Was brought up veggie but eat fish. DM ate like this. I’ve never had a sausage, steak, bacon in my life, only accidentally tasted ham.

I have a craving for a bacon butty (not PG, just ill). They smell sooo good! But what, if anything would happen to me?

YABU- eat the damn thing, you’ll be fine and glad you did;

YANBU- your body isn’t used to it, it’s like plonking yourself in the middle of a different continent and expecting to eat the local cuisine without a bit of D and V at least. You can’t change such major dietary habits of a lifetime easily.

That's their downfall.

🤣

Listen to your body. This is why people shouldn’t be vegan/veggie. We were meant to eat meat. I know a woman who went vegan and struggled to conceive. Guess what she got pregnant right away when she started eating meat again

ElleDeeCB · 08/06/2025 16:22

I am vegetarian 99.9% of the time. But once a year I eat meat when I’m travelling to a particular country and there’s a particular dish I like on the menu. So far I’ve not had an upset stomach, and I think it’s far better for the environment and animal welfare than to never even attempt to be vegetarian because you don’t want to miss out. I don’t have cravings for meat the other 363 days of the year.

doodleschnoodle · 08/06/2025 16:26

A bacon buttie is a thing of beauty. My personal suggestion is to make sure the sides are really crispy on the bacon, that gives the best taste. Enjoy!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/06/2025 16:36

I have been veggie since I was 18, but was worried about protein intake when I was pregnant, and ate a chicken breast. I was so violently sick I tore the lining of my throat. I then spent 8 weeks in and out of hospital with hyperemisis. I had hyperemisis in my second pregnancy too, so I think the chicken/throwing up incident was coincidental, but it put me off ever trying meat again.

I'm unusual in that I hate the smell of bacon though!

Please look at the actual conditions that farrowing pigs, who are intelligent, playful and loving literally just like dogs spend every day of their tortured lives in.

The OP's happy to eat fish, so I'm not sure it'd make much difference.

Plus she's probably already had her sandwich now if she decided to go ahead.

Indeed. Could never quite understand the I’m veggie but eat the flesh of sea animals thing.
Er, no, you’re not 😁

I’m a lifelong meat eater. However I also get what I call pork overload. If I ate bacon on the first day, sausages on the second and a ham roll on the third I’d be in for a messy poo the day after.

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤣🤣🤣

Well thanks for sharing!

iliketheradio · 08/06/2025 17:34

I’ve never eaten meat in my life and honestly the smell of bacon makes me gag.

The last bit of this 😂😂😂😂 There are cultures all over the world that eat vegan/vegetarian food, do you think it really stops people conceiving?!

Dead pigs smell so good ?

I mean the dead ones I’ve butchered haven’t smelt offensive. Definitely smell good once cooked.

Openthisdoor · 08/06/2025 17:37

Never mind your stomach - think of the poor animals 😔

Dodeedoo · 08/06/2025 17:55

I see all the meat eating haters are out in full force. Such a bunch of judgemental twats!!

ThejoyofNC · 08/06/2025 18:11

It all depends on the sandwich.

Will you use back or streaky bacon?
How well done?
How many rashers?
What kind of bread?
Toasted or not?
Any sauces?

For the right combination I'd do it without a doubt, but get it wrong and you'll be sorely disappointed.

Is a meat eating hater a person who eats meat and hates people or a person who hates people who eat meat? 🤔

Just trying to work out who the twats are? 👍🏻

Womanofcustard · 09/06/2025 19:10

OP have you tried Quorn bacon? Smells and tastes like pig bacon, a bit thinner. Nothing nasty in it and no cruelty to poor pigs involved.

Womanofcustard · 09/06/2025 19:11

Also Richmond do meatless bacon, a bit thicker than Quorn.

UndermyShoeJoe · 09/06/2025 19:12

Someone did tell me Richmond bacon is a bit flavoured like ribs.

However if op craves meat that’s like giving someone an orange who wants a chocolate cake.

Or... empathetic people who stopped looking the other way at the fact that we now produce meat like it's plastic rather than creatures who feel physical and psychological pain exactly like the pets we love - and couldn't continue to participate, even though they love the taste and it's much, much easier to eat meat than be vegan?

If you wouldn't keep your dog or cat in a cage so small it can't turn around, stealing its babies over and over and over again, so that every day, month, year is torture until they are actually better off dead - then please, don't eat meat.

I don't have a dog or a cat.

Haveanaiceday · 11/06/2025 10:51

Leaving aside the moral issues I have heard that it can be hard to digest meat if you haven't eaten it for a long time .

Dodeedoo · 11/06/2025 10:53

I do have dogs and a cat but I’ve just out chicken in the slower cooker for tonight’s dinner. Yum

I’m a life long veggie but my mouth still salivates at bacon cooking.

Dotjones · 11/06/2025 10:54

Fish is a form of meat, you'll be fine. Just take it slowly if you're concerned, limit yourself to two or three rashers of bacon the first day. You'll soon retrain your body to eat normal levels of meat.

Remember, humans are naturally omnivores - we eat meat and we eat vegetables. The unnatural state is to only eat one or the other, and that's what leads to harming the body.
