I think the sentence is ok tbh. Im local to this. It is terrible. I just hope the child is given lots of help and changes for the better in the time they serve. I think the girl should’ve also been charged too

Oh give over. The sentence isn’t even remotely ok. It’s an absolute insult.

problembottom · 05/06/2025 20:16

These sentences are disgusting. The girl set the whole thing up and got away scot free. Racism scum the pair of them. That poor man and his family.

Daisydiary · 05/06/2025 20:18

I saw this earlier and was extremely shocked at the short sentence. I also don’t agree that it was manslaughter.

ThatCyanJoker · 05/06/2025 20:24

Shockingly lenient sentences- husband and I both gasped in disbelief when we heard it on the news earlier. That poor man - his daughter is a credit to him: dignified and articulate when she spoke of her dissatisfaction at the short sentences. Praying for her that this is reviewed and increased.

blackbirdevensong · 05/06/2025 20:25

Judges should be banned from courts. How can a woman who tweeted (and then deleted) get 2.5 years, but a person convicted of manslaughter gets off with nothing? What has happened to justice??

Genuinely asking - would you feel this way if your dad/granddad was killed like this?

Glitchymn1 · 05/06/2025 20:27

Kibble19 · 05/06/2025 18:51

You can imagine the mitigation from the defence. Dad isn’t on the scene, mum has MH issues, addiction within the family, truanting from school, suspected neurodivergence.

It’s a tale as old as time. The justice system never wants to condemn under 25s to a life in prison, so it’s almost always a lenient approach. Been happening for years, was the same with James Bulger’s killers, I don’t believe those two ever did a day in real prison.

It shouldn’t matter. Tougher sentences should be given, there are no consequences right now. In fact, prison might be a little holiday for her.

Genuinely interested

Presume you have other information additional to what's in the press

So you think the sentence is correct. Why is that?

Also, what sentence would you give if the killer had been 17? Or 25.

7 years? How long do you think they should get? I think imo 7 years is a good sentence given the boy was 14 when the offence happened. My opinion. People make mistakes, stupid decisions when youre an adolescent. He did wrong. I think 7 years is fair

manicpixieschemegirl · 05/06/2025 20:44

Deplorable but unsurprising. Same with two boys who the man killed in Dagenham after a campaign of abuse. The terror both of these elderly men must have felt. Why does our justice system think their lives are worth so little?

EmeraldRoulette · 05/06/2025 20:46

@SingleMama0 "stupid" isn't a word I'd use for a pre planned attack.

I mean I think it’s a bit more than a ‘mistake’ or ‘stupid decision’. He made the conscious choice to murder a vulnerable member of society. Maybe that’s why you’re being questioned on your comment. Let’s not forget the judge also said at ruling, the boy refuses to accept the death is his fault. So no acceptance of blame either.

WTF? Beating and abusing an elderly man so hard that his neck and multiple ribs fractured is not a mistake by any stretch of the word. This was a pre planned and very deliberate attack. They knew exactly what they were doing and filmed it so they could enjoy his suffering again later. I too made mistakes as a teenager yet not one of them involved harm to another human being(or animal)

7 years is a pathetic sentence(And he won’t even serve 7) for torturing, beating and racially abusing a helpless elderly man.

Mr Kohli died in terror and agony. His family have to spend the rest of their lives knowing their loved one died in pain and fear. That his life was very deliberately taken from him by these worthless thugs and you think that a man’s life, his torturous and sadistic death at the hands of racist thugs is worth just 7 years for one and no custodial time for the other? The odds of either of these sadists ever redeeming themselves and being of anything other than a detriment to society are slim to non existent but even if they do, this sentence is entirely inadequate.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 05/06/2025 20:51

I've just read about this and can honestly say I am shocked at the low sentence.
That poor man 😢
What a pair of absolutely vile excuses for human beings.
I'm disgusted and can wholly understand how let down the family must feel.

I doubt very much that you'd have this opinion if a member of your family was treated in such a vile and callous way.

Anjo2011 · 05/06/2025 20:55

Mr Kohlis family have every right to be furious. It’s an insult to them that this man lost his life and the perpetrators get such a light/no sentence. Where is the lesson in this and what message does it send out to society. We have it all so wrong. Sir Keir is passionate about sentencing people
for the crimes they commit, he should be getting involved in this and making sure justice is served.

There’s always one.

NightSweatsNinja · 05/06/2025 21:05

@SingleMama0 Are you the boy's mama?

ForeveraBluebird · 05/06/2025 21:06

Making mistakes is one thing, callously killing a defenceless elderly gentleman is absolutely not an adolescent making a mistake . That’s cold blooded murder.

NightSweatsNinja · 05/06/2025 21:05

No im not 🙄

i gave my opinion. Yes its not the same as everyone else’s.

how long does everyone else he shouldve got then?

Talapia · 05/06/2025 21:09

Mr Kholi died, whether they intended it or not , as a direct response of both minor's actions. Actions have consequences. Unfortunately the sentencing here is ridiculous. I hope it is reviewed.

His poor family...the judge should be ashamed of themselves, to value the life of an innocent man walking his dog so little.

Well, if an animal did this it would be destroyed.

If the boy is going to behave like an animal then it seems reasonable to treat him as such

I don’t think we should waste money on a prison place and attempts to rehabilitate him.

So to answer your question, zero years.

AcquadiP · 05/06/2025 21:11

It was a vicious and unjustifiable attack on a vulnerable old man, seven years is disgusting.
