My 17 year old son walked our dogs tonight, and passing a property with lots of caravans in the yard,a dog ran out and attacked them,he tried to pull it off,and luckily wasnt bitten!!the police are going round now,but i want them to pay or be prosecuted under the dangerous dogs act, preferably both.My little dog is in theatre now having his stomach wall repaired,my other dog has had injections against pain and infection for her wounds. My son has a-level physics tomorrow and we are waiting to give a statement.Hes ok,but shocked,he was covered in blood when he called me!

AitchTwoCiao · 21/05/2008 22:12

prosecute anyway, tbh. next time it could be a kid.

mistypeaks · 21/05/2008 22:12

prosecute the &*&$%~s! I really hope your dc and dogs are ok. Good luck for your exam WAStyedyeJNR!!
Sadly it sounds like they are the kind of people who won't pay though. GITS

mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 21/05/2008 23:26

No yanbu, they should pay. I hope your dogs are better soon, and I want to wish your son good luck for his physics a level tomorrow.

cornsilk · 21/05/2008 23:28

What a terrible shock for your son. Poor dogs. Definitely prosecute. Anyone with any decency would offer to pay anyway.

micci25 · 21/05/2008 23:28

they should offer to pay you should accept and prosecute anyway. dogs like this should be kept under control at all times

hope your dog recovers

Confidentialnamechanger · 21/05/2008 23:30

that's awful

poor ds and very poor dog. I would sue their asses off but I would care less about that than having an order put on the owners and having the police prosecute

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 11:42

Im in shock, the people said i could phone this morning at a certain time span, but they arent answering.PC isnt on duty til tonight, and the vets phoned, surgery was complex as wound to belly severe, hes gonna be ok,but im supposed to pay 800 quid this afternoon, which i might be able to put on credit card, but its my daughters birthday on sunday and im broke.

They should definately pay but realistically are they the type of people who will be socially responsible and stump up.

You need to push for a prosecution anyway.

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 11:54

they are pikeys,but with a house...an caravans/horse boxes..etc

OP posts:
duchesse · 22/05/2008 11:56

It could be a child that dog gets next time. tbh I think your chances of getting any money out of them are fairly remote though.

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 13:30

they rang,im putting it through their insurance company now,and they complimented me on what a polite young man my son is!

EffiePerine · 22/05/2008 13:31

Push for prosecution. Sorry to hear about your dog - is your boy OK?

It was a lurcher,on legal advice, they know it will be destroyed next time if i prosecute.Im picking my dog up at half four.

Can I just ask - what difference does it make if they are "pikeys" - travellers I'm sure you meant to say - unless you wanted to be racist?

This is the second thread today where people seem to think that it is OK to make racial remarks about gypsy travellers.

I can imagine the uproar if you'd said "they're n**rs"

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 14:48

i'd have thougth that if they were travellers they'd be gutted, any travellers i've ever met totally LOVE their dogs. careful, though, over the prosecution, because they'll be gutted if the dogs have to be put down (which imo they should).

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 17:45

Gypsy travellers and pikeys are not the same thing, pikeys tie dogs up and train them to fight to the death, personally,i have gypsy traveller in my lineage, and yes they love their animals.Ive just collected my dog,who is rigid with pain and groaning.I didnt start this thread to discuss racial discontent,my bigotry,if i have any,is against bigots, and people who misuse and abuse any innocents they come across, human or animal.

V sorry about your dog but I agree, 'pikeys' is an offensive term that gets bandied about far too much.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 22/05/2008 17:49

Prosecute anyway. You really must.
Your poor DS . Next time it could be 10 year old walking a dog past and BOTH could end up injured.

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 17:49

i thought they were putting it through their insurance? that sounded pretty decent of them to me.

TinkerbellesMum · 22/05/2008 18:10

YANBU, however personal experience tells me you probably won't get far.

We had two boxers the dog was the dopiest thing you could imagine, the bitch was (is) mad! (in a cute way) We had fencing up the kind with slats that go on top of each other (bit like roof tiles, I don't know proper names) and they pointed down to our next door neighbours garden.

Next door had cairn terriors and they were vicious little things. One day they ripped the fence and got into our garden. They started on the dog. The bitch, my brother, dad and XH all had to fight these evil muts to get them off of him.

They hurt him so badly we had to rush him to out of hours and he had to be muzzled he was in so much pain. The vet said they had narrowly missed the sheath on his ligaments so he was lucky to still be walking.

We couldn't go anywhere with the complaint, it cost my parents a lot of money (he had epilepsy and was insured because it started while he was in his free kennel club insurance year). The neighbour tried to say our dogs had ripped the fence, which wouldn't be possible. Boxers have square jaws and terriors have pointed so boxers can't do that sort of damage, plus it would be impossible with the fence pointing to the neighbours garden.

TinkerbellesMum · 22/05/2008 18:16

Hope your dogs get better soon and that your son is able to concentrate for his exams, it must have been very traumatic for him.

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 18:24

Thank you everybody,im going to ignore the irritations re the term "pikeys",its ok to slate men,chavs,MIL,etc...but not anyone else.?

expatinscotland · 22/05/2008 18:29

i'd definitely prosecute.

FILs dog was attacked in similar fashion by an Akita owned by a poncey twat in a posh park.

he tried to get out of paying.

luckily MIL worked as a legal secretary and her boss went after him and he magically stumped up the £800 in bills.
