To get most of Dds presents from Temu

DoesntlistentoawordIsay · 11/06/2025 15:19

Dd will be 7 soon.
In past years we’ve probably spent 2-300 on presents, cake etc. She’s normally had a big, main present-new bike, trampoline, then smaller presents
There doesn’t seem to be one big one this year that she wants. Everything she seems to ask for is very basic things that I could get from Temu. She also wants some spending money to shop and choose a few bits herself.
She’s enjoyed her toys over the years, but it does feel like Ive maybe wasted money when I didn’t need to a bit

Temu/shein stuff is generally really good IME, I've had a few where something daft has arrived e.g. a tiny throw - obvs I didn't check the dimensions.

I'd say it's perfect for a 7 yo who likes lots of little bits to unwrap.

Pointless asking a bunch of stuck up snobs on here OP. It’s no different to buying stuff from anywhere else.

I think the post is a wind up tbh. Looks like it's worked.

Eh? 🫣

NuffSaidSam · 11/06/2025 16:19

YANBU to spend less, but do it by buying less not by buying lots of cheap crap.

It's better for everyone (and the environment) to buy fewer good quality things than an excess of tat.

mangonut · 11/06/2025 16:23

pimplebum · 11/06/2025 15:40

agree

you are supporting child abuse

also £2-300 on a 7 year old !! Fuck me what are you going to do for her 21st!!!

It’s really not a lot if you buy one big present too, like a trampoline.

Cynic17 · 11/06/2025 16:26

Obviously not, for all the ethical reasons already mentioned.
Getting small things from charity shops would be much better.
And spending £300 is a huge amount for a 7 year old - just get a couple of nice, good quality items. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, why not take her to a theatre show or sports event she would enjoy? Kids just don't need piles of crap.

Well, it is.

It's not hard to source goods from uk based companies that don't routinely employ slave labour to create knock-off goods that don't adhere to uk safety standards.

I mean, you can not give a shit about all of that, but let's at least go into it with the facts.

Comedycook · 11/06/2025 16:32

I assume most stuff we buy comes from places with less than ideal working conditions....unless they specifically state otherwise. Just buy them whatever you want to get them op. Don't worry about it.

Comedycook · 11/06/2025 16:33

I also feel like issues like these are up to governments round the world to deal with...not me as an individual

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/06/2025 16:34

Please don't buy from Temu.

A lot of their designs and products are stolen from small businesses. There are multiple stories all over social media and in the news about this.

Why would you want to finance a company who steals so much from others?

What an appalling attitude! Fuck everyone else, eh, just do what you want. Child slaves? Pff, who cares.

Absolutely. Stuck up snobs giving a shit about less fortunate people, what utter cunts.

ChopstickNovice · 11/06/2025 16:40

What I'd like is a way to know that something hasn't been bought off Temu and is then being sold on. At a craft fayre last week and so much of the stuff looks exactly like Temu crap that Facebook ads push on me, except it's obvs about 10 times the price. Do I straight up ask if it's handmade by them?

The op is one person...what she does or doesn't do will make no difference. It's up to governments worldwide to legislate and then uphold the law. I assume most of the cheap goods we get online or in shops have come from places with working practices we'd be uncomfortable with.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 11/06/2025 16:44

Yes, it's absolutely appropriate to celebrate your child by supporting child slavery. What little girl could ask for more?

Blackdow · 11/06/2025 16:45

It’ll be shit versions of everything which will fall apart within weeks. Why waste your money! Just buy less but better from somewhere reputable.

ToothpasteA · 11/06/2025 16:46

Yes my daughter loves temu

PurpleChrayn · 11/06/2025 16:46

I’ve got most of DD’s 5th birthday presents from Temu.

BabyDoge · 11/06/2025 16:47

I voted YABU, because DM gets all our DC presents from Temu and they're broken in 5 minutes. I've told her so many times just to get them one quality £20 gift, rather than 20 £1 gifts from Temu, but she never listens.

toadinthebucket · 11/06/2025 16:48

OP is just one person who supports child slavery. Again, dreadful attitude. Maybe if less people thought like you, less people would buy tat from Temu and they'd disappear.

Ponderingwindow · 11/06/2025 16:48

Get her some decent quality small bits and bobs.

Stellaris22 · 11/06/2025 16:52

So your answer is to buy cheap rubbish made by child labour? But hey, it’s not your kid in a sweet shop.

Of course it makes a difference. If people stop buying cheap shit from Temu, they'll stop supplying it. If there is no demand for something, there is no reason for anyone to make it in the first place.

But it's much easier just to make excuses and carry on regardless, isn't it.
