Was brought up veggie but eat fish. DM ate like this. I’ve never had a sausage, steak, bacon in my life, only accidentally tasted ham.

I have a craving for a bacon butty (not PG, just ill). They smell sooo good! But what, if anything would happen to me?

YABU- eat the damn thing, you’ll be fine and glad you did;

YANBU- your body isn’t used to it, it’s like plonking yourself in the middle of a different continent and expecting to eat the local cuisine without a bit of D and V at least. You can’t change such major dietary habits of a lifetime easily.

I did this when I was pregnant. I was fine.
I still eat a 99% vegetarian diet and intend to return to 100% veggie when my DC's leave home and I only have myself to cater for. At the moment I don't like waste (or wasting money) so I use up scraps before they go off.

Dead pigs smell so good ?

That's their downfall.

That's their downfall.

No, humans are their downfall.

No, humans are their downfall.

Well, yes and the fact they smell/taste good to humans.

OriginalUsername2 · 08/06/2025 15:15

The worst that could possibly happen is you would feel sick for a bit but I really doubt it.

I ate vegan for a couple of years and was convinced by other vegans that if I went back to meat my body would reject it. I’m pretty sure it’s a myth.

It actually felt amazing to eat some red meat when I finally went for it. Like I was being nourished.

BeMintFatball · 08/06/2025 15:18

I’m a lifelong meat eater. However I also get what I call pork overload. If I ate bacon on the first day, sausages on the second and a ham roll on the third I’d be in for a messy poo the day after.

Ellepff · 08/06/2025 15:19

Some people can have a bit and be fine, but yeah, risking a dodgy tummy.

Ideas that might help
veggie sausage on a bun
egg and smoked cheddar on a bun
smoked tofu BLT
smoked tempeh bacon is the best for me but I am in Canada with different options.

minnienono · 08/06/2025 15:20

You do what you want! But I would be gradual if introducing meat, any change of diet is difficult for our stomachs.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/06/2025 15:21

Was veggie for years (no fish either) until seriously anaemic during pregnancy. It was either red meat and supplements or a transfusion. Ate meat, no noticeable side effects.

Tina294 · 08/06/2025 15:25

I go abroad and always eat the local cuisine, only place I've had D and V was Egypt and I don't think that was due to the food being different! Eat it OP, humans have been omnivores for 2.5 million years, you'll be absolutely fine.

Shardonneigghhh · 08/06/2025 15:28

I haven't eaten meat for over 30 years. Once I accidentally ate pasta with bacon in it, and it gave me the runs really bad.

LineofTedLasso · 08/06/2025 15:35

I have been veggie since I was 15. When I was pregnant with my 2nd (at the age of 35) I had an intense craving for chicken. I ended up going to Sainsbury’s and gorging on a whole chicken from the rotisserie. No ill effects. It’s what my baby needed.

Anotherparkingthread · 08/06/2025 15:40

I was vegetarian all my life (bar the odd price of ham etc up until age 6) until I was mid 20s when I moved to a farm. Started eating meat and I was fine I did not get sick or anything.

InterestedDad37 · 08/06/2025 15:42

I eat meat, but not a lot, tbh.
Bacon is beautiful 🥓😋
Go on, you know you want to 😀

CommissarySushi · 08/06/2025 15:43

10 years vegan up until a couple of weeks ago. Zero side effects, despite not taking it slow with introducing animal products.

ForestFox44 · 08/06/2025 15:44

Ive been veggie for 8 years, craved chicken like mad this 3rd pregnancy gave in and ate it... as well as every other meat, I dont even recognise myself 🤣 anyway no side effects and the chicken was bloody divine!

God yes, beautiful! 😍

Ouzz · 08/06/2025 15:53

A bacon butty is one of life’s joys. Nice crispy bacon and lots of butter.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 08/06/2025 15:58

If you eat fish you aren't veggie anyway.

FuckityFux · 08/06/2025 16:08

DH had been veggie for over 40yrs and ate bacon as part of an Irish breakfast because he didn’t want to appear rude (!!) and he was sick as a dog for days afterwards (both ends).

In your shoes, I’d be very careful and only eat tiny amounts initially to let your stomach enzymes build up.

What made you go back? Not judging, meat lover here 😆

marshmallowfinder · 08/06/2025 16:13

You already eat flesh so aren't a vegetarian, therefore I can't see how eating bacon would cause you a problem at all!

MasterBeth · 08/06/2025 16:16

I became veggie at 19. 19 years later went back to eating meat. No adverse effects.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/06/2025 16:16

What would happen? You'd know what a bacon buttie tastes like.
