(Lighthearted) My parents spare room is really hot, so I asked if they had a thinner blanket. I said I like to be covered as the monsters will get me. She says that’s rubbish!!

Oh no I have to be uncovered. Especially when it’s hot. Even in winter I have to have a least one leg out. Quick getaway I think 😀

Strollingby · 13/06/2025 18:10

I like a cover too. A few years ago DH bought me monster repelling spray to counter my dislike of the cupboard monsters (basically wardrobe/cupboard doors have to be properly shut before I go to sleep to stop the monsters coming out). I am 59.....

AssassinsEyebrow · 13/06/2025 18:11

It never occurred to me I'd be got my monsters! I like a sheet to stop spiders molesting me though

Createausername1970 · 13/06/2025 18:13

Broccoli.

If DS ate some broccoli with dinner and we put a piece in front of his bedroom door, then the monsters would stay away.

Genius!

I'm 51 and always sleep under something (if only a sheet) for this reason.

In 51 years I've never been attacked by a monster so it obviously works.

Your mum is BVU.

😂

wizzywig · 13/06/2025 19:23

The only monsters that are dangerous are the ones who do not go to rg universities to study stem subjects. The kind that will open their front doors to STRANGERS

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/06/2025 19:34

Monsters live in wardrobes and keep their young in chests of drawers. That's why you must make sure they are properly shut before you go to bed.
It is acceptable to put your leg out of the covers, but only for use as a thermometer.

pimplebum · 13/06/2025 19:36

Cover up or else the spiders wipe their willies on you !!!

Clychaugog · 13/06/2025 19:36

The small monsters will crawl up your bum if it's left uncovered

boredoflaundry · 13/06/2025 19:38

Yup. You need to be covered. And if you need to stick a leg out, only one at a time!

PastelJumpers · 13/06/2025 19:40

Slatterndisgrace · 13/06/2025 12:05

That’s very dismissive OP. I’d probably go no contact now.

You're underreacting, @Slatterndisgrace -- the OP should clearly hire a hitman who should eyeball her mother while taking aim, hissing 'Believe in the monsters, now, Mum?'

That's demonic, but also brilliant.

You should write a parenting book. @Createausername1970.

MumbleBumbleAppleCrumble · 13/06/2025 19:44

I mean you have to be covered to be protected to the monsters, and let’s be honest, your mum knows this. So the real question is what have you done to her that means that she now wants them to get you?

DontTouchRoach · 13/06/2025 19:47

Is it weird that when I was a little kid I actually used to hope there would be monsters so I could join their monster gang and have scary monster mates?

Yes, but weird in the best way.

Mosquitos. That's why I need to be covered.

pigsDOfly · 13/06/2025 19:48

Your mum is so wrong OP.

I've covered up all my life to stop the monsters getting me. I'm 76, never been nibbled by monsters so clearly it works.

And I don't believe that it's safe to stick a leg out as some pps claim. I'd never do that, it's far too risky.

QuantumLevelActions · 13/06/2025 19:51

You have to get under the covers before you turn the lights off or the ghosts will get you.

Toilichte · 13/06/2025 19:54

Your mum is happy to sacrifice you to the monsters to keep herself safe. Terrible.

Nopenott0day · 13/06/2025 20:08

If I was you I would phone childline. I'm sure there's no upper age limit when it's abused of this level.

Eldermileniummam · 13/06/2025 20:10

Buy a sheet

EleanorReally · 13/06/2025 20:10

oh yes, need a cover!

Localres · 13/06/2025 20:20

Have you considered the possibility that your mum in, in fact, in league with the monsters?

EleanorReally · 13/06/2025 20:23

i guess she is in denial,
been got by monsters herself

itsmeits · 13/06/2025 20:24

AudiobookListener · 13/06/2025 17:40

I have a sheet over my head even on the hottest nights, otherwise "things" might crawl in my ears.

How have you survived!!! My cousin told me if you do this you die - no fresh air.
This is why every night I hope Jack Frost won't bite my nose off.
Death by your own Breath, monsters, jack frost, ear wigs. Going to bed safe is hard!!
OP I feel your pain
