Would you waste money on a pregnancy test in this situation ?

This could be a pregnancy thing ( very unlikely ) or more likely a hormones thing.

I am 39, two kids.

My period is due and reasonably regular. Between 28-33 days.

Today is day 29 and it’s expected tomorrow. However it could also be further away if that makes sense.

I have had very very mild spotting and very very mild cramping since yesterday.

for the last 5 years, I’ve not had this kind of spotting. Usually, my period just starts.

I very much doubt I am pregnant. But I wonder if peri menopause can start this way ? I don’t think I’m going to waste my money on a test.

But why? You would have had the same result a week or ten days later. But if you had a negative, you'd still test again in a week anyway.

The reason I tested was that if it came up positive then I preferred to start my thought process of what I would do as it was unplanned and definitely not a good time. A week of not knowing was not appealing to me. Plus it cost me a pound.

Because they work that early so why wouldn't you off you suspect it / need to know?

Why not?

if nothing else, because of the high risk of very early miscarriage, sometimes called "false positive" - it was a positive, it just didn't stay that way unfortunately.

It's a long process, if you start obsessing about it before your periods are even due, it's not healthy. You will need more tests to confirm anyway.

People do what they want, the OP asked for opinions.

Well, the OP doesn't want to spend the money because she thinks it's more likely due to other reasons <shrug>

It isn't a false positive if it is a chemical. Personally it can be quite useful knowing if you were pregnant and then miscarry.
