To ask for breakfast suggestions without eggs or avocado

I’m stuck in a rut of eating high sugar foods/snacks and need to kick this. I find if I start the day with something lower sugar it’s easier to avoid getting into that loop. However it is so hard to find breakfast suggestions that are low sugar (and ideally high in protein) without it involving eggs and/or avocado. Oh or overnight oats. What do you have?

Bacon sandwich is an obvious one. You could do the fry-up without eggs as well, they're not legally required. Bacon/sausage/tomato/beans/potato/fried bread/black pudding/white pudding/mushrooms is enough of a meal for breakfast.

Unfortunately I don’t like salmon or peanut butter either which is a shame as they both seem to be popular. Lots of good ideas already though, thank you. Need to get more organised with having fruit washed & ready as yoghurt & fruit is such a quick one to throw together & eat while getting DCs ready. And banana on toast (minus the peanut butter) does also sound good. Might make it a banana sandwich, think it was the 90s I last had one of those!

Protein yoghurt with fruit ( strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, blueberries, satsuma) and chia/ pumpkin seeds.
Rye bread and mushrooms/ tomatoes fried in low cal spray.
Seeded protein bagel with scrambled eggs.
Boiled eggs and soldiers.
Thanks, I'm hungry now🤣

Homemade granola bars. I make a batch of 16 and wrap them individually in foil. Portable if needs be. Good with a mug of tea.

BeRoseSloth · 11/06/2025 15:31

Mushrooms on toast (with a bit of bacon thrown in if you’ve got some). Just cook some sliced or chopped mushrooms with plenty of pepper and a bit of salt. Stir in a bit of cream or creme fraiche at the end to coat. If it’s a bit runny I add in a sprinkle of thickener. Serve on hot wholemeal toast.

Live yoghurt - Greek is good with nuts and seeds (and berries if some sugar allowed).
kippers
rolled / rough oats
any high protein low sugar meal, such as fish and veg, meat and veg could be eaten at breakfast. Doesn't have to be the traditional foods

Lifeofthepartay · 11/06/2025 15:32

Salmon and Philadelphia bagel
Cottage cheese with fruit
Greek yogurt (I like the full fat with mango or berries)
Courgette and cheese quesadilla filled with rocket and tomatoes
Sausage muffin or bagel

I make a batch of these and freeze them and have one a day. Really easy to make and keep me full till lunch with a milky coffee (although I make 11 not 12 so they are a little bigger). They only take a few minutes to make.

I love a mushroom pancake in the morning - and it's perfectly possible to make the pancake without eggs - sometimes I give the pancake itself a punch of flavour by liquidising Rocket and fresh herbs into the batter, or including a nut butter or tahini, but any mix of flours (I prefer 50:50 plain wheat flour and corn flour but you can use buckwheat or chickpea flour if you like them) will do - with a bit of fat (not too much obv) and enough liquid (water, milk, oat or other milk-substitute) to make for a creamy liquid consistency. If it sticks to the pan, you needed a little more fat. If it doesn't flip properly you either needed more gluten (or other stickiness) or you just need to pour a little thicker. I fry up the mushrooms first in 1cal spray and then set them aside and make the pancake quickly in the same pan before they cool down

Do you mean porridge or oats? Do you make porridge first then add everything?

Sorry, oats yes.

My19thNervousNameChange · 11/06/2025 15:45

2 Marlboros and 3 espressos. Grin

Summerisere · 11/06/2025 15:46

Cream cheese and cucumber in a thin toasted seeded bagel.

Afewtimesagain · 11/06/2025 15:47

Tofu scramble, either with added veggies or on toast. Tofoo does one that's not bad, I prefer making my own though.

Re"fried" beans on toast, just black beans heated a little stock, some chilli & garlic powder and paprika, once boiled mash with potato masher to desired consistency. Surprisingly tasty. Optional to top with tomato and or watercress. Freezes well.

I love chilli, garlic, soy sauce rice for breakfast. I make it in large batches and freeze portion sizes so all I have to is defrost and heat, in my house it's called breakfast rice.

Last nights leftover for breakfast.

Beans on toast. Retro classic!

BigDahliaFan · 11/06/2025 15:48

I find dark rye bread keeps me very full - we've got a local bakery that makes sourdough rye. I buy it slice it and freeze it.

I'll sometimes roast some mushrooms and tomatoes at the beginning of the week and then it's quick to heat up and have with cheese or bacon.

Smoked salmon (other smoked fish), olives, cucumber, tomatoes and a bit of marmite on rye bread. Or feta instead of the fish.

Bacon on rye.

smoked salmon and cream cheese on rye or a bagel.

Beans on toast.

Peanut butter.

Summerisere · 11/06/2025 15:48

Somethimg on granary toast that you do like.

Tortielady · 11/06/2025 15:49

Cheese on wholewheat toast. My DH adds chopped up spring onion which gives it an added kick without much in the way of calories.

NewShoesForSpring · 11/06/2025 15:50

I'm out the door by 7.45 everything & i hate early morning rushing so I have porridge made with half low fat milk & half water with a sprinkle of brown sugar. Sometimes I add fruit. This week I stewed some eating apples that weren't nice to eat raw & I've added a tablespoon of that

But mostly it's plain porridge with soft brown sugar

Or sometimes I have 2 x weetabix with hot low fat milk & a small sprinkle of white sugar

I don't really bother with anything else

I adore toast with lots of butter & marmalade or good raspberry jam or nice honey but I'm losing weight so I don't have this anymore

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/06/2025 15:51

In the week I have three shredded wheat with fruit (blueberries or raspberries) as my standard breakfast. Wholemeal toast if I'm still hungry.
Weekends are a fry up.
