Absolutely disgusting and I think anyone who does something like this should be named and shamed no matter the age , it’s no punishment at all I hope they appeal and it gets changed

CuarloDeFonza · 05/06/2025 18:41

What an absolute disgrace. You murder someone and get 7 years and he will be out in 3, what kind of justice system do we have.

BreatheAndFocus · 05/06/2025 18:42

A disgusting cowardly act made worse by those pathetic sentences. The boy should have got at least 25 years and the girl a proper sentence. Who cares about the disruption to her education? She was hardly doing well, was she? She sounds like a pathetic little loser who revels in cruelty. She should be locked up too.

RIP Mr Kohl.

Anonymouse22 · 05/06/2025 18:45

i remember reading about this when it first happened, I was so so shocked and horrified. It made me cry! Just pure evil and deserves much harder punishment in my opinion. Not enough to put off future offenders!!
Just pure evil to terrorise someone vulnerable , really makes me angry, just the thought of how scared he must of been is enough to break my heart, the same for the pp about the fireworks. Just awful.

Dangermoo · 05/06/2025 18:51

Just said on a other thread, how could you not cry reading the details of the attack. Racist scum.

Kibble19 · 05/06/2025 18:51

You can imagine the mitigation from the defence. Dad isn’t on the scene, mum has MH issues, addiction within the family, truanting from school, suspected neurodivergence.

It’s a tale as old as time. The justice system never wants to condemn under 25s to a life in prison, so it’s almost always a lenient approach. Been happening for years, was the same with James Bulger’s killers, I don’t believe those two ever did a day in real prison.

Chiseltip · 05/06/2025 18:52

Out in 3 years.

EstherGreenwood63 · 05/06/2025 18:53

A disgrace frankly. RIP Mr Kohli.

User37482 · 05/06/2025 19:02

I think we should just build more prisons and accept that some people cannot function in society without causing harm to others and the best thing to do is to keep them away from the rest of society. We centre criminals too much, many people come from less than ideal circumstances and don’t decide to beat an elderly man to death. The behaviour is psychopathic.

Thoughts with Mr Kohli’s family, this should never have happened and the sentencing is a joke. The girl who filmed the attack should have been jailed.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 05/06/2025 19:04

Disgusting animals. Their parents should be ashamed. Although I bet they aren't.

I agree. I work in criminal justice, you can examine the nature/nurture, the early beginnings, trauma etc etc etc until you’re blue in the face. Ultimately, some people just can’t function in a decent society, be rehabilitated or just be a decent human being, so should be kept away from those who can function ‘correctly’. At those ages you know that’s a horrific, unacceptable way to behave, if you don’t you need to be kept apart from society until you do. ‘Child’ or otherwise.

If the above requires building more prisons so be it. Or keep them in for longer. That doesn’t equate to no prison based work, if humans can be rehabilitated to come out nice functioning humans then great, but the majority can’t. Why should families go through this pain?

They will be out in 3.5 years.
it’s shocking. This government will do nothing about it.

They - actually just him.

She's got away with no jail time and virtually a slap on the rist even though she pictured him the week before and on day of attack pointed him out showing it was premeditated. She then filmed the murder and was laughing throughout.

If they'd dun that to my family shed wish shed got jail time. Id definitely be hunting her down.

This.

Morally superior MN users will be appalled by it, but I have no issue saying that if this had been my family, she’d have been safer in prison.

Viviennemary · 05/06/2025 19:44

I saw this on the news and was horrified. And the girl filming didn't even get a custodial sentence. It should be reviewed.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/06/2025 19:44

Thompson and Venables were at least named, their photographs in the papers, and they did serve some time.

Obviously, we've gone backwards since then.

SarfLondonLad · 05/06/2025 19:50

I sincerely hope the Attorney General takes steps to correct this. Those sentences are far, far too lenient.

Kibble19 · 05/06/2025 19:52

Haven’t read the detail but surely the CPS are appealing this for undue leniency?

No- he will be out.

The girl never went in.

It's horrifying.

Dangermoo · 05/06/2025 20:00

If anyone has ever seen the film Eden Lake about feral kids. This is what it reminds me of. It's the pain the poor man went through, I can't bear.

RabbitsRock · 05/06/2025 20:00

It’s very difficult to put into words how I feel about this. Apart from anything else, I can’t get my head around how young the perpetrators were. What is happening to the human race? 😢

LumpyMashedPotato · 05/06/2025 20:01

And its not even 7 ... he'll serve 3.5 most probably.

Absolutely disgraceful.
The poor family.

I can fully understand this feeling actually.

Particularly when the sentance is so egregious...

MonTuesWeds · 05/06/2025 18:41

Can anyone shed any light on why this is? Seriously. These people are animals

Because they were convicted of manslaughter not murder. Plus them being minors means the sentences are even more pathetically low. I think the judge was way too soft with them though.

NightSweatsNinja · 05/06/2025 20:08

I'm also angry with the police who did nothing when 2 reports of racism in this area were ignored. They should be held to account. If they had intervened, this potentially could have been prevented.
