Should we pay BBC licence fee

Daygloboo · 20/06/2025 10:53

I think we should still pay ithe BBC licence fee but I see someone else has been accused of bullying ....this time on BBC breakfast..I still think it is great value for money though. They make quality programmes and are are balanced in their reporting. I think it's unfair that they get so much stick. We need a public service broadcaster..

Do other media even track and publish their corrections and clarifications?

They do but maybe not as neatly as the bbc but they all have to post corrections if they are required.

You’ll find them all on Google or if you know the exact one you can search say daily mail (issue) correction. Telegraph (item) correction.

So you’re saying every source that isn’t the BBC is manipulated and lying? Really?

No, I like channel 4. The Guardian. Bits of the i. And other lesser known publications and outlets.

But many mainstream outlets are slanted to the benefits of their billionaire owners.

So you think you’re capable of finding untainted sources but that poster isn’t? And if you think papers like the Guardian don’t have an agenda then I don’t know what to tell you. Used to love The G but, like the BBC, it isn’t what it once was.

Of course it's got an agenda but imo it and the bbc have got healthier agendas than some of the other sources. Nothing' s neutral, is it.

So, basically you think everyone should think the same as you? Because you approve of the BBC’s agenda, you think everyone else should too?

No, nothing is neutral which is why it’s weird you’re pushing the BBC and making out anyone who reads other sources is being manipulated.

Well, specific sources. Which tend to dominated. I think we all know who they are. I think we are sleepwalking into mind control. Have you read 1984

Yes I have. I’m not even arguing the media is biased and has an agenda, I just think you’re ignoring the fact the media you like is also biased and has an agenda; you’re just fine with it because it’s an agenda you like.

RalphWiggumsCrayon · 20/06/2025 22:00

@Daygloboo on the subject on 1984, did you know Orwell worked at the BBC and some of the things he saw happening there, directly inspired the book?

I think it is a better agenda, yes. I freely admit it.

Multiple manipulated, lying sourced

So if I start watching the BBC, I’ll be ok?

So actually you don’t have a problem with people being manipulated, just as long as they’re manipulated in a way you find agreeable. Right.

You know that's being deliberately provocative and simplistic but do I think you'd be better off watching BBC than GB new...yes, yes I do.

Except they’re not balanced at all are they? They think men are women. I won’t pay them a penny. I got great pleasure cancelling my DD about a month ago.

Actually, I think she’d be better off reading a wide range of sources and using her critical thinking skills to parse the info and come to a conclusion. Relying on any one source, even the sainted BBC is hardly the most intelligent way to form an opinion. Did she even mention GB News?

When did i ever say one source. I was suggesting that certain right wing outlets swallow up and dominate to the point where they could become the only source of information and that's dangerous. The B B C tries to be balanced. My mother grew up in a country that was occupied by Nazis during the war. I've heard plenty of tales of how quickly things can change. That's why I llme a public broadcaster that is nit bei v financed by advertising etc. Im not saying g its perfect. I think it's better than s lot of things and we'll be sorry if we lose it.

Insane, you keep changing what you said. One poster said she checks multiple sources for her news and you accused her of checking multiple manipulated sources based on no evidence whatsoever.

If think public broadcasters can’t be manipulated, maybe look at why Orwell was inspired to write 1984, at least in part, due to his time in the BBC.

Nope. Modern TV habits have changed with streaming platforms. BBC's most popular programmes EastEnders and Match of the day barely even get 4m viewers these days.
