To ask what one extinct thing you would bring back from your childhood?

By “thing” - I don’t mean people. I’m sure there are people from our childhoods that we would all want to bring back more than any “thing” in the world.

The thing that I would bring back would be tinned Spaghetti Hoops with Hotdogs in Smokey-Bacon Sauce by Heinz.

Best thing ever in the 90s IMHO!

I'd quite like a trim phone, my parents had a cream one. I loved the sound it made.

My friend had one.

She also had a parrot. She would often run downstairs to answer the phone, only to find it was the parrot, doing his perfect trimphone impersonation.

Jinx!

God I was thinking about these yesterday! And Applause. And Nutty bars.

phlebasconsidered · 05/06/2025 19:03

I second Trio biscuits! Also, old fashioned flavour Spangles, mince beef crispy pancakes, the old Disco crisps that gave you a salt attack, the old chicken and mushroom fray bentos pie, toat toppers (mind your mouth!) and the boil in the bag spag bol. Pure nostalgia from drunk snacks late 80s, pre microwave etc. Absolutely no one would eat the now, apart from maybe the Trio biscuits.

I would also bring back buses. As a teen i got buses to pubs/ the town and back, up to 11pm, even in our village. I'd get a bus into town at 4pm, stay out partying, get the last bus at 10.50. Now- fuck all. It's me being a taxi for my teens because public transport to villages is dead. They'll never get that sick on a bus feeling and see a bus station full of pussed people at 10.30.

YABU.

There is a Chat topic!

I would bring back people having simple, basic comprehension skills.

Did you mean Awesome Oinks? I saw them in my local shop the other day. A pinky purple packet with a pig on the front?

No they were called piglets and were 3D pig shaped.

Way down deep in the middle of the jungle...

curtaintwitcher78 · 05/06/2025 19:05

Dial phones. I just spent a fortune on bits and adaptors to get one to work on our VOIP network. I even had to tinker with one device just so the phone goes "bring-bring" instead of a long "rrrriiiing" I had missed my dial phone so much. I'm happy now, bit I wish it wasn't such an effort.

  1. Time. Full or at least half days with having absolutely nothing to do.
  1. The feeling that the world was becoming a better, fairer, more peaceful and more liberal world and the (ignorant) belief that climate change was not a severe threat.
TooBigForMyBoots · 05/06/2025 19:12

Fanta orange and Cadbury chocolate.

Ecstasy. It's all cocaine, heroin and granny drugs these days.
