Day out yesterday, historical seaside town with various lovely view points. DP a bit grumpy all day and not paying a lot of interest to anything. Anyway, at one particular location I asked him what he thought of the view and he said ‘not great really….hang on, it’s just got a lot better now’ just as an attractive woman walked past, and he joked about her bum being the highlight of his day so far.

A bit disrespectful, surely? I told him to shut up and he said I should lighten up and ‘have a laugh’

Can’t lie if that was my husband I think I’d have shoved him in the nearest lake/river or into the ocean.

Was it said in a joking way.

You're joking yourself right? In what world is it a joke to say to your partner how the view has improved because a woman has appeared AND then to comment on her "arse"? . I can see this comment being made amongst a couple of men - rightly or wrongly - but a man saying this openly to his sexual /romantic partmer? Just no

Women say it too.

Does nobody have a sense of humour any more?

Some of the replies are utterly ridiculous.

But the most ridiculous thing of all is the original post - the poor guy sounds bored to his back teeth being forced to be interested in things that he will never find interesting, all to suit his wife - why drag him along in the first place?

You know he could have used his big boy words and said no if he didn’t want to go?

But then other men wouldn't be able to hold her accountable for his happiness.

Is it just me or does the number of male apologists/excusers on MN seem to have shot up lately?

Are they male or female?

I suspect a fair few of them are male and yes lots of misogynists around in AIBU in particular

Of course not we have a laugh sometimes we are with friends and we are all the same.
Men and women will say it not all but some do.
No ill manners in it i dont see the problem tbh this thread is nuts.

So if you were out for a nice day with your boyfriend and he spent it sulking and being a bit of dick, then made a sexual renark about another woman, you'd find it hilarious would you? None of that would be a problem for you?

Bbq1 · 12/06/2025 19:18

Women say it too.

Not the women I know, but even if some do, it's not as bad (although still not good) commenting among a group of women:as it is saying it to your sexual partner. I used the male example because that's what we are talking about .A woman who comments crudely on other mens bodies and their sexual attraction to her partner is just as disgusting as a man who does it

That was obvious! Anyone who thought the ‘joke’ was funny had to be a man.

Is it the first time he’s made comments like that? Why would he think that was ok?

My wife laughed. but then she has a sense of humour, like the vast majority of my female friends.

So you’re quite wrong I’m afraid.

Just a shame that you also describe her as dead below the waist (or was that you joking?)

Such a male thing to think that if someone doesn’t find the exact same things funny as you, that they have no sense of humour.

You’re confusing me with someone else, I said no such thing - my wife is gorgeous, we couldn’t be happier.👍
