I mean what is it doing to my self confidence when the triathlete swimming next to me can swim three lengths for every one of mine! it just shouldn't be allowed! .

I go at 6 30am on Tues and Thurs and 8am at weekends.

I can do 50 legnth in 40mins.

Preen

But I'm still farking slow compared to most.

But most are older then me - so no one laughs at my disgusting arse.

However, there are 0ne or 2 YBW

bandgeek - keep at it. I was like that a couple of months ago, after not swimming for years. I can now do 50 without stopping

Fennel - do you work at the same university I do in Devon? We have an outdoor pool there and I never go there during term time for fear of the students. Although they seem to swan about half-naked in the library too (even in winter), so there's no escape really.

Fennel · 22/05/2008 12:36

Heffa, yes I think it must be the same one. Was it my comment about selection by physical beauty rather than academic ability which gave it away?

Heffa · 22/05/2008 12:38

Yes, it was! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that suspects that

Just because they are thin doesn't mean they are that good at swimming, when I was doing my antenatal aquafit, there was a lady who was lane swimming - she just zoomed up and down the lanes, made me exhausted just watching her.
I reckon she was at least a size 22-24, but she was a FAB swimmer!

tissy · 22/05/2008 12:55

We have an old man who swims in boxers rather than trunks.

I have to avert my eyes if I happen to swim up behind him.

Last Sunday must have been national "Take your grandchildren swimming" day, as the pool was FULL of old folk standing around whilst the children in their charge ran riot!

vampbaby · 22/05/2008 17:18

I'm fit and slender but I can't swim. I try and go in the slow lane in bright red bikini and swimming till the middle where my foot can touch the ground then swim back down to the shallow end for about 30 min. All the fast swimmers look at me funny but I don't give ....as lont as I enjoy myself. Wish I could swim properly though...too scared to go to the deep end

Surfermum · 22/05/2008 17:25

Girlsrule - it's clockwise!

My pet hate is people in the lane who watch you approaching a turn, have been in the pool long enough to know you will lap them but then push off just as you are getting to the end. Why can't they just wait and tuck in behind?

My local pool is fab on a Saturday night at 6.30 pm onwards. I've been the only person in there sometimes. I guess the people with a life are out .
