I mean what is it doing to my self confidence when the triathlete swimming next to me can swim three lengths for every one of mine! it just shouldn't be allowed! .

Yes, and skinny women in bikinis as well, esp when I am in the pool floundering like something harpooned by Greenpeace

branflake81 · 22/05/2008 11:24

I'm not "really fit" but I think the reverse: I think they shuold ban slow people from swimming pools or at least give them their own lane. They clog up the pool and piss people off.

MsSparkle · 22/05/2008 11:26

At my local swimming pool there is a slow, medium and fast lane

OrmIrian · 22/05/2008 11:28

"like something harpooned by Greenpeace "

Have they changed their position on whaling recently sheikh?

SheikYerbouti · 22/05/2008 11:29

I have started going swimming 4 times a week, but I am still to slow for the med lane, however, I am too fast for the slow lane. It's a dilemma

There's a couple of batty olf dears who get in the ppool and end up getting a lane to themselves, because they swim v slowly and talk bolleaux at the top of their voices

wannaBe · 22/05/2008 11:29

oh yes. and skinny people. .

We have a fast lane in our pool and i tend to swim on the outside of that. doesn't mean I don't knotice the bloke on the other side of the divide belting across the pool at about 100 miles an hour. .

I did do 50 lengths in just under an hour which for me is impressive but I'm sure there are some who have swam half the length of the english channel in that time! it's just not fair! .

I think that really fit men should be allowed to swim when I am watching ds1's swimming lesson.

SheikYerbouti · 22/05/2008 11:29

Feck off you know what I mean

tortoiseSHELL · 22/05/2008 11:30

pmsl at 'harpooned by Greenpeace'

wannaBe · 22/05/2008 11:31

oh yes sheik we have those too. it's amazing what you can find out from the old dears cruising across the pool .

I swim in the outdoor university pool. It's utterly swamped by beautiful tanned young things, in miniature bikinis. If you get the wrong time of day it's heavy petting hour, it seems.

I prefer pools with lots of old flabby people in really.

motherinferior · 22/05/2008 11:41

I can heartily recommend the 8am slot at a weekend. It's fabulous. Lots of octegenarians and me. They are admittedly very fit octegenarians, as they swim EVERY day, but I feel all youthful by comparison.

Miniature bikinis would drive me to suicide.

motherinferior · 22/05/2008 11:42

And 50 lengths in just under an hour is pretty impressive, actually, I think. I do 60 in 50 minutes, and I am really quite a good swimmer.

Fennel · 22/05/2008 11:43

I'm a crap swimmer, but the Beautiful Young Bikini-wearers don't actually swim. They flaunt. And sunbathe. And snog.

nickytwotimes · 22/05/2008 11:45

People who wear a face full of make up and try to keep their head dry in the pool piss me off. You can smell their perfume on the way past.

motherinferior · 22/05/2008 11:46

I am still shuddering from the bikinis.

My pool is full of sturdy lycra.

poorbuthappy · 22/05/2008 11:47

Fit mums in itsey bitsey bikinis, child under 1 year, full make up, done hair and manages to get out looking the same.

Don't these women realise how long it should take them to lose the baby weight?

Fennel · 22/05/2008 11:49

I actually think my uni selects on the basis of physical beauty rather than academic ability. I am getting a bit tired of relentless youth and beauty all round me at work. But that's probably another thread.

branflake81 · 22/05/2008 11:50

oh god - the chatting old ladies. Grrr!!! Some of them don't even SWIM! They just walk along moving their arms. You can do that for free in the dry fgs!!

I also hate very splashy men with no consideration and slow people who sit at the end of the lane and then set off as soon as you get there so you get stuck behind them.

I love swimming but I get so enraged by people I rarely go.

Maybe I need anger management?

Fennel · 22/05/2008 11:51

Actually I don't like swimming in pools with children in either. Noisy, splashy things who jump in on top of you and don't stick to the lanes. But mumsnet isn't the place to say that probably.

motherinferior · 22/05/2008 11:52

Branflake, go at the weekend. The absolutely optimum slot is 8.30 - the first lot of swimmers have gone and there is a hiatus before others turn up. I troll along, in my sturdy lycra, and goggles, and hat, and webbed gloves, looking possibly the world's unsexiest woman. It is bliss.

motherinferior · 22/05/2008 11:53

God yes, kids in pools.

wannaBe · 22/05/2008 11:56

I have the benefit of not being able to see them.

And our pool only allows kids from 2-5 in the afternoons.

I went swimming for the first time in years the other day, and was totally embarassed myself by not being able to swim one length without stopping for breath

meanwhile, the only other person in the pool, a man 60ish swam length after length without stopping.....I really need to get fit!

GirlsRuleThisHouse · 22/05/2008 12:10

Swimming rage !! very funny

I never know whether to go up and down in one lane or round in a cycle i.e down along and up.
