To ask how much debt you have?

Where it is from, and if you're paying it off?
Does it worry you?
I have 500 on a CC, 500 on a personal loan, about 300 on an Argos card and 300 to a Monzo overdraft.

I also have my mortgage and student loan but not counting!
The above figures are what I've got it down to now and what's left to pay off.

No debt other than mortgage and student loan. Student loan should be paid off in a years time.

Wellisayohyeah · 09/06/2025 21:01

Congratulations 👏
My student loan is incredibly high. I am paying it off through my salary but don't see myself being able to fully repay it anytime soon, unless I come into money.

Just mortgage now. We did have a fairly large amount of CC debt but spent 2 years hardcore paying it off and it’s gone now. With no debt we’re now able to put £2k a month into savings.

nebulae · 09/06/2025 21:03

Car PCP only. Though I don't really class that as debt, it's more like leasing the car as I just give it back after 3 years.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/06/2025 21:03

None. I've paid off my mortgage. I'm retiring in 5 years so I can't afford to have any debt. I need to save as much as I can.

RunningNananananananananana · 09/06/2025 21:04

Not counting mortgage
£360 personal loan

Last payment next month 🥳

First time in 27 years I'll have no debt 😁

AhBiscuits · 09/06/2025 21:05

I have two mortgages. One on my main house and one on a flat that I rent out.

ungratefulcat · 09/06/2025 21:06

Oh that's very exciting 😊 I bet it will feel amazing.

Crushed23 · 09/06/2025 21:06

Just a mortgage on a property I’m currently renting out for more than the mortgage payment. Haven’t done my tax return yet, but I think I just about break even after tax.

Praying4Peace · 09/06/2025 21:08

No debt right now. But until 5 years ago I had a long standing overdraft and needed to buy goods on if.
Single parenthood etc

Same here. Four years left for us. We can’t wait to retire but also feel quick anxious about stopping saving and starting drawing it down.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 09/06/2025 21:09

A pretty small amount of mortgage left to pay. No other debt. My credit card is clear - I don't use it very often.

Radiatorvalves · 09/06/2025 21:09

65k on mortgage. Nothing else.

FedupofArsenalgame · 09/06/2025 21:09

None. Mortgage paid off and no other debts

FancyCatSlave · 09/06/2025 21:10

Excluding the mortgages, about £20k. But could pay it off tomorrow if I needed to. Good use of credit doesn’t phase me.

mrsed1987 · 09/06/2025 21:11

2k on cc (just been on maternity leave so that accounta for that) £100 on next and £100 on very. Hoping to pay it off by the end of the year.

I'm 38 and never had a CC so not too bothered!

PigFan · 09/06/2025 21:12

Zero

I'm poor so can’t afford to get into debt! I’m very risk averse so don’t even have a credit card.

ToasterFuckUP · 09/06/2025 21:12

Only the mortgage.

I don’t count student loan, I’m young enough to be on a plan that was never designed to be paid off.

Trinity69 · 09/06/2025 21:12

Mortgage, about £140k and a credit card with about £2700 left, which is down from about 12k 4 years ago. Almost seeing the light at the end of that long tunnel!

RhaenysRocks · 09/06/2025 21:13

Well into five figures on 0% credit plus mortgage. I work ft on a decent salary but it's just me and two teens are expensive. They aren't spoiled..no labels, iPhones, large allowance but I like to take them away once a year, not usually abroad though and they both do expensive hobbies. It's a calculated debt and I can downsize and pay it off in about five years when they're off and away. Life is too short to not see that amazing show or have a cinema and pizza trip that can cost £100 these days. You're a long time dead.

harrogatemumofone · 09/06/2025 21:13

Just 8 months left on mortgage (although it is fully offset, so could pay off), nothing else and would never take on debt other than (part) car finance (but that's v rare as we run our cars for years).

Temporaryname158 · 09/06/2025 21:15

£5250 loan I took out to buy a car

£56k mortgage

NDstress · 09/06/2025 21:27

Mortgage and £350 on next.
Finally paid off credit card last week!

It’s a big step, but shouldn’t scare you too much…. I’m 54 and stopped working last year. I’ve been debt, including mortgage, free for some time. The only debt I have is the regular monthly credit card balance, which is settled in full each month. What I would say about retiring and living on savings / pensions and not adding to them is that, despite the last 12 months not being great (or at least, the last 4 or 5…) from a market perspective my pensions funds are still worth more than they were a year ago, and have gone up by more than I’ve spent from non pension savings. And that’s despite a fair amount of travel and entertaining. I can’t access my pension until next year at the earliest, but Im currently thinking that 60 might be about right

I, like you, was slightly apprehensive, but so far it’s just fine. And I expect you have done far more planning than I did; I knocked up a quick spreadsheet about 2 years ago - the first time I’d ever seriously modelled what retirement might look like - and my broad brush assumptions, while miles off by category, are there or thereabouts in total. So that’s a relief!

Mortgage and I currently owe £140 on my Next account because I bought the children some clothes this weekend. I need to return a couple of things and then will pay off the balance before the end of the month.
