blissfully cool compared to the mid-40’s which is the norm for this time of year.
DCs are on their insanely long summer break from school (12 weeks 🫠🫠🫠) and don’t go back until mid-August, so I’m now in that endless loop of trying to keep them busy and entertained everyday while it’s hotter than the devil’s armpit outside the vast majority of the time, and unsafe for them to play outside for more than a few minutes at a time.
Today the youngest two DC’s have had a dental check up and cleaning, now about to head home and find out what my Roomba has got stuck on because my phone is buzzing incessantly informing me of my poor Roomba’s emergency 🫠😂

Live in small village in SouthEast England enjoying the few days break between heatwaves. Been swimming in the sea to cool off. Love where we live , some lovely pubs and cafés and a great community spirit.

cannychanter · 24/06/2025 23:42

Late 30s, living in a small town in NW England which both DP and I are originally from. We had met in the city we were both living in at the time and returned to our hometown the Christmas before Covid. It's a very low key and relaxed pace of life here; it could be too quiet for some but we were ready to return after 15 years of being away. No kids. Today I've been working from home while the dog has mostly napped at my feet, though have had two long walks in the rain both before and after work. DP is away with work until tomorrow evening, so I've had an evening to myself which means cooking an easy meal, making plans with friends for the weekend, choosing paint colours for the bathroom, and having one eye on crap TV that I rarely get to watch. Living here does have some downsides but on the whole I feel fortunate to live here and don't think I'd swap it for my old city life.

46 yo married (dh is American) mom of 4, 1 grand baby. I live just outside Washington DC where I teach English and Social Skills to high school students with disabilities. Normally I don’t hate living in the US as long as I get home to the Uk for family visits, and Bakewell tarts from time to time, but this current situation has me on Zoopla constantly looking to move home. Yes the weather here is lovely and you get a lot of house for your money, but it doesn’t feel very safe atm.

I feel that deeply.
We do have plans to return to the U.K. (albeit temporarily on a posting) but I’ve been perving on RightMove every other day since we first heard whispers about going home 🫣🫣🫠😂😂
