To ask how much debt you have?

Where it is from, and if you're paying it off?
Does it worry you?
I have 500 on a CC, 500 on a personal loan, about 300 on an Argos card and 300 to a Monzo overdraft.

I also have my mortgage and student loan but not counting!
The above figures are what I've got it down to now and what's left to pay off.

20k in credit cards/loans - a year ago it was 40k!

reckless financial decisions as a student offset by decent-paying grad role.

elliesmummy19 · 09/06/2025 21:48

No debt, no mortgage. Oh we’re paying off our bathroom monthly if that counts? Will be paid off by September though with no interest.

Car PCP only. Though I don't really class that as debt, it's more like leasing the car as I just give it back after 3 years.

Same here. It’s not a debt, it’s just the cost of motoring

GoldGoose · 09/06/2025 21:48

Even if you came in to money you'd be far better paying off mortgage or saving for retirement I'd imagine.

when this question is asked the majority of the answers will be that they don’t have debt at all.

I really dont have any debt.
Many years ago i did i swore I'd never get in debt again.

AlpacaMittens · 09/06/2025 21:49

Mortgage, for which we overpay every month.

Credit cards we have a debt of around £1,500 each. In reality we could pay it off tomorrow if we wanted to. It's mainly flights, hotels, car rental etc for our holidays - which we've put on instalments. We pay way more than the instalment amount every month so should clear soon.

Didimum · 09/06/2025 21:51

Not counting mortgage. I have £3k on a credit card. Nothing else.

Catladywithoutacat · 09/06/2025 21:51

£200 ish on sofa and gifts

Sincere apologies for the off topic but - can I ask which company you used for your bathroom please?

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/06/2025 21:52

Just the mortgage.

Ireolu · 09/06/2025 21:52

No debt but very large mortgage that keeps us on our toes.

MiddleAgedDread · 09/06/2025 21:53

£40k on the mortgage and £1200 on interest free credit card (could pay it off but savings are making more interest) to be paid off over at £100 a month over the next year. End of the mortgage is in sight!

bridgetreilly · 09/06/2025 21:55

About £2500 on a 0% interest credit card. About £500 on my normal credit card. No mortgage, car payments or student loans.

Treesinthewind · 09/06/2025 21:55

I always love these threads where people say how much they hate being in debt and would never use a credit card if they couldn’t afford to pay it off immediately. I too hate being in debt but literally have to use credit to get by month to month.

Itiswhysofew · 09/06/2025 21:57

Bloody car. Never again. I'm actuality thinking about paying it off.
Nothing else.

skippy67 · 09/06/2025 21:58

No debt at all. But I'm old.

RunningNananananananananana · 09/06/2025 21:04

Not counting mortgage
£360 personal loan

Last payment next month 🥳

First time in 27 years I'll have no debt 😁

Amazing, well done!!

iamnotalemon · 09/06/2025 21:58

Nothing now but the highest debt I had was almost £20,000!

proximalhumerous · 09/06/2025 21:59

None. Never had any, even as a student, other than my mortgage (now paid off).

well done because it is so hard! I think those with a lot don’t want to say often because the stigma attached

laclochette · 09/06/2025 22:00

£254k on my mortgage ergh. Then I have about £950 on my credit card balance this month but I'm owed some money from friends for upcoming holidays I've paid for and the odd refund so that will be paid off / eliminated soon. Otherwise I've never had any debt.

TerroristToddler · 09/06/2025 22:01

£105 on credit card which will be paid off in full at end of month - I use this card only for buying flights or paying for holiday accommodation and pay it down in full when it’s used.

Around £2.5k loan for our sofas - we only took the loan as it’s 0% interest and thought that money could earn some interest over the 4yrs by being in our account instead!

Mortgage - 27 years left but we overpay monthly plus big chunk each year so aiming to pay it off in 10.

no student loans as paid those off already.

Picklechicken · 09/06/2025 22:01

These threads always attract people who have little to no debt. Statistics have shown that most UK households have debt. So they’re not realistic.

We have no mortgage - own outright; but we do have cc debt. We always switch between 0% offers and use them for holidays usually, paying off the balance as best we can by the end of the offer. And then switch. We have £5k ish at the moment.

We are in a better position now but in the past when our household income was less we’ve had to use debt to pay for essential repairs. If you own a home and something goes wrong then you have to, you can’t just let it go to the shit if you don’t have enough or any savings (depending on what it is of course - we’ve had things like toilets cracking and leaking, a roof that needed repairing etc).

notacooldad · 09/06/2025 22:03

No debt at all.
I do have credit cards but both are at zero balance

Mortgage paid off.
All annual utilities such as water council tax car insurance and tax, household and travel insurance paid in full.

Life hasn't always been like this, I have to say.

Wowwee1234 · 09/06/2025 22:05

Just taken out a 13k loan for solar panels and battery in addition to mortgage. Hefty but hoping energy bill savings will cover most of it. No other debt.

Argos and any other credit over 10% APR is a rip-off folks btw. Go to your local credit union or FREE debt advice service and swap it to somewhere cheaper.
