Chanel is nice though??

Chanel is not considered a rich item, in fact the exact opposite. Vintage Chanel is the exception. But many actually rich people wouldn't buy Chanel

Agree, I might have a 10 year old 1 series but at least I own it and it hasn't even got 90k miles on the clock yet.

My BMW 1 series is 19 years old and has 160,000 miles on the clock, but I love it! It would never have been my choice of car, but I was given it 5 years ago when my (loaded) BIL was upgrading his "run around" and was "only" offered £1k part exchange for it, at the same time as my old car (then a 15 year old Ford Focus) had just seriously failed it's MOT. I don't care if people judge me for driving it, it's a really fun car to drive!

Kids in Ralph Lauren 😬
My mate dresses her kids in RL. However she is extremely rich and makes more money in a couple if weeks than I do in 18 months, so does her husband!!!
So im not accepting that entry! 😆

The north face. Specifically jackets
Only if worn by road men and the like!
I'm not trying to look rich in mine on Helvellyn, just worm and professional.

Worm! Oh the irony!

@VibeCurator, my handbags are Osprey and Paul Costelloe. Nicely made of good leather. They don't come with massive, shiny logo charms, though, so I couldn't say they're a straight MK replacement.

Oh, just remembered I have a Fossil bag too! The massive, non-shiny branding charm that came on it weighed a fucking ton, so I promptly binned it.

I have a Fossil bag. My DH bought it before they became popular so it wasn’t expensive. I have also just inherited a number of beautiful bags from my late sister. Two of them are Mulberry knock offs. They were made by a leather craftsman in my DSis village who copied the Mulberry designs with just enough variation to avoid trouble. Unlike Mulberry they are made in Britain by a man I’ve met.

Fake watches, and taking your Waitrose bags for life to Aldi!

I’ve got Waitrose and M&S bags for life and sometimes I shop in Lidl so they get used in there. Looking rich/trying to look rich has never even crossed my mind!

Todayisaday · 05/06/2025 22:34

True story...Today, I wore my ten pound poundland jeans with my 5 pound primark top, with ralph lauren trainers, a sainsburys bra, and a barbour jacket with my marc jacobs handbag, discreet logo. I also went to iceland in my Mercedes C class 2017 plate with a waitrose AND a Lidl bag for life. My nails look like shit. Guess my financial status 😂

Edited

I love this combination. I remember having afternoon drinks with a good friend who had a Channel handbag and was wearing a Primark coat, is very wealthy but has no airs and graces and doesn’t forget her roots. All wealth self made

PigletJohn · 05/06/2025 23:57

Enormous shiny watch (men)

Lots of jewellery.

GreenFriedTomato · 06/06/2025 00:01

Fake designer anything..if you can't afford the real thing why bother.
You can usually spot fakes a mile away and it's even more evident if you're carrying a fake £5000 bag and wearing £5 Primark shoes. It just looks like they want people to think they have loadsa money.
I'm saying this as someone who sources most clothes from charity shops, so not looking down on anyone for being poor

I know a few people who have motorbility cars. They are ford fiestas or skoda octavia. The people work.
Certainly not mercedes or bmw land rover etc. They could not afford them.

I hate SUV vehicles. Unless you live on a rural farm or on a moor you dont need one.

Did you not read my comment?!? I HAVE to have an SUV as I physically cannot get into any other car as I cannot bend. At all! Please don’t make such sweeping generalisations as declaring what people do or don’t need! Also as you can see, there are Audis BMWs & Mercedes on Motability! Get your facts right

InterIgnis · 06/06/2025 00:03

This thread lol.

Wealthy people buy whatever the fuck they want. Some are understated, some live and die in labels. Some are even do both.

ButteredRadish · 06/06/2025 00:04

TheCoralMoose · 05/06/2025 23:40

I dont dispute they are but not everyone on receipt of motorbility can afford them.

Nobody said they could?! No idea what led you to declare that?!

MisterT373 · 06/06/2025 00:05

Audi or Range Rover on a lease.

Miquandry · 06/06/2025 00:08

Being in an MLM....

Ohh goody gum drops for you.

I dislike jewellery on men especially gold bracelets chains etc.

I dont mind a wedding ring in platinum. But a mr T clone no thanks.

Katbum · 06/06/2025 00:13

Bad lip fillers. Gloopy fake eye-lashes.

You have to be pretty wealthy to afford a chanel bag they are thousands of pounds!!!

KimberleyClark · 06/06/2025 00:14

survivalinsufficient · 05/06/2025 22:32

Oh and Coach handbags!

I have a couple of Coach handbags. I’m not pretending to be wealthy, I’m just not enough of an idiot to buy a real LV or Chanel.

And I have an Audi but it’s 11 years old and I own it outright.

Katbum · 06/06/2025 00:17

Ireolu · 05/06/2025 23:49

Out of interest, what do you think rich people buy?

Right? And what do you consider rich, because for me being able to spend £2k plus on a bag (at the lower end of the scale) indicates you are quite wealthy. FWIW I know a billionaire's daughter (friend of my cousins from uni. Her dad is pretty famously a billionaire) and she has a wardrobe full of designer handbags including chanel, dior, LV, Hermes and more! I don't think you could accuse her of pretending to be rich!

Women who wear the chanel style cardigans or cardigan and skirt sets, trying to imitate 'quiet luxury'

Nothing wrong with not being rich, I'm also not rich 😭😭, but i hate those cardigans with a passion!

They think they look like old money but in reality look like they're cos-playing a school governor or a member of the PTA.

I have a Michael Kors bag. It was given to me by some lovely friends for my 40th birthday ten years ago and I love it. It still looks brand new. When use it it's not because I'm trying to "look rich". I'm certainly not "broke" either.
None the examples on this thread make much sense actually. A lot of you are just coming across as spiteful and extremely snobby. Well done.

I have several MK purses. And Coach. Kate Spade. I am neither poor nor trying to look rich. I have a limit on how much I think is reasonable to spend on a purse, and if I see one that's within the limit, I buy it.

doublec · 06/06/2025 00:21

Believe me, no-one, including American think Michael Kors is aspirational and implies wealth. It's a shame actually he cheapened his name with the mass produced bags and other MK branded goods as his womenswear (the super expensive stuff) is incredible, as were the things he made during his tenure at Céline.

As for trying to look rich... What does this even mean in this day and age? Anyone can fake it, and it all depends on who you're trying to impress anyway. And for many, they don't value stuff or judge others on their valuables. One thing I have learnt working in fashion/for people with money is that those who try the hardest and judge others on material things are always the most lacking in self-esteem and desperate for others to hold them in high regard.

It's superficial shallow bullshit, much like this thread.

Happiestathome · 06/06/2025 00:36

I have a new car every 3 years because it’s a reasonable price to me, I like a nice car and like that’s it’s reliable. I’m not posh in any way and don’t live somewhere posh. Are people really thinking I’m trying to play rich? 🤔 Certainly not the intention.

I bought a Coach bag on a whim because I just really liked the design/colour.
5 years later it still looks perfect despite a lot of use. It's my favourite bag by far.
I drive a tiny car though and don't care whether people think I am rich or not.
