(Lighthearted) My parents spare room is really hot, so I asked if they had a thinner blanket. I said I like to be covered as the monsters will get me. She says that’s rubbish!!

A blanket won't save you when you have to get out of bed during the night and the monster under the bed grabs you by the ankle.

ERthree · 13/06/2025 20:27

Your Mum should know better.

corlan · 13/06/2025 20:27

You are absolutely right about the monsters but you forget to mention that your ears must always be covered by your hair at night, otherwise earwigs crawl in your ears and build a nest.

Ricoletti · 13/06/2025 20:27

The thought of sleeping without any cover is nightmarish. Even on the hottest nights I need at least a sheet between me and the monsters. Sometimes I have my legs and lower torso out if im boiling… but always ALWAYS cover the neck and ears!!!!!

Devilsmommy · 13/06/2025 12:25

You realise a blanket is no barrier to a monster right

You’re absolutely right. Only a teddy bear is a guaranteed defence.

EleanorReally · 13/06/2025 20:30

sometimes you just have to chance getting out of bed, i find sharing a bed with a dog is a good weapon against potential monsters who might grab my ankles!

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 13/06/2025 20:49

Your Mother is one of the monsters. I think your Father may be too.
Get the sheet OP.
Get ALL the sheets.

Good luck.

My dad says monsters only get you if you are five.

He is wrong. Everyone knows a thin sheet or duvet or blanket protects from monsters.

I also cannot sleep without some sort of blanket or sheet.

Butchyrestingface · 13/06/2025 20:54

The Ankle Grabbing Monster is coming for all you false bravado, blustering types. Your little Fido won't save you then.

FusionChefGeoff · 13/06/2025 21:26

DH and I always argue about who’s going to get up and shut the en-suite door cos monsters

Toddlerteaplease · 13/06/2025 22:40

Localres · 13/06/2025 20:20

Have you considered the possibility that your mum in, in fact, in league with the monsters?

Oo No, I hadn’t. Although she’s definitely In league with my cat who is also staying. I’ve been demoted to second best human. And they are plotting.

You're being ridiculous. Everyone knows monsters live in the wardrobe and a blanket on the bed will make no difference.

Mymanyellow · 13/06/2025 18:09

Oh no I have to be uncovered. Especially when it’s hot. Even in winter I have to have a least one leg out. Quick getaway I think 😀

…from the monsters???

Genius!

Love this!

The only monsters that are dangerous are the ones who do not go to rg universities to study stem subjects. The kind that will open their front doors to STRANGERS

Open their front doors??? Surely not? They can’t be Mumsnet Monsters then!

It will - monsters are allergic to blankets, I think???

That's just my cat. Git.

Bickybics · 13/06/2025 23:45

I’m in my 50s, I am always covered when I sleep so that nosfurato (saw it when I was a kid) can’t get me. I’m still here so it proves it works!

You're trying to prevent the monsters getting you & yet you still come on Monsters Net to articulate your fears & accuse your mum (monster) of being wrong!?

They'll devour you for this... watch out OP!! ;)

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 13/06/2025 23:56

First post nails it.

Swannsee · 13/06/2025 23:57

Slatterndisgrace · 13/06/2025 12:05

That’s very dismissive OP. I’d probably go no contact now.

Exactly you need to show these mums whose boss

My dad says monsters only get you if you are five.

Your father knows nothing.

Not only do I have to have something over me in order to sleep, but the windows have to be shut to keep the monsters out.

I’m never going to be able to sleep tonight now

SameDayNewName · 14/06/2025 00:13

In all seriousness, monsters are only interested in your feet. Just make sure they're covered and you'll be fine 🙄

Butchyrestingface · 14/06/2025 00:13

Sweet dreams, y'all.
