To ask what you’d wear on express yourself day

My children’s’ school is having an express yourself day where they can wear their own clothes.

if you had to do this (mandatory, no option for getting out of it), what would you wear to express yourself for the day?

My replica Aston Villa shirt from winning the European Cup, jeans, converse, my godmothers gifted dangly emerald earrings, and a set of worry beads on my wrist. And sparkly eyeshadow.

Sonolanona · 12/06/2025 22:24

Probably my beloved harem nappy trousers and a Tim Minchin T shirt. Or Sunnydale Highschool T shirt. I love my harems for at my happy place (allotment) and Tim's my favourite musician, and Buffy is still my go to show!

Summerbay23 · 12/06/2025 22:34

Literally whatever they want. I’d do jeans and t.shirt (kids would probably say joggers and t.shirt). Or shorts if warm.

My normal clothes - what an odd day. I hate forced 'fun'.

This. I hate fun

I would dress like Wednesday Adams

CharlotteStreetW1 · 12/06/2025 22:45

A crown.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 12/06/2025 22:54

If I was really being true to myself, and didn’t care about dignity and decorum, then a grotty towelling bathrobe and nothing else

RobertaFirmino · 12/06/2025 22:57

Express yourself? Madonna or NWA?

NeedToKnow101 · 13/06/2025 17:00

My suffragette scarf or an Adult Human Female t-shirt (if I had one)

JustMeHello · 13/06/2025 17:04

I've noticed that when I'm stressed or overloaded, I live in plain black trousers and plain black tops. Then when I'm feeling more relaxed and unstressed, I wear loads of colour, especially rainbows, colourful Dr Martens, swirly skirts, bright stripes, that sort of thing.

Y2ker · 13/06/2025 17:59

Get a plain white t shirt and some fabric paints and let her do what she wants.

(I would wear a Pulp t shirt)

Zumbador · 13/06/2025 18:09

A Vivienne Westwood dress. My life doesn’t have times where this is doable.

Misfiteverywhere · 13/06/2025 18:41

When I was at school- Probably jeans, t-shirt and trainers or something that wouldn’t make me stand out.

now- something comfortable like leggings and a tunic if going out, PJs if staying at home.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 13/06/2025 18:47

@TheWisePlumDuck has nailed it.

Also, whatever I wore there would be big pockets and I would have very comfy shoes.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 13/06/2025 18:48

Also something homemade - I like knitting and making jewellery...

Saracen · 13/06/2025 19:45

I'd go full-on hippy, and definitely barefoot.

Bushmillsbabe · 13/06/2025 19:54

My kids have worn Rainbow/Brownies/Beavers uniforms, sports kits, dance kit, Bluey PJ'S, Christmas clothes, Frozen princess.
Their school went one step further, they had to produce a poster/craft or similar explaining why they chose that to wear. I don't mind the dressing up bit, but the associated craft activity is a bit annoying

I would wear PJ'S to signify that I love my sleep.

TheWisePlumDuck · 12/06/2025 15:30

A t-shirt with 'Fuck Off' in very large letters on it.

But I heavily dislike forced participation.

Exactly this, and I think half my team would wear the same!

ObtuseMoose · 13/06/2025 20:29

I absolutely hate fun of any kind, I'd wear a shroud and my best mardy arse face.

Commonsense22 · 13/06/2025 20:47

This has so much potential to go wrong.

I'm imagining political statements, offensive language....

The idea of a music themed t-shirt was good. My DC would be in peppa pig or paw patrol stuff but they are small.

Cherrysoup · 13/06/2025 20:50

I have a t-shirt that says ‘Shut up. No-one cares.’ Wore it on non-uniform day at school.

BuddhaAtSea · 13/06/2025 20:50

Tailored navy dress, Chie Mihara shoes.

pizzaHeart · 13/06/2025 21:04

Today me - Jeans and a bright coloured tshirt (no slogans), trainers
Older teen me - mini skirt, a men style shirt, black high heeled boots, black tights.

Older teen DD - black leggings and a tshirt with healthy/ optimistic style slogan, trainers.
DH : jeans and a tshirt (plain coloured, the one which was the closest when he opened wardrobe)

amgine · 13/06/2025 21:06

Starfleet uniform… if I was to be really true to myself.

but I’m not that brave so a Star Trek T shirt is about as far as I will go.

JackJarvisEsq · 13/06/2025 21:11

Sorted

To ask what you’d wear on express yourself day
JaceLancs · 13/06/2025 21:13

Bright yellow (my favourite colour) and some fabulous shoes
