To ask for breakfast suggestions without eggs or avocado

Tooearlytothink · 11/06/2025 15:02

I’m stuck in a rut of eating high sugar foods/snacks and need to kick this. I find if I start the day with something lower sugar it’s easier to avoid getting into that loop. However it is so hard to find breakfast suggestions that are low sugar (and ideally high in protein) without it involving eggs and/or avocado. Oh or overnight oats. What do you have?

I meal prep: full fat Greek yoghurt, frozen berries and cherries, chia seeds. So good and keeps me full til lunch

NachoChip · 11/06/2025 15:55

I was reading an article about what nutritionists have for breakfast and I was really surprised that one of them had cheese on sourdough

Mushrooms on toast (with a bit of bacon thrown in if you’ve got some). Just cook some sliced or chopped mushrooms with plenty of pepper and a bit of salt. Stir in a bit of cream or creme fraiche at the end to coat. If it’s a bit runny I add in a sprinkle of thickener. Serve on hot wholemeal toast.

This sounds delicious!

Hi. This is what I have.

Firstly I fast from dinner the night begins until 12 noon. Then I pour 1cm of porridge into a bowl and moisten it with water, not milk. Then I slice a banana on top and put in some berries. Then 3 dessert spoons of Greek yogurt and a handful of nuts.

Good for low blood sugar, fibre and nutrients. I developed a hemorrhoid and it was horrible and it has completely gone now. I am flat stomached and slim at 50.i swear it is down to the porridge.

you're slim because you barely eat for most of the day!!

Liveafr · 11/06/2025 16:00

Ful mesdames. You can find it canned in middle eastern stores or you can easily make it yourself in batch, freeze and defreeze a small portion the night before It's a bit long to make but most of it is hands off slow cooking. And it's delicious 😋

banana & peanut butter on a bagel or toast
smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel

2 Marlboros and 3 espressos. Grin

That was my breakfast for the entirety of my twenties - except for winter morning when there would be a 6.30am hot steak and kidney pie from the bakery by Epsom station.

I was also eight and a half stone.

Not sure healthy eating is always as good for the figure...

Mauvehoodie · 11/06/2025 16:08

Chia seeds, full fat greek yoghurt, vanilla protein powder and a few blueberries or strawberries mixed together (add some milk if it's too thick), leave in the fridge to thicken up for 1/2 hr or overnight. Omit chia seeds if you don't like the texture and you could sprinkle nuts on top. Keeps me full for ages.

Sausages/bacon and grilled tomatoes or fried mushrooms or you could stick it all in the air fryer if you have one.

My super quick breakfasts are 2 babybel cheeses or a handful of nuts.

redboxer321 · 11/06/2025 16:10

Mashed banana with seeds, nuts, a little coconut cream and some hemp protein powder or similar on toast is a good one.
Or scrambled tofu with chickpeas, green peas and spring onions on toast is another when I can be arsed.

Why not cut out breakfast altogether? Fasting for a bit each day helps control blood sugar.

I didn't used to have breakfast, but I now have to take medication in the morning & not on an empty stomach 🙄 so that's fucked that!!

@Tooearlytothink i have a protein yogurt it's easy enough to eat quickly, enough for my medication & a reasonable amount of protein. Its functional not fun!

Yorkshiremum80 · 11/06/2025 16:15

I have fruit and greek yoghurt with a sprinkle of sugar free muesli for crunch. My husband makes overnight oats, he does 4 days worth in advance with frozen fruit and keeps them in the fridge.

Sauvignonblanket · 11/06/2025 16:18

0% Greek yoghurt, vanilla protein powder, chia, sunflower and pumpkin seeds plus mashed blueberries or grated apple

Hummussapiens · 11/06/2025 16:19

Savoury porridge with ramen broth, miso paste, chilli oil and spring onions topped with peanuts

spoonbillstretford · 11/06/2025 16:20

Bio & me granola, Skyr vanilla yogurt, defrosted frozen berries.

AliasGrape · 11/06/2025 16:21

I tend to not eat till 12ish these days, but if I’m particularly hungry I will have breakfast. Usually Greek yoghurt as has been suggested, with berries and I add nut butter, seeds etc, whatever is around.

I also will have a mint or ginger tea with a dose of the nutrition geeks collagen stirred in. I’m not convinced of the purported benefits honestly but I keep going regardless. And it does have a lot of protein if that matters to you.

Other ideas -

Beans on toast, maybe sausage with it - ger the chicken sausages if you’re worried about calories

You could make pancakes without eggs - cottage cheese, flour and whatever additions you fancy, maybe berries, or add some spices/ grated veg. Disclaimer I’ve not tried this, it’s on my
list to try one day after seeing some recipes online!

You could spread cottage cheese or ricotta on sourdough or whole grain toast and top with tomatoes/ spinach/ sautéed mushrooms or peppers - whatever you fancied

Chia pudding - it’s a bit like overnight oats I guess but soak chia seeds in your choice of milk and some squashed raspberries overnight. Add a tiny bit of honey/ maple syrup if you don’t mind a little sugar or skip if you want to avoid altogether. Squeeze of lemon juice. Serve in the morning with Greek yoghurt or quark. Used to make this for DD and was surprised how much I enjoyed to too.

If you’re not into overnight oats you might like baked oats instead? My recipe uses egg but there’s egg free recipes out there.

Chemenger · 11/06/2025 16:23

I have muesli with plain yogurt. I find granola too sweet and I hate porridge. It’s very difficult to find muesli that doesn’t have dried bananas or dried raspberries, both of which are the work of the devil.

Unfortunately I don’t like salmon or peanut butter either which is a shame as they both seem to be popular. Lots of good ideas already though, thank you. Need to get more organised with having fruit washed & ready as yoghurt & fruit is such a quick one to throw together & eat while getting DCs ready. And banana on toast (minus the peanut butter) does also sound good. Might make it a banana sandwich, think it was the 90s I last had one of those!

Frozen fruit!

OffTheAlbum · 11/06/2025 16:43

I like yoghurt and a Weetabix. Or I got some no added sugar oat/ seed/ fruit mix and a very small bit of milk to moisten it a bit

MintChocCat · 11/06/2025 16:54

Weetabix, porridge, overnight oats

I'll have the same, but with fresh fruit. Often I'll grate a bit of dark chocolate on top, or add chopped mixed nuts ( they keep well in the fridge) or some cinnamon or nutmeg.
Occasionally, all of the above!

I've also been known to have soup for breakfast, or just dinner leftovers.

Or (don't laugh) chopped up salad with tinned fish ie mackerel/sardines/ tuna.

worrisomeasset · 11/06/2025 17:32

I go to work and don’t have time for breakfast in the morning. I have to leave for work at about 7:30 am and having breakfast would mean getting up stupidly early. I also have no wish to eat at such a ridiculously early hour. It’s a nice mug of tea (no sugar) then off to work. It suits me fine, no breakfast means no calories and no blood sugar spike. And the “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” claim is complete and utter bullshit.
