Came in today to an email from a parent. Student deeply upset as we did not get her flowers after she played the 'main part' in the 'show'
She is Year 7. The 'main part' she is talking about? The narrator in our form class assembly about climate change. We were on stage for 6 minutes. It's the done thing apparently- she's seen it on TikTok.
Just blast me into the sun now and be done with it.

Honestly this is why parents shouldn't be allowed to email teachers directly! There's no way that parent would have approached the teacher after school!
Not surprising though so many entitled parents and it's passing on to their children!

Orangemintcream · 11/06/2025 17:09

I would suggest a response indicating that the world is not always as we see it online - indeed a lot of it is false or played up for the camera and that this is a valuable lesson for her.

While banging my head off a wall.

Yeah... "Well done, I'm proud of you" was the response you needed there.

I did but, being old, I foolishly thought this was a good idea in addition!

To be honest, you're setting up a trail of increasingly high expectations there. What do they get for passing their degree? A house?

Neemie · 11/06/2025 17:13

@Grendel7 there is a shortage of teachers. Come join the party! If you have a degree, they’ll even pay you to train on job. You can have a nice time as well.

IPM · 11/06/2025 17:14

The parent sounds bonkers OP!

But are you not worried about being outed?

If they stumble across this thread, it'll be quite clear to them and the school that it was you who started it.

And that you called parents who buy flowers 'fuckwits'!

Not that I disagree mind 😁

aredcar · 11/06/2025 17:15

I’m so interested to see what your response was to this batshittery.

I would be tempted to write something really short with no apology whatsoever along the lines of

Dear Mrs Batshit,

Thank you for your email. As a school, we do not give flowers to children in any of our productions, be that drama productions, dance productions, music productions or short class assemblies. If you have any further concerns regarding this policy, please contact the headteacher Mrs Jones.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Smith

but also, don't buy them flowers you fuckwits

What on earth did you say?

Epidote · 11/06/2025 17:15

Reply to them in a fine manner telling that the school do not provided flower to anyone and if they have seen them is because they bought them. Not the school.

I'm old and it would never, ever have occurred to me to do something like that!

At least you didn't do it publicly

Nanny0gg · 11/06/2025 17:17

Tell them it's against school policy because allergies!

TamborineGal · 11/06/2025 17:20

FFS
Ignore, we should not encourage this madness

Springhassprungxx · 11/06/2025 17:21

Fucks sake l've heard it all now!

I haven't replied yet, I'd love to be able to send some of these responses though!

Send a link to this thread! 😂

lifeonmars100 · 11/06/2025 17:28

Was it the last night of a long running West End theatre production? 😂

Motherofacertainage · 11/06/2025 17:30

Oh FFS! Apart from anything else, we are making staff redundant at my school, no longer provide refreshments on training days and policing the use of the photocopier! Which budget does this parent think the fresh flowers should come from? I would struggle to reply to that one without my professional mask slipping a tad!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 11/06/2025 17:31

I'd just ignore it completely and let her go and take it to the class whatsapp group. Hopeflly someone will tell her she's being a tit on there.

AngelinaFibres · 11/06/2025 17:37

I was a teacher. I'm still friends with lots of people from my training cohort. We are all turning 60 this year or next year and should have another 7 years left. Not one of us is still teaching. Not one of us is sad about it. Just a massive sense of relief to be out if it.

RedhairDL · 11/06/2025 17:39

Thanks for your email. I review all messages and respond based on urgency and availability. Please allow up to 28 days for a response.

29 days later…

Hatty65 · 11/06/2025 17:40

Dear God. I'm so glad I've retired from this kind of shit.

Although I'm now sulking massively over ALL the times I did an assembly. NOT ONCE was I presented with a bouquet of flowers for it - even though I stood up in front of the WHOLE SCHOOL and talked on various topics over the years.

TheaBrandt1 · 11/06/2025 17:46

Also cut flowers are not very green are they and the play was on climate change!

Superhansrantowindsor · 11/06/2025 17:47

I wouldn’t reply. Honestly I wouldn’t waste my time on this.

HolyStyleFailBatman · 11/06/2025 17:47

I think what you did was a lovely gesture, from a loving gran

Daisydiary · 11/06/2025 17:49

Is the parent American?

Mugcake · 11/06/2025 17:52

Literally just respond

"Lol"

And leave it.
Its one thing for a 12yr old to be upset but a fully grown adult actually sending that email doesn't even deserve a response!
