To think this was shitty of my manager?

I have a meeting scheduled with a group of colleagues. This meeting is notoriously difficult to schedule because of everyone's working hours.

My manager then scheduled a mandatory training course which completely overlapped this meeting. Everyone in the meeting I planned has to go to the training course. I asked if the training could be moved forward and why, to be told no. Why does this training trump my meeting? It just adds to the feeling of him not giving a damn. I felt like walking out to be honest.

Bloody hell op

It trumps your meeting because someone more senior thinks it does. End of.

Gingerbis · 16/06/2025 16:42

If it’s important enough, people will find the time

TreatTreat · 16/06/2025 16:43

But it means me rescheduling this hard to schedule meeting yet again. I feel he's disrespecting my time and my plans.

Yes this.

Meetings are a load of bollocks anyway.

HelenWheels · 16/06/2025 16:44

frustrating!
and start again op

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/06/2025 16:44

The manager has decided that the mandatory training is more important than the meeting you scheduled, so did what someone more senior can do.

CopperWhite · 16/06/2025 16:45

Which is more important to the organisation? Staff training, or discussing whatever you need to discuss at your meeting?

Well then raise this with him in a professional non emotional manner op

My meeting.

What is your meeting for?
And why has everyone got to do the training at the same time?

Your manager is in charge of the ranking of the scheduled work.
As Gingerbis points out your manager out ranks you when it comes to scheduling so there is little you can do other than make sure you meeting agenda being deferred becomes your managers responsibility if it creates problems later.

Imo If you fee undervalued to the extent that your want to walk out on the spot its time to start job hunting as there is little chance of you having good work relationship.

He didn't even mention the clash before he scheduled in the training. I would have minded a bit less then, but I spend so long on arranging that bloody meeting around everyone's hours and schedule.

If it's hard to arrange a meeting, it's going to be just as hard to arrange staff training, which an organisation is always going to see as more important.

Viviennemary · 16/06/2025 16:54

TreatTreat · 16/06/2025 16:52

My meeting.

But your Manager disagrees. I doubt it been deliberately arranged to sabotage your meeting. But if you feel it has you need to start looking for a new job.

waltzingparrot · 16/06/2025 16:55

If everyone is there for the training, can you not schedule a short meeting after for your requirements.

Hayley1256 · 16/06/2025 16:55

Why has it taken so long to arrange a meeting? I arrange meetings all the time with very busy people and just use scheduling assistant on outlook as it shows me all their diaries at once.

That's what I've had to do but it really needed longer for the meeting.

Could your meeting be an email instead? Wink

Everyone's a winner then.

And like a PP said, if it's that hard to arrange a meeting, it'll be just as hard to arrange training.

HelenWheels · 16/06/2025 17:01

can the meeting start before the training, and carry on after the training. its a win win

Beetletweetle · 16/06/2025 17:04

My approach to this is "meeting X is on at x time (deliberately scheduled when everyone is unavailable). If you can't make it send in comments. Decisions made at x meeting are final".

Then make all the decisions on your own and live your life.

jamanbutter · 16/06/2025 17:05

Wow

Gingerbis · 16/06/2025 17:07

“Mandatory”

would indicate it is somewhat important op

Gingerbis · 16/06/2025 17:07

TreatTreat · 16/06/2025 16:52

My meeting.

Hardly the most objective

and your manager thinks otherwise

CopperWhite · 16/06/2025 16:45

That depends on if it's crucial training like the mandatory stuff you have to do in financial services or equality and diversity nonsense. As everyone else has already said though, it's your manager's decision.

Probably because he wasn’t bloody aware op

it is MANDATORY training

it’s being prioritised

seriously op, just reschedule. If people thinks it important, they will prioritise
