Just for a bit of interest/fun and because I'm nosey and would like to know about life in different parts of the world. I'll start...

I'm mid/late 30s, live in NW England, UK. 3dc.
Weather is dull. It's been raining today but has warmed up again a little. The thunderstorms forecast yesterday missed us. I live in a city and I hate it. We're very close to the countryside but as a farmers daughter I am struggling with city living.
News/media is full of Iran/Israel conflict. Not sure what to think myself but trying not to get too invested into watching/reading about it.

Dh and I have and need two cars. Both cars have broken down this weekend, one (dh car) is currently not running. My car is running but unsure how long for. Currently trying to work out how to navigate getting everyone to school, work and various activities this week.
I need to lose a few more pounds, maybe a dress size but I'm starting (for the first time in my life) to enjoy the gym.

Currently lying on the sofa, legs over dh who is watching a car man on YouTube, dcs are all upstairs and I'm pondering what's happening around the world!

You?!

Poll... YABU - don't even ask me, I don't want to share anything, get lost and don't ask again
YANBU - I love learning about people and their lives and would love to share a snippet!

I live in Australia, currently winter here obviously.
I have 17 year old twins who finish highschool this year, so the next 6 months will be a whirlwind.
School holidays started (mid year) yesterday and we have come to the beach for some R and R before things heat up at school
Just walks and reading, as it's too cold to swim for us.
Perfect weather though. Dry and bright.

What is your life and what is life like where you live right now? Not just UK!

It sounds lovely there. Sorry about your cats.

Thank you.

This is a lovely thread.

I’m mid 50s, originally from the north of England, and after many moves, have been settled in Las Vegas (baby) for the last 10 years.

It’s hot today, high 90°s, dry heat which I find manageable. We’ve bought an old mid century fixer upper ranch, we did the kitchen last year which is fantastic, and saving up do the backyard. We have a huge pool and spa, which makes the summer manageable and it’s heated so we use it all year. Pool is 9ft deep, which is grandfathered in as it’s an old home. New pools are only allowed to be 4-5ft deep and not very big either, so we’re fortunate to have this in the yard.

My teenage kids are well into summer break. They break up here mid May and get over 3 months off. I keep them busy, sports camps, invite friends over, and they also do academic classes so back to school isn’t such a shock, as I think the summer break is too long.

I am about to make dinner, just build your own tacos, which is one of the few meals everyone loves. Better get my arse in gear before the “when’s dinner, Mum” starts.

It reached 38 degrees in NYC today - I’m envious of your pool! We were in Vegas last month, as we tagged a couple of nights there at the end of a road trip out west. Love it every time. Planning to go back next May for a festival.

I'm 36 and live in Queensland, Australia (near Fraser Island). It's winter here and we've had some chilly mornings, but very few days are actually really cold in QLD. No kids, been married almost 16 years. I work with animals and my husband is an engineer. I love to read and have a whole room in the house that I've made into my library. We've been working hard and will have our mortgage paid off before we're 40. We are planning a trip to Whistler for Christmas 2028 to celebrate paying off the mortgage, celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and both our 40th birthdays all in the same year. I can't wait for a white Christmas. When I was 19, I did a working holiday to Cambridge and spent 4 months waitressing and travelling UK and Europe.

whynotmereally · 25/06/2025 04:13

North in uk deprived area. Married three kids. Have a four bed detached house, two cars. We are ok financially with some spare money each money. Life is quite hard though due to mine and my son’s disabilities.

HerRoyalNotness · 25/06/2025 04:17

52 and stuck in Texas for over a decade. I hate it here. I’ve just been back to my home country with my DC and we were so happy. I’m always so happy there, sleep well, smile and laugh more, and lose weight. So depressed being back. My eldest is going to college in the fall 8hrs away. We’re all going to miss him very much. My youngest loves him the most. We have a cat (which seems to only like me) and a dog. Our dogs best friend moved with her mama a month ago. She’s lonely and so is her best friend. The Dog mama texted and has said the move (closer to family) was a mistake. I could only advise that it would get better with time. But as I know, it may definitely not.

I volunteer at school and at a sports club and work. I’m busy either the kids. I’d like to do something for me, learn something new, be a bit more creative, but don’t seem to have any good ideas. I will keep pondering this to make life a little more interesting and bearable.

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 25/06/2025 04:40

I'm in Kuala Lumpur, working as a teacher in an international school. Married with two young daughters. Tomorrow is the last day of term and then next week we will fly back to England for the summer holidays. It's hot but a bit rainy here today and we have a fair in the school field so we are hoping the rain stops soon!
We have lived here for 10 years and it's a great lifestyle. Free private healthcare and private school for our children, we live in a great 4 bed apartment and have a live in cleaner. We also have a pool where we live which our girls love.

