Came in today to an email from a parent. Student deeply upset as we did not get her flowers after she played the 'main part' in the 'show'
She is Year 7. The 'main part' she is talking about? The narrator in our form class assembly about climate change. We were on stage for 6 minutes. It's the done thing apparently- she's seen it on TikTok.
Just blast me into the sun now and be done with it.

Dear god someone's little darling is going to be in for a shock later in life then 😳😳 I'd be telling her to get in the real world for once

WomenInSTEM · 11/06/2025 14:14

Dear God.

So glad I left when I did.

crumblingschools · 11/06/2025 14:16

I despair!

Imadesomething · 11/06/2025 14:16

😂

Murdoch1949 · 11/06/2025 14:17

God almighty. That is a parent talking through the child. What Yr 7 child would even think, why didn't I get a bouquet? I'll tell her why she didn't get a bouquet, because she's not Dame Kiri ti Kanewa (sic) or Rudolph Nureyev. I've never seen an actor get a bouquet on Drury Lane let alone at King Street Seniors!

Whatafustercluck · 11/06/2025 14:17

This is one of the weirdest things I've read on here. And there have been a few.

WimpoleHat · 11/06/2025 14:18

Unless she’s a prima ballerina who’s just performed a leading role at one of the leading opera houses in the world, it’s not the “done thing” at all. Anywhere! And I’m a very regular theatregoer….. How ridiculous!

Drummend01 · 11/06/2025 14:18

Absolutely ridiculous and as a parent I’d be embarrassed to bother a teacher about this. I want to write F off but what I would actually reply is something like…

we’re so pleased that your daughter had the opportunity to take on the lead role in our production, she did a wonderful job. We’re proud of all students who contributed to making the production such a success

with regards to the flowers, I understand her expectations if it is something she’s seen online, however as a school we don’t have the tradition of giving individual gifts for specific roles. We aim to celebrate all students equally and fairly as every role is just as important.

thank you for understanding, we hope your daughter knows how valued her efforts are throughout the play.

I'm not in the Drama Department at my school, but they do have a lot of people arriving with flowers for their kids now after a show

I used to work at a theatre school and we had some dramas but I never met anyone who expected this. Is it the first time she's ever had a speaking part in anything ever and it's gone to her head? Or has this actually come from the mum and the kid doesn't really care perhaps?

TheCaloricDecline · 11/06/2025 14:19

ODG.

I'm so happy I am out of teaching.

Precious parents.

Flightsoffancy · 11/06/2025 14:20

Oh man. I'm sorry. I'm also a teacher and this one takes the biscuit! At least you can enjoy telling people about it for years - and so will I! Please put a huge bunch of flowers on your own desk tomorrow morning and say they were given to you by someone who appreciated all your main character work every day!

Itallcomesdowntothis · 11/06/2025 14:20

What the actual fuck? All
power to you in how you respond politely and professionally to that email. I would personally ignore it.

There are some seriously entitled people in the world and this one might take the cake?

Sounds like mum should have bought the flowers then. Where the heck does she think the "flower budget" is at a school?!

I'd be tempted to ignore it too, but worried that they might escalate it.

Yeah exactly, parents arriving with flowers for their kids. If you want your kid to have flowers then buy them flowers, why is it the schools responsibility?!

I would love to see a copy of that reply. A true test of diplomacy.

Takeoutyourhen · 11/06/2025 14:22

Maybe mum got an earful from daughter about not getting flowers from her and mum is deflecting this nonsense onto the school.
Was it standing ovation worthy?

HatsOffToThePigeons · 11/06/2025 14:22

Dear FlowerMum,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will of course rectify it immediately. Here are DD's flowers >> 💐
Please print them out and put them in a vase immediately to keep them fresh.
Yours sincerely,
Teacher

crumblingschools · 11/06/2025 14:24

There will be a sad face photo in the Daily Mail

IdaGlossop · 11/06/2025 14:24

The best example I have seen recently of parents being the main reason I did a PGCE then decided teaching wasn't for me. What a silly parent for not seeing her job was to surmise for her DD why she hadn't been given flowers and that Tik Tok isn't real life.

Drummend01 · 11/06/2025 14:25

Fstt1978 · 11/06/2025 14:21

Yeah this pamper parenting is beyond a joke now. My DSD asked if her dad could get her a Starbucks gift card as a well done present after her mock sats as that’s what her friends got. Needless to say it was a firm no and followed by some words around gratefulness.

Todayisaday · 11/06/2025 14:28

Urrrgggh I am not a teacher but I would love to slap this parent with a wet fish.
Some people are just fucking idiots. Why are there so many of them? How did they get to be so ridiculous?
Sorry OP, this stuff makes me mad. Not all us parents are like this. I have a year 7 and if he was upset aboht this and tried complaining to me I would slap him with a wet fish too😂
