My 17 year old son walked our dogs tonight, and passing a property with lots of caravans in the yard,a dog ran out and attacked them,he tried to pull it off,and luckily wasnt bitten!!the police are going round now,but i want them to pay or be prosecuted under the dangerous dogs act, preferably both.My little dog is in theatre now having his stomach wall repaired,my other dog has had injections against pain and infection for her wounds. My son has a-level physics tomorrow and we are waiting to give a statement.Hes ok,but shocked,he was covered in blood when he called me!

well you're either ignoring it or not. if you do care to debate it then i am also deeply uncomfortable with the term chav and think it cheapens the user markedly. MiLs can fend for themselves.

if not, then as i say you really should prosecute. it may be a child next, you'd never forgive yourself...

expatinscotland · 22/05/2008 20:38

i only read the OP.

have i missed something .

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 20:41

not much, really. the OP is reserving the right to call people pikeys because of her traveller heritage. like black people calling themselves 'nigga', maybe? except i don't think she's claiming back the term... just using it as an insult. which is fine, you knwo, whatever she wants to do... terrible about her poor dogs.

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 20:41

i mean, not fine by me, obv. but she's ignoring it.

expatinscotland · 22/05/2008 20:42

OMG, i went through reading it in a panic because i was afraid i'd missed that the dog had died.

mshadowsnumber1fan · 22/05/2008 21:12

oh you poor dog and your poor son.
WAStyedye has had a horrid shock and for once I think people should ignore the term she used.

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 21:51

ere...look,calm down girls,SMILE!!!..slang terms are used in lots of contexts by everybody, and do you know what?! i am not bothered,i know im not racist,i know im not a bigot, and if i used an offensive term,i didnt mean to offend.Ive just spoonfed my dog,who is groaning with pain, and im going to be up with him all night in case the drain in his stomach haemorrages. But i got him to eat,and to wee,and hes wagging his tail a little again. So if you want to get all worked up about racism,or non pc remarks etc,go read a copy of the Daily Mail, its packed with it,thanks for all the support girls, xxx
expat used the term "twat",i have no problem with that, but thats a slang term for a" lady garden",and nobody told HER off?!cmon....x

Hmm
mshadowsnumber1fan · 22/05/2008 21:57

WAStyedye don't worry about it.
I had a beautiful dog and I remeber what it was like when he was ill. I think people are wrong to have a go at you. when you have had such a horrid time(and I am someone who hates the word pikey)

WAStyedye · 22/05/2008 22:00

sorry,im over reacting, ive trapped a nerve in my back today, and i have to carry my dog everywhere,xx

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 22:00

no-one's having a go, actually. someone pointed it out totally politely and got told off for even trying. if she's ignoring the comments, she should ignore them. personally i think people have gone VERY easy because of the dog...

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 22:01

good one tyedye. i hope your back and your dog feel better soon, the whole thing must have been very frightening.

Mojomummy · 22/05/2008 22:31

Hope your son & your dog are ok. I would urge anyone who goes out walking to take one of the high pitched alarms out with them.

justhavingamoan · 23/05/2008 13:12

I hope your dog is ok.

About 15yrs ago there were some travellers that decided to take up residence at the meadow at the end of my parents road. one night they let 3 lurchers out to attack my paretns dog (deliberately - and stood watching)......my dad let our dog off the lead as he couldnt defend himself and after he had killed 2 of the lurchers they came and took the other one in and offered my dad £1500 for our dog. the council got rid of them 3 days later.

it was a test to see if he could fight. obviously he could, and did, but he was our pet and not for sale. They were v sick to do this.

3 yrs later our next dog (other one was 10yrs old) got stolen out the garden when.......coincidently.......travellers had again taken up residence in the meadow - then left the next day before council got to them again.

we know they stole him - but souldnt prove it - and couldnt get in the site - even with police.

so TBH I dont rate travellers much, and i dont think everyone should be so offended by the term the OP used - she was angry and if it happened to me i would have used the same term, and more

justhavingamoan · 23/05/2008 13:13

'couldnt prove it....'

bethoo · 23/05/2008 13:15

you are within every right, if yor dogs were on the lead and the others were not then they are liable and by law have to pay the bills and also prosecute as the dogs are obviously dangerous.
hope your little dog gets well soon.

WAStyedye · 23/05/2008 17:02

Thank you "justhaving a moan"..several years ago,i had a cat,a Maine coon vanish for a week, when i searched and put posters up etc,i was told that he had been thrown 30 feet into a river by a group of "Traveller" kids.He eventually came home malnourished and terrified. They threw him from a road bridge.I found out who was responsible by witnesses, who wouldnt give a statement for fear of reprisal locally.I never got any money for his care, and he became withdrawn and aggressive and eventually had to be put in a lovely snactuary as he started biting my children. So,i agree with you,and i still maintain that" gypsys",and "pikeys",are not the same thing.
My dog is coping, but his wounds could go gangrenous as they are crush injuries, and that will be sudden and very serious.

I am so saddened by this post. My dog was attacked a couple of years ago. There was no lasting damage but the images have stayed with me. I really hope your son is OK and you dogs fully recover.

I would definitely prosecute - good luck