AusMumhere · 25/06/2025 04:41

49 years old, in Brisbane. 22 degrees outside and windy.
I'm on day 12 of a cold/respiratory illness and exhausted.
I'm also job hunting after 12 month of mat leave.
Brisbane is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Not impressed with the 'new' state government though

CrocsNotDocs · 25/06/2025 05:03

Far North Queensland. It’s a lovely 29 degrees on a midwinter day. Last night it dropped to 18 degrees and I had to get a light blanket out of the linen cupboard. Brrr.

Dealing with a freaked out electrician who found a small snake skin in my power box. Seriously- how can you be an electrician in Queensland if snake skins in power boxes freak you out.

Flying out to NZ on Saturday so the kids will finally experience colder weather and will see snow for the first time! We are all a bit excited.

I thought my youngest had head lice but luckily it was just a dry scalp. Winning. Did not want to be treating her for lice while on holidays.

Using up food in fridge before holiday and planning he military operation to catch the cat in the morning before he senses he is going to the cattery and does a runner.

Kids are at school, DH is at work.

Movingon2024 · 25/06/2025 05:45

Mid 50s and living in Rome here. Single parent of a 17 year old who is at international school here.

both love and am frustrated by Rome. Great lifestyle, yoga in the park, wine-tasting, weekends at the beach, amazing Tuscan countryside an hour away. But the city can be hard work and not v clean where I am.

v hot atm - around 34 dg forecast today. Thank heavens for aircon. Friend coming out with her teenage daughter this weekend & trying to think of how to keep them entertained without frying.

Longdarkteatimeofthesoul · 25/06/2025 06:27

Lovely idea for a thread OP.

Mid 50s and live in Melbourne, Australia. Currently it is about 7degrees outside - so quite a cold and wet day. Very blustery too and I got wet taking our 2 big dogs for a walk. There is talk of snow hitting the hills about a 20 minute drive away. Daughter is doing her VCE this year but is home sick. A bit of a stressful year as it is her last year and she is wanting to get into Uni. We are financially comfortable - house is paid off and I am retired - DP will retire in the next 5 years hopefully and the 2 kids will both be at Uni and living at home (less young people seem to go to a different City in Aus for Uni - only if they are living in the Country or their city doesnt offer the course etc). Looking forward to the next year few years.

naomicrobiome · 25/06/2025 06:48

Early 30s, no partner or children. I live in a very rural part of the southeastern US. Loathe the combination of heat and humidity. It wreaks havoc on my skin, and I much prefer being bundled in jumper and coat to being half-naked and sweating. It's quite depressing here, as there's no cultural diversity and very little in the way of employment opportunities or affordable housing. The cost of everything keeps rising. I've finally sorted myself and decided university is a must. (Better late than never, yes!?) Currently researching UK international student options extensively to see if that's feasible. I no longer feel safe in the US. Trump is a loose cannon.

WalkingLong · 25/06/2025 08:39

Love reading this thread. I’m in my 50s married with two teenagers. Live SW England moved here so can I swim in the sea, run on the beach and cycle the country lanes. My job is mostly remote. Eldest finished college and about to go out more in the world it’s lovely and strange at the same time wafching her drive herself (in my car) to sports training. Currently feeling bit unwell with virus hoping it lifts soon as we are off on hols at weekend and so I’m hoping it’s a nice one as it could be the last time eldest daughter wants to come on a summer active holiday with us. I dearly love to retire early and travel again like in my 20s but will have to wait a bit longer until second teen is older and university costs are sorted.

WalkingLong · 25/06/2025 08:42

@naomicrobiome go for it with what do you have to lose if you don’t like where you are? Find a place that feeds your soul as life really is too short. I moved to settle down in my early 30s and so pleased we did. Everyone says “you’re lucky to live there” but we made a conscious choice too.

I hope you have a wonderful time in NZ. We are expecting a southerly change in the next few days which will bring more snow to the mountains.

MyKingdomForACat · 25/06/2025 13:36

I’m 63, in South London and retired. Just been to get the car jet washed. Home. Put some washing on and hoovered the front room. Have two sons the eldest of whom has just given me my first grandchild. A little boy. Two weeks ago. He’s so cute. Warm here but a nice breeze. Going to heat up over the weekend I think

Purplebunnie · 25/06/2025 14:55

Love seeing where you all are

Late 60's SE UK. It's lovely today, been and picked some sweet peas in the garden and dead headed some roses. Cant get to the compost bin as its surrounded from packing from the solar panels being installed. Hoping they'll be finished soon, the installers been perfectly lovely but I like my home to myself. DH will be down here later to show me it all working on his phone.

