(Lighthearted) My parents spare room is really hot, so I asked if they had a thinner blanket. I said I like to be covered as the monsters will get me. She says that’s rubbish!!

What about spiders and their willies? Or is that only a worry if you’ve left washing outside?

Toddlerteaplease · 14/06/2025 14:47

@BunnyRuddingtonthey don’t bother me. I leave my washing out all the time

Spiders wiping their willies on me is officially a new unlocked fear. 🫤

A cover is safer to be sure. However so long as none of your limbs hang out lower than the mattress you'll probably be ok. Monsters can only grab out from below the bed. They can't climb up so staying within the bed should keep you totally safe (I firmly believe this and have my whole 50 years)

notmyrealnameok · 14/06/2025 14:52

Agree completely also I won’t dangle my leg over the edge of the bed for the same reason 👿

Slatterndisgrace · 14/06/2025 13:25

Duh - they move though, they’re not static.

Nah- they only slide their arms out to grab your ankles.

Devilsmommy · 14/06/2025 13:10

But think about it, all those got by monsters whilst under a blanket are not here to tell the tale so🤷

I hadn’t thought of that…

YANBU - Your parents are the Monsters here!

DilemmaDelilah · 14/06/2025 19:20

I like to be covered but I also get hot. I take the duvet out of its cover and just sleep under the cover.

Yes - they are outdoors. Spiders that drag their willies are too scared of the monsters to come indoors.

CrowsInMyGarden · 14/06/2025 21:35

I think you'll be safe from monsters but the mosquitos will get you if you are uncovered.

OurChristmasMiracle · 14/06/2025 21:44

Did no one’s mum ever teach them that monsters have REALLY bad eye sight and don’t realise something is underneath a cover? Thats why ALL covers work - they can’t see you under it!

BunnyRuddington · 14/06/2025 21:46

That’s very reassuring! Thank you GrinFlowers

BunnyRuddington · 14/06/2025 21:47

Sorry I meant to quote @DonnaSueWeloveyouBlush

ApiratesaysYarrr · 14/06/2025 22:10

I've never said this on Mumsnet before but LTBs! That is shocking.

MarxistMags · 14/06/2025 22:15

What's that @BunnyRuddington ?
Spiders willies ? On my washing? Helpm'god 😲😃

Well, yes

When you leave your washing out overnight, it gets darked on and spiders drag their willies across it as they look for mates

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/06/2025 23:57

I have a monster deterrent. It's a DH. His snoring scares the monsters and they retreat.

lovemetomybones · 15/06/2025 09:32

My DH says exactly this when I don’t sleep in covers, but he made me sleep by the door so I’m the first to be hit by ghosts and robbers!

I am a veteran of the menopausal foot hokey cokey. Most important to have it "in" before I finally go to sleep, because cat with no concept of human pain generated by affectionate claws and teeth, but also (tell nobody) monsters. Or a disembodied hand like the one in a scary film I watched once. I'm 56. YANBU.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/06/2025 13:23

My cat also likes pouncing on my feet. She will not play with anything else.
