Where it is from, and if you're paying it off?
Does it worry you?
I have 500 on a CC, 500 on a personal loan, about 300 on an Argos card and 300 to a Monzo overdraft.

I also have my mortgage and student loan but not counting!
The above figures are what I've got it down to now and what's left to pay off.

Nothing. No mortgage or student loan.

We save for everything & use CC to get the protection and pay it off every month.

Zezet · 09/06/2025 22:08

450.000 on a mortgage and 60.000 on a renovation loan.

MermaidMummy06 · 09/06/2025 22:10

Late 40's - none. Paid off our house a couple of years ago. I hate where we live (never wanted to live here) but moving means a new mortgage, and I enjoy being debt free.

There is a price, though. We've sacrificed a lot to get there, and are currently saving every penny to replace our old cars, then our house needs painting & will need reno's in future. I think we need a new hot water system soon, too.

We might not be paying interest, but the money still always has somewhere to go.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 09/06/2025 22:11

None. Just mortgage.

GingerPaste · 09/06/2025 22:12

None. Paid off my mortgage.

Namechangedatheist · 09/06/2025 22:12

None.
The only debt I've ever had was a mortgage.
Always paid off cards every month.
Being an old git I was brought up to regard debt as something to be avoided - so I've always saved for things I want rather than buying 'on the never never'.

Alwayyys the ones with no debt who reply!

BrunchBarBandit · 09/06/2025 22:16

About 400 on credit card but that clears each month; I just use it to keep up my credit score and to earn rewards. Otherwise no other debt, loans or mortgage.

Wadadli · 09/06/2025 22:16

You’ve done really well. Good for you

Wadadli · 09/06/2025 22:17

I have no debt as I cleared it when I took a chunk of my pension. I vowed never to have a credit card again

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 09/06/2025 22:18

None. Haven’t had any debt for about 15 years. When we were young and just starting our family, we had loans and credit cards which took us about 10 years to pay off fully.

Never again - debt scares me. I don’t owe a penny to anyone and I plan to keep it that way.

goodnightssleepbenice · 09/06/2025 22:19

£60k mortgage and £55 owed to Next . Don’t like debt .

Moveoverdarlin · 09/06/2025 22:19

Zero.

Clashofthetitans · 09/06/2025 22:20

Going to be honest and show the other side of the coin - I’m 32 and well, I have bloody loads. About £25k to be exact, split across credit cards and 3 loans. Not even sure how it got to that point. Lost a job, put a months worth of bills on and it basically spiralled. Started topping loans up to pay off cc’s, then put the money back on them. A real shit show.

2 months ago cut all cc’s up, moved to interest free ones. Thankfully in a really well paying job so aiming to be free of it in 2 years but yeah, it’s hard going sometimes. Had absolutely zero financial education, and will be making sure DD never makes the mistakes I did.

Nicepeople · 09/06/2025 21:48

I really dont have any debt.
Many years ago i did i swore I'd never get in debt again.

Same here. Will never let myself get into that mess again.

Olive567 · 09/06/2025 22:22

Early 50s, no debt, no mortgage, no loans or car payments. I do use CC but pay off every month. However, due to recent separation I will be having to take on mortgage in near future.

Toseland · 09/06/2025 22:23

None. It's not worth the stress, clear any debts as a priority.

Forthemarket · 09/06/2025 22:23

It mustn’t be something you compare. It’s all so variable. I have non but spent vast swathes of my life with lots. I never cared - as long as you have an over view/a clear plan/ or need it then it’s fine.

Definitelysometime · 09/06/2025 22:24

Huge mortgage and £20k on credit cards 😱 but we’re just finishing a house build. Still, it makes me feel sick

declutteringmymind · 09/06/2025 22:26

Stupid bloody car. It was interest free credit and I had the cash to pay for it (which I have saved and is earning interest, which makes entirely good money sense). But I despise the DD every month as it’s leaving me a little short but I am loathe to touch the savings. Can’t wait for it to finish.

sprinklesandshines · 09/06/2025 22:28

About £800

it takes a sizeable chunk off my PIP and UC per month and I ran it up on klarna and a credit card

I’ve never paid back late and have a good credit score

Lesina · 09/06/2025 22:31

£30,000 and £127000 on a mortgage. Doesn’t bother me.

AnonKat · 09/06/2025 22:31

We have 5 more payments on a personal loan we took out for home improvements. No other debt but the mortgage and student loans.

woefulliving · 09/06/2025 22:32

I recently moved and it's all cost so much more than I was anticipating, plus it happened at my quiet season at work (self employed)

£3000 on a credit card
£1000 on Very account (BNPL until March so should be cleared by then)

All pretty much furniture, flooring and just getting by.

My first mortgage payment was over double what my usual monthly cost is, my water bill is double what it should be (hoping they'll rectify that next month now June's reading has gone in) and my council tax banding for ny new build was higher than I expected

So...yeah. Just life really. Usually hate resorting to credit cards or finance but needs must

Snuppeline · 09/06/2025 22:34

Heaps of debt but then I intend to be too big for the bank to let me fail. Adding to the debt too! Mortgages and student loan. Have nearly £3 million in total. Sleep well at night and know it could all be paid back. Few years ago (about 8) I had a lousy partner (well cocklodger really) and just all bad debt. LTB and doing much better. Such fun!