Two DDs, 1DGC. They and their partners and my DGC all light up my life

saltinesandcoffeecups · 25/06/2025 15:29

This is a fun thread… Here’s my slice of life

Late 40’s live in the US Upper Midwest (middle of the country at the top). Have been off work since February for cancer treatment (Encourage everyone you know to get those HPV vaccines!). Super excited to be going back to work in 2 weeks. Have completed chemo with great results and starting radiation ☢️. My allergies 🤧 are killing me right now and I have drippy nose.

I am sitting on my screened porch, it’s a dreary day with rain off and on but it’s not hotter than satan’s armpit so I’ll gladly take it. Today my goal is laundry and I’m going to start to find all my summer work clothes. The crew just showed up at my neighbor’s house. He’s had a concrete poured for a patio. It’s a Mexican crew and their music was making me laugh the other day. It ranged from mariachi like to current pop Spanish to old-school country western. No music at the moment.

I’m coming off of chemo from last week so feel human again. I’m hoping food tastes normal today.

I am currently the most boring person on the planet 🙁 and will probably get sucked into FB videos of cake decorating or sailing at some point in the day. I won’t lie, during this adventure I’ve had to remind myself that signing contracts while under the influence of narcotics isn’t allowed. If it was I may have bought a sailboat and started planning my trips around the world.

bythebanksof · 25/06/2025 16:11

We sold our house a few weeks ago (after 12 years living in Ireland) and are moving back "home" to south east England in the coming weeks. All the logistics are sorted. Loved living here, but it's time to move on.

DH has just retired. I have a new job which I'm looking forward to (but also a little anxious about), starting in end Sept. Our kids work in tech area, so we'll be leaving one here in Ireland, and our other is already working abroad in Germany for a few years.

Looking forward to the next weeks of taking it easy, and take it from there.

iamnotalemon · 26/06/2025 00:17

@saltinesandcoffeecups glad to hear you are doing well and looking forward to heading back to work. Buy yourself a sailboat x

StepUpSlowly · 26/06/2025 01:26

It’s been oddly interesting reading about people’s lives.

I feel pretty dull those days so unsure what to share, but currently living in boiling Spain where the weather currently means that leaving the house between 10-18h feels like a death sentence, so I have been spending a lot of my time indoors with the dog I am fostering.

He is currently at the dog sitter because I intended to travel to another part of Spain for a few days but changed my travel plans and now will travel much closer to home over the weekend, I still chose to bring him to the dog sitter today so I could get some stuff done instead of changing the dates but it’s now 2 am and I am feeling the urge to go get him because turns out I don’t really like being without him now, especially at night, I won’t of course, but definitely kicking myself for wanting some “me time” turns out I am not enjoying.

Apart from that, I am very late 20’s, about to turn 30 any minute now, and I made a thread not so long ago about whether or not I should quit my job and turns out I did in fact quit my job, but now feeling a bit lost after doing the same thing over a decade and I am trying to enjoy and embrace the free time I so craved but I am just not used to not work and have a purpose/direction and feel like I have massive imposter syndrome every time I try to apply for any job that’s not in my field. So I don’t, even though I used to daydream about doing anything else. Hopefully I get over that phase and start feeling motivated and purposeful again soon as not liking being in the mood.

That being said I am keeping busy with summer activities and the renovation of the second property I have just bought, it’s quite nice to see how quickly things are evolving and I am hopeful that it will all be done and ready by mid-July. It’s Spain though so endless delays without explanation is part of the process and in fact was supposed to have my kitchen delivered Monday, then today, and still no kitchen (good thing I do have a bit of a crush on the lady working the kitchen area at my local hardware store, so any excuse is a good excuse to go back and enquire about the kitchen’s whereabout, ahem, is it bad I low-key wish the kitchen gets lost for another week so I can keep kindly going back to enquire and maybe ask for her number?!)

Apart from that. Not much, got a few trips abroad planned over the next few months but mainly wanting to enjoy the summer here even if I just wish the heat would drop down 5 degrees, as to be able to really enjoy it without feeling like I am overheating.

cannotbetooarsed · 26/06/2025 01:36

I live in SE England and enjoying the beautiful weather. My son in Melbourne and feeling chilly 😂He loves living there but am getting a few vibes that he would love to be home for now. Am visiting in November and hopefully he will come home, even for a visit next year 🙏🙏
