Would you waste money on a pregnancy test in this situation ?

This could be a pregnancy thing ( very unlikely ) or more likely a hormones thing.

I am 39, two kids.

My period is due and reasonably regular. Between 28-33 days.

Today is day 29 and it’s expected tomorrow. However it could also be further away if that makes sense.

I have had very very mild spotting and very very mild cramping since yesterday.

for the last 5 years, I’ve not had this kind of spotting. Usually, my period just starts.

I very much doubt I am pregnant. But I wonder if peri menopause can start this way ? I don’t think I’m going to waste my money on a test.

WHY would anyone buy a pregnancy test before their periods were even due?

I did once when I just felt really off..turns out I was pregnant

Didimum · 14/06/2025 15:36

Seems a bit of an overreaction. I’d just wait.

vivainsomnia · 14/06/2025 15:39

Did you have sex without protection? If yes, then of course its very possible. If you used something, much more unlikely!

Soubriquet · 14/06/2025 15:42

They cost £1… not really breaking the bank

whi · 14/06/2025 15:51

I know I’m probably not pregnant, but just wondering if it could also be peri menopause ?

You can use the £1 test strips, they work just as well

I mean if you're having unprotected sex then there is a chance you may be pregnant so.....

Well yeah of course there’s a chance.

I’m just curious if it could also be a peri menopause thing.

it is definitely out of the norm for me. Something is different.

off the top of my head: because they are excited, curious, worried?

Pregnancy tests can show a positive 5 days before you are due

I don’t know why people act like it’s outrageous to test before midnight on the day.

feelingbleh · 14/06/2025 16:04

If your trying to get pregnant then yes its worth checking

ThatWildMintSloth · 14/06/2025 16:05

I'd buy one and take it as I'm an overthinker and so at least I could rule it out (or not)

EveryDayisFriday · 14/06/2025 16:05

I've used cheap ones despite DH having had the snip. My periods were on the dot so anything unusual, I'd test despite a medical miracle chance of being pregnant. Anything for peace of mind.

tammienorrie · 14/06/2025 16:12

Do you want to be pregnant?

it's not outrageous, but it's not very wise let's say.

Why not?

Sprogonthetyne · 14/06/2025 17:11

No spending the next few day worrying is worth more to me then the £1 a pregnancy test costs. Clearly it's on your mind a enough for you to have started a thread, so unless your very much on the breadline, I'd test.

FunMustard · 14/06/2025 17:15

What would be the point?

It's either going to tell you you're pregnant or not. And if it says you're not, it could be wrong.

I wouldn't take a test until I was at least a week past my period due date.

I've done exactly the same. Nothing except abstinence is 100% and for a quid it's worth it for peace of mind!

Mrsphilmiller · 14/06/2025 17:21

Just buy the fucking test and tell us what it says 🤣

helpmebudget · 14/06/2025 17:29

I tested before I was due because I just felt different. Got a Poundland test and it showed positive straight away.

I have all three times I've conceived my children.

But why? You would have had the same result a week or ten days later. But if you had a negative, you'd still test again in a week anyway.

It was nice to know and they work that early it seems! It did for me each time.

I will add that with my first I was in disbelief at the result on my cheapie and had to then go and buy an expensive one to confirm.

babystarsandmoon · 14/06/2025 17:37

I never see the point unless your period is late. Get a £1 pack.
