Came in today to an email from a parent. Student deeply upset as we did not get her flowers after she played the 'main part' in the 'show'
She is Year 7. The 'main part' she is talking about? The narrator in our form class assembly about climate change. We were on stage for 6 minutes. It's the done thing apparently- she's seen it on TikTok.
Just blast me into the sun now and be done with it.

Oh I have an idea!

Dear ms batshit ,

the tradition is the TEACHER receives the bouquet as a thank you for all our hard work and extra time, I have a penchant for orchids !

love and mwah kisses

Ms fart

Yes, definitely this!!!

ThriveIn2025 · 11/06/2025 15:59

I could write a book of similar stories. Sadly not that unusual these days. Can AI draft a response for you?

Rinkali · 11/06/2025 16:00

Dear Matilda Batshit

As Milly-Rae will know from her narration, the assembly was to highlight the climate crisis we face today, and given that flowers are a controversial contributor to that crisis - air miles, water consumption, etc - it would have been profoundly problematic to reward her efforts with a floral tribute.

I hope she’ll be happy with the environmentally safe thumbs up we all gave her magnificent speaking.

best regards

don't be so fucking stupid, its hay fever season

Meadowsweet25 · 11/06/2025 16:01

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your feedback about our class assembly on climate change.

You have helped me realise that, in our work on the project, we didn't examine the impact of heating and transport in the cut-flower industry and their consequential contribution to climate change. If your daughter would like to research this as an enrichment activity in her own time, I'm sure we could find a way to enable her to share the work with her classmates.

As the teacher responsible however, I do feel very relieved that words such as 'thank you' and 'well done' have a zero carbon footprint and are free.

Yours etc

I had a father complain once that there was no birthday cake for his son. I will cut and serve a cake that parents bring in for a birthday, and I thought that was what he meant. I spebt the better part of my spare lesson the next morning trying to find what could have happened to the missing cake before I figured out that no. I was complaining that I hadn't personally baked or purchased a cake for his child.

Christ!!!! That's so entitled!!!!!

SoMauveMonty · 11/06/2025 16:02

I'd be tempted to reply either

"oh dear, how sad, never mind" or "thoughts and prayers"

MyDeftDuck · 11/06/2025 16:02

I would far sooner the school spend their budget on learning resources than bloody flowers ffs!

Kingsleadhat · 11/06/2025 16:03

Do you get flowers for playing the main part of a teacher who doesn't want to strangle idiotic parents?

hellohellooo · 11/06/2025 16:05

That's such an insult

I worked so hard in my first year of teaching

Tried to be the kindest
Fairest
Hardest working teacher ever

One parent went nuclear because I did not make enough of a fuss over a media her daughter got at gymnastics

I bloody did make a fuss

I hated teaching
I lasted three years

Lovely students but my god the nonsense surrounding that profession 😡😡😡😡😡

evtheria · 11/06/2025 16:07

😂 Wtf? Wow… I feel bad (for you) but I find this so funny.

Justgorgeous · 11/06/2025 16:08

Ban social media and actually ban most parents.

Sunshineandoranges · 11/06/2025 16:10

thank goodness no emails when I was teaching. I can remember a handful of stupid parent comments in a very long and enjoyable teaching career. You have to have a thick skin in teaching nowadays. But remember the lovely children and ignore the foolish parents.

poetryandwine · 11/06/2025 16:15

I usually feel bad for the OP when the tabloids pick up a thread.

If OP doesn’t mind, I think this could be the basis of a rather amusing one, whilst also increasing well deserved sympathy for teachers.

greengreyblue · 11/06/2025 16:17

What? Is this child ND? If so I understand but I’m presuming the parents isn’t.

Soooo glad I’ve retired!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 11/06/2025 16:21

I can well believe this. Just look at the fuss in the media whenever year 11s are banged from their prom on account of behaving like little shits.

My favourite ever response to a complaint is;

"Oh dear. Tell you what, write it on a piece of paper, put it an envelope, tear it up, and shut your face."

Ibelievetheworldisburningtotheground · 11/06/2025 16:22

This is where "I'm sorry you/she feels that way." is the simple answer.

Idiots.

Speaking as a primary school teacher... GOOD LORD.

I hope you replied with something along the lines of:
"Hi Parent,
I'll assume this is a joke. Our "6-minute-show-flower-budget" is, not unreasonably, zero.
All the best,
You."

Summercocktailsgalore · 11/06/2025 16:29

I wonder if this student will give your flowers at the end of year for teaching them?

I think not!

my response would be:
no one child is singled out
the school budget does not allow for purchasing individual students flowers
i do not personally spend my salary on one student

Lollylolo · 11/06/2025 16:31

How are you going to reply OP? This is top level bat-shittery if I ever did hear it!

Itallcomesdowntothis · 11/06/2025 16:35

LittleBitofBread · 11/06/2025 14:21

I'd be tempted to ignore it too, but worried that they might escalate it.

How about.

Thank you for your email which I read with great interest.

Kind regards.

Thats it.

Happyher · 11/06/2025 16:35

Just email back and say the parents usually buy them. The school has no funds for such inessentials. Guilt trip the mum!
