Watching Lilo & Stitch..is this odd?

Here with Dd, only one other family here…and this guy, munching on snacks..watching Lilo & Stitch

Is it just me 😂

OP posts:

Man watches film alone whilst eating snacks - normal.

Someone goes to the cinema with their child and sits on their phone bitching about the other cinema goers - you're the weird one.

Exactly this.

CantStopMoving · 02/06/2025 14:36

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:33

I'm saying that yes, it's odd. Which is what the op asked.

You think it's not? So you think it's usual/ordinary?

Do you think it's common for adult men to go to the cinema and watch a kids films alone? Really? You see this often?

Bollocks you do 😂

I love Spongebob. I went to the SpongeBob movie on my own years ago. I didn’t think it was odd at the time.

wokemeupagain · 02/06/2025 14:36

I go to the cinema loads on my own, watch all sorts. would it be weird if it was a lone female (i even take a blanket and throw that over me when im reclining lol)

Difficile · 02/06/2025 14:36

It was probably my brother. He has an annual pass to the cinema (it's his hobby) and has worked out how many films he needs to see in order to make it worthwhile, so he often goes and watches random stuff to get his monies worth.

Nothing weird about it, bit judgemental of you though.

Westfacing · 02/06/2025 14:36

I've just watched the trailer on YouTube - it looks charming and very clever cinematography wise,

If I had cinema membership and at a loose end I would go and watch it.

I'm a 70 year-old woman and would hope no one would find it creepy! I know lone men can be predatory but I can't see any harm in this instance.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 02/06/2025 14:37

Ooooh that's absolutely 😲. He should be ashamed of himself.

  1. Going to cinema (on his OWN 😲)
  2. He's a man 😲,
  3. A kids movie too!!! Doesn't he know it's just for mums and their under 8s
I hope you alerted the appropriate authorities to deal with this indiindividual!!

same as the reason I go! I absolutely love films and its the only peace and quiet I get

pizzaHeart · 02/06/2025 14:38

Littlebluecreature · 02/06/2025 14:14

Ok wasn’t trying to be awful at all, wasn’t judging him, feel bad now.
I love going to the cinema on my own, it was just the kids thing, that’s all

I absolutely get this^. I wouldn’t mind to go to a film on my own but Lilo a Stitch ? No way. At a stretch I could go to see something like Paddington in Peru or Inside out 2 on my own but in reality I wouldn’t waste my time on them without DD - my solo time is very precious.

I’m not so surprised that a man watching Lilo and stitch on his own. They are much more kids inside than us, women. DD is always watching animated films with DH and don’t even ask me who looks more interested 😆

Laserwho · 02/06/2025 14:40

It's not a kids film it's a Disney film. We have all grown up watching Disney films, I love them now aged 50 as much as when I was 8. I love the new movies. My 89 year old dad loves them. Disney films are for everybody not just children

RedemptionWeek · 02/06/2025 14:40

You're overreacting. He could be autistic, have learning disabilities, really love Disney, etc, but none of your business. Good for him for going alone.

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:41

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:35

We had an adult couple childfree watching Peppa pig movie, I did think it was a bit strange watching a young kids film like this. It's bad enough having to be subjected to it, without going willingly!

Nothing wrong with going alone, very common. However, odd choice of film. I agree with others, maybe he likes animation, or possibly some learning difficulties? It is out of the ordinary though, of course. I try not to judge, but I would think it was weird, and hope that the reasons were innocent.

Edited

Quoting myself to add, it isn't an animation though. It is a real life movie with actual people in?

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 02/06/2025 14:42

You are being so unreasonable here. If he has a cinema membership card, like me, he may go and see every film released, like me. Adults make the films, OP. Why wouldn’t film-loving adults go to see them? Have you not watched Shrek, for example?

LilacLouLou · 02/06/2025 14:42

I was a PA for a 40 year old woman with learning disabilities, you wouldn't really know to look at her. She loves kids films. She will often go to the cinema on her own if no one can go and accompany her.

I don't think it's strange at all, you don't know this man's circumstances at all.

steff13 · 02/06/2025 14:42

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:07

If he’s middle aged then he was a kid when the first movie came out and it light just be nostalgia. He isn’t doing anything wrong. Jesus. Cannot believe you’ve started a thread about this.

That's how I was when the new Incredibles movie came out a few years ago. I loved the first one when I was younger. My kids came, but I would have gone without them.

UrsulaBelle · 02/06/2025 14:43

My 24yo autistic DS goes to the cinema fairly regularly on his own and his tastes tend to children's films. He's completely harmless.

Bestfootforward11 · 02/06/2025 14:43

Not odd, poor guy. Just going to the cinema to see a film he fancied. Loads of ‘grown’ men (and women) like kids films for a whole range of reasons. And many people go to the cinema alone, again for a whole range of reasons.

By all means be vigilant but racing to mumsnet to comment on how odd it all is while this guy is ‘munching on snacks’ watching the film rather than watching the film yourself with your DD is something I find a bit odd.

You are clearly thinking about it enough that you needed to post. You were judging him. You replied to say it’s because it’s a kids film. And that’s it.

CantStopMoving · 02/06/2025 14:43

How are male film reviewers supposed to do their jobs if they have to always be accompanied?

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:44

Smoulderdash · 02/06/2025 14:33

What about adult women?

Yeah, still odd.

I've 3 dc from 17 down and couldn't even count how many kids films I've taken them to over the years. I don't think we've ever seen a lone adult watching a kids film in a cinema, ever.

It would be unusual. Odd. Uncommon. So it would draw my eye and I'd notice, absolutely.

All the cool girls on this thread who are adamant it's just so normal and happens so often they wouldn't even take note are rather funny.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 02/06/2025 14:44

What a mean post.

Plenty of adults love all that is Disney, and go to the theme parks on their own. They may not have kids / kids are grown up / escaping from them 😬.

Just let the bloke enjoy what he enjoys.

ThatShyRoseViper · 02/06/2025 14:44

Don’t worry OP, if he was a pervert he’d choose somewhere he could actually see some kids rather than sit in the dark.

I think a lone middle aged man watching a film like this, with the predominant audience being parents and little kids, would stand out. It has real people in it, one of them a little girl. Maybe if it was the Garfield cartoon, or Paddington, op wouldn't have commented. There is a a few innocent reasons yes, and probably was perfectly fine, but of course he stands out.

ShabbyRobedNun · 02/06/2025 14:45

I know a guy in sales, he travels all over the Country, he has a cinema pass so when working away from home he'll literally watch a movie a day, sometimes two to pass the time. Sometimes watches the children's films and if he thinks they were good he takes his children once he's home.

RedemptionWeek · 02/06/2025 14:45

BurntBroccoli · 02/06/2025 14:25

Exactly! There was a post the other month about people who go for walks alone seen as odd.

I'm glad I didn't see that post, my DH works on some of my days off and we're avid ramblers, I love walking so need to go alone sometimes.

I don't think this is necessarily true.
