Should we pay BBC licence fee

I think we should still pay ithe BBC licence fee but I see someone else has been accused of bullying ....this time on BBC breakfast..I still think it is great value for money though. They make quality programmes and are are balanced in their reporting. I think it's unfair that they get so much stick. We need a public service broadcaster..

I've absolutely no interest in drag!

But presumably you click on them, otherwise how would you know where the bias lies in the editorial content?

Admitting that on here is akin to admitting you are cruel to kittens 😂

hehe, I am not cruel to kittens, my other half still thinks the detector vans were really able to detect unlicensed TVs!

Edited

It's on my BBC news app, I don't click on anything.

I’ve been to several countries, America included. For this reason despite the BBC pissing me off in recent years with its false and ridiculous ‘balance’ which just platforms wackos and their determination to have Farage everywhere, I would still pay to keep it.

Noodledog · 21/06/2025 19:26

No, I'm not giving my money to an organisation with a long history of tolerating and protecting sex offenders if the BBC considers them to be "talent" (bleugh). And then there's the threatening letters they send out by the lorry load. They can go and fuck themselves.

If they do make a good programme (rare), it will likely be sold to a streaming service at some point. If they made something I was desperate to see (which has never actually happened) that they didn't sell, I'd just go without rather than give them money.

But I haven't had a TV licence for years now, and don't miss it at all.

OonaStubbs · 21/06/2025 19:32

If it's funded by taxation how can it be unbiased? It's always going to be biased towards the current government who can cut or increase funding.

Purplebunnie · 21/06/2025 19:39

Well now they've/soon to be stopped paying Lineker they should have quite a bit of money to put into something else. Never understood why he got paid so much money

Not really. They moved non-critical things to Salford (e.g. CBBC, Breakfast TV, etc.) but, culturally, the BBC remains a London-based organisation which reflects the values and power of London/SE.

When the BBC did move there was a lot of squealing and moaning from quite a number of well-paid people who simply couldn't comprehend or accept that life exists beyond the M25.

That’s not true. Loads of key programmes especially radio were moved. And you can’t blame the BBC for staff not wanting to move hundreds of miles. I can’t imagine many organisations where the staff would be happy about having to relocate hundreds of miles. People are people wherever they work and lots of he roles that moved were not highly paid.

It's there on the list of news items to choose from.. I click on anything I'm interested in, not drag.

Well, exactly. So you don't know what the article about drag says, so you don't know if it shows the bias you're accusing the BBC of.

Freysimo · 22/06/2025 12:35

Just the fact that there's so many articles about drag is a bias and I'll guarantee they're all favourable.

Ablondiebutagoody · 20/06/2025 10:58

I disagree. The output is shit and politically biased. I don't want anything to do with it so I don't pay. In my opinion a subscription model would be a more appropriate way of funding the BBC but considering you can opt out of paying, that's the way it is going anyway.

Just watched The Gold. It wasn't shit.
