To ask what you’d wear on express yourself day

My children’s’ school is having an express yourself day where they can wear their own clothes.

if you had to do this (mandatory, no option for getting out of it), what would you wear to express yourself for the day?

OP posts:
Swiftie1878 · 13/06/2025 21:15

I’d stay in bed for the day, so my duvet.

housemaus · 13/06/2025 21:15

a lot of adult dressing is more about fitting in and blending in to me. Not about being expressive and informing others about what to expect.

That seems sad to me OP. Obviously there's a time and place for certain things, but I love when people dress in what clearly makes them happy. And I wouldn't bat an eyelid at an adult in dungarees or bright glasses.

WorthySloth · 13/06/2025 21:22

My current favourite band tee shirt 😊

This. I hate fun

I would dress like Wednesday Adams

I hate fun too, but every day is a Wednesday Addams day for me.

Sortumn · 13/06/2025 21:38

As an adult I'd wear whatever I felt good in. As a schoolgirl I'd wear whatever was socially acceptable.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 13/06/2025 21:42

I also don't agree with the idea that fashion and clothing reflects your personality. It does for some people, but not most. Most of us go with the colours and cuts that are available to us, for some it's to be fashionable for the sake of it, but for many it's just that's what is there when we need something so that's what we buy.

The very concept of fashionable goes against the concept of self expression, so if I go dressed normally in my average high street but conservative clothing, I would be expressing myself as a follower, a sheep etc. Which I do not believe I am. For a tiny few this is a rare opportunity to show off the quirkiness or artistic flair but for most this is just a bullshit idea making people question themselves and how others see them.

My favourite Red Dwarf t shirt with Kryten holding up his middle finge and the slogan "Swivel on it, punk"

PickAChew · 13/06/2025 22:42

DS2 would just wear his school clothes - not strict uniform, he is severely autistic and school is school but his clothes are his clothes so he wears a version of his clothes that he wears everyday that blend with the uniform. That is expressing who he is.

fetchacloth · 13/06/2025 22:50

Normal clothes. I'm not into all this expression bullshit really 😒

My current favourite band tee shirt 😊

My favourite bit of their history was the coming together of UK music lovers to make that the Xmas No 1 against the X Factor winner (whoever that was). Felt sorry for the performer losing their "guaranteed" hit, but the message it sent very much needed to be sent.

dayslikethese1 · 13/06/2025 23:02

Why is it called express yourself day? Isn't it just non uniform day? Seems overly stressful. When younger, I dressed more to fit in and had no idea what looked good on me tbh, I enjoy clothes much more now. I'd probably wear one of my more ridiculous outfits than I can never find an occasion for. I think the me in my head is shopping for a life of amazing parties that I'm not actually living😄

Isntiticonic · 13/06/2025 23:13

Wonder woman costume and call it a day!

Swannsee · 13/06/2025 23:15

I like the idea for people that want to do it but for me normal clothes

Bonjovispyjamas · 13/06/2025 23:17

A giant cake 😁

ByMerryTiger · 13/06/2025 23:17

Lots of flowers in my hair, something short, floaty and silky, and my DMs.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/06/2025 23:17

I thought this was about breastfeeding initially.

I wear what I want everyday- wouldn't be any different.

TiredAH · 14/06/2025 00:42

Probably some leggings, a baggy tshirt, my rude mug full to the bring with a hot coffee that I’ll end up drinking cold, mismatched socks and lovely eye bags

Ponderingwindow · 14/06/2025 00:45

One of my Comicon selections.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/06/2025 00:47

My bed 😁

ToldoRasa · 14/06/2025 02:13

I don't dress how I want (lack of money and opportunity/ not outlandish enough) but if I did, I would love to wear a white billowy shirt, long jacket or cloak, tight trousers, knee high boots (a bit like the Highway man)

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2025 03:02

I’d probably pick a t-shirt with a slogan on it and match it with as many colours as possible.

Seabreeze18 · 14/06/2025 06:21

I think if I put my pride away for the day and really didn’t care what people thought I would have on a pink dress with fairy wings, flowers in my hair and sparkly face paint! Think a little girl at a party.

MarchingOnTogether · 14/06/2025 09:00

Plain black leggings and my Leeds United hoodie.
Boring maybe but its my fave hoodie and its the only thing I have thats an expression of something I like.
Oh and if it were too hot for a hoodie then I have a t-shirt that says "coffee first". That's literally my morning motto 😂

pollymere · 14/06/2025 09:49

My brother adored dressing me as a goth. He's six years older than me and I used to find it fun.

I'd have probably asked him for help and bought a black wig too... 😂

When I was at school it would've have been black jeans and the local football team's home shirt. Nowadays, I'd wear my Koi Frog Shoes with a dress.

Ironically I think the less you dress as yourself the better on these occasions. I remember Y10 on a non-uniform day looking more uniform than they ever did on a regular day.

pollymere · 14/06/2025 09:51

Ooh... My friend bought me a Pussy Galore Flying Circus teeshirt the same colour as my frog shoes... I'd wear that just because it's offensive but isn't at the same time.
