To ask what you’d wear on express yourself day

My children’s’ school is having an express yourself day where they can wear their own clothes.

if you had to do this (mandatory, no option for getting out of it), what would you wear to express yourself for the day?

My favourite colour

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 12/06/2025 15:28

Just my normal clothes.

Createausername1970 · 12/06/2025 15:29

Pyjamas.

yourefreetodowhatyouwanttodo · 12/06/2025 15:30

Pyjamas and no bra

TheWisePlumDuck · 12/06/2025 15:30

A t-shirt with 'Fuck Off' in very large letters on it.

But I heavily dislike forced participation.

Tina294 · 12/06/2025 15:30

My normal clothes - what an odd day. I hate forced 'fun'.

outerspacepotato · 12/06/2025 15:33

All black.

I don't participate in bullshit days.

BreakfastClubBlues · 12/06/2025 15:33

My kids just choose an outfit and wear it. It doesn't have to be 'wacky' just whatever they want to wear.

Mine usually end up in a sports kit of some kind.

ShesTheAlbatross · 12/06/2025 15:34

Normal clothes

OffTheAlbum · 12/06/2025 15:38

I’d wear T-shirt with my favourite singer on.

Are they into football so they could wear a football top? A top with their favourite character on from a film or something?

I used to hate these days, they’re just a pain in the arse.

FurForksSake · 12/06/2025 15:40

I’d wear a pear of black leggings and a big T-shirt with “I started, I tried, then I forgot and walked off” written on it.

Just my normal clothes, surely every day is an express yourself day since our clothes, hairstyles, choice of shoes etc tend to express us in some ways anyway.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 12/06/2025 15:43

Jeans and a black t-shirt. I might go crazy and switch it up for a white t-shirt in the summer. I hate these things - I have no interest in distilling my personality into clothing, I just want to be warm and not naked.

purplecorkheart · 12/06/2025 15:43

Probably my normal clothes. Might pick my favorite colorful top.

FurForksSake · 12/06/2025 15:46

Usually it’s what fits, is clean and is suitable for the environment. I do not feel my clothes express who I am at all.

as a teen I was a goth and eccentric and artistic and you could probably tell that by my outfits.

in my 40s I wouldn’t wear clothes that portray that as it seems contrived and not my style. I work in wellbeing with adolescents and in my spare time I’m arty and like being outside. So in my head I should be wearing bright glasses, Lucy and yak dungarees and converse, but I’d look silly and fake. Not that any of those items are bad, just on me it would look forced.

a lot of adult dressing is more about fitting in and blending in to me. Not about being expressive and informing others about what to expect.

it have just given me pause to think about what is inportant and how and when I signal that to people.

Well, yes, most adults aren't trying to fit on an identity. They're just getting on with things. They're being artistic, not trying to signal artistic or create a fashion bat signal in an effort to find your tribe.

FurForksSake · 12/06/2025 15:58

It was just meant to be a bit lighthearted 😆

Sorry, op. I think I was triggered by the Lucy and Yak dungarees.

frozendaisy · 12/06/2025 16:06

One kid would’ve worn a t shirt with something space/physics/geek on it with tracksuit bottoms and trainers
the other football kit, or a waistcoat!

frozendaisy · 12/06/2025 16:08

Me - god knows
velvet?

DoYouReally · 12/06/2025 16:25

When I was I school it was simply called a non-uniform day.

Life was simpler then!

BoldBlueZebra · 12/06/2025 16:45

A black cloak of tears

ThreeTescoBags · 12/06/2025 16:48

Probably my ballgown (which hasn't been out of the loft for about 15 years) and my Dior high heeled shoes. I'd cut quite the dash where I work on a large scale manufacturing site in the Midlands, but fuck it, why not, these things make my heart sing 😂

GetOffTheCounter · 12/06/2025 16:55

If we had that at our school I would have worn jodhpurs a tshirt and my riding boots.

If DS1 had that day he would wear whatever made him anonymous and fade into the background.

DS2- he would wear his favourite colour and his gorillas hoodie.

Me now aged 52- anything that hid my stomach.

Yet more pressure for kids.
