I've no idea what you're on about here or if you're replying to the wrong post maybe? I said nothing about the guy being a predator.

What are you saying then? What are you saying people are being too accepting of and unflapped by?

MrsPinkSky · 02/06/2025 14:28

Certainly no odder than starting a thread on the internet to discuss this complete stranger's viewing choice.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 02/06/2025 14:28

I'm a big burly man with a skinhead. I'll also be heading to see How To Train Your Dragon the minute it comes out.

If people think I'm a bit odd, fuck 'em.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 02/06/2025 14:28

I saw Lilo and Stitch in the cinima age 20 all be it with a load of other students, if I didn't have a child I would happily see the live action on my own. Media can still be entertaining without 'adult themes'. It doesn't make me weird or immature to enjoy something without swearing, extreme violence or sex scenes from time to time.

Not following your logic here - I didn't mention rule breaking.

Something can be odd as hell without breaking any rules or laws.

When an individuals behaviour appears unusual, it will usually make you more guarded, for obvious reasons.

It's not odd to go to the cinema by yourself.

I often go alone, and often there are a good few other people by themselves too. You get to see what you want, when you want and there is nobody nicking your sweeties.

I've even - shock - gone to see films aimed at families/kids by myself too.

It’s not in any way strange though!

I can’t work out how watching a film alone is odd, cartoon or not. I’m in my 40s and I have to admit I like to watch cartoons still.

StMarie4me · 02/06/2025 14:30

How horrible you are.

Judgy and horrible.

SmallSoupcon · 02/06/2025 14:30

I'm more concerned that OP seems to be on her phone while the film is playing.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 02/06/2025 14:30

Very strange behaviour (you OP, not the man)

caringcarer · 02/06/2025 14:30

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/06/2025 14:10

This is so perfectly normal, I can't believe you even noticed. Disney films have very broad appeal.

Why shouldn't he enjoy watching g a film? Is he hurting anyone? Has he made any inappropriate advances towards anyone? Live and let live OP.

Onlyharmony · 02/06/2025 14:31

Wow you are so judgemental. 😲

You're trying to police what people watch now?

Was he sat there with his hands down his pants because I feel like you're trying to insinuate something bad here.

Guess what as an adult woman, I have no kids but I went with a male colleague friend to see the lion king in cinema. Is that okay with you?
The audacity honestly. 😅😅😅😅

I cannot believe how much time you must have!

MoominMai · 02/06/2025 14:31

@Littlebluecreature yes it’s just you. Most of us live and let live 🙄.

OverpricedCupcake · 02/06/2025 14:31

I went to a kid's theater production on my own last year and loved it.

BunnyLake · 02/06/2025 14:32

familylawyer01392 · 02/06/2025 14:09

No it's not odd, how judgemental! I went over the weekend and there was a man on his own sitting next to me, didn't even occur to me that it could be seen as strange

Only if you were the only two there 😂

I'm saying that yes, it's odd. Which is what the op asked.

You think it's not? So you think it's usual/ordinary?

Do you think it's common for adult men to go to the cinema and watch a kids films alone? Really? You see this often?

Bollocks you do 😂

LoremIpsumCici · 02/06/2025 14:33

Many parents prewatch everything before they let their children see it.
I have also gone to the cinema and my DC wanted to sit in the very front row. I cant sit with them as it would hurt my neck. So i sit by myself several rows back.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 02/06/2025 14:33

The best one I ever saw was when we went to see East Is East at the cinema.

After the film had finished and the credits began, a grown man in front of us stood up and put on his parka - the exact same kind of coat that Sajid wore in the film, set in the 70s, which virtually nobody has worn irl for the last 30 years!

I can't say anything, though, as I absolutely love the CBBC Malory Towers adaptation - I'm a big Blyton fan ever since childhood.

What about adult women?

Needmorelego · 02/06/2025 14:33

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/06/2025 14:18

You're kidding? You think it's more likely this guy's a predator hiding in plain sight than a film fan with nobody to go to the cinema with? Why would he wait until after half term?

If he doesn't have children or doesn't work in a school how would he know it's half term?

ItsStillWork · 02/06/2025 14:34

There was a couple next to us watching Lilo and Stitch with no kids.

i did wonder why 2 middle aged adults would want to watch a kids film.

Ive been to the theatre to watch children’s musicals and seen people there with no children too.

lap90 · 02/06/2025 14:34

No, it’s not odd.

There’s nothing wrong with grown men or women going to the cinema alone and watching a film, regardless of the rating.

There are screenings of Lilo and Stitch well into the evening at some of my locals so not just attracting the kids.

Onlyharmony · 02/06/2025 14:35

But if it isn't common so frigging what!

He's allowed to like lilo and stitch.

Maybe he was young the first time it came out and wanted to see it.

Maybe he had no one he could go see it with.

Maybe he came alone because gasp, he likes going to the cinema alone. It isn't illegal.

Unless he is fapping away, grow the heck up.

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:35

We had an adult couple childfree watching Peppa pig movie, I did think it was a bit strange watching a young kids film like this. It's bad enough having to be subjected to it, without going willingly!

Nothing wrong with going alone, very common. However, odd choice of film. I agree with others, maybe he likes animation, or possibly some learning difficulties? It is out of the ordinary though, of course. I try not to judge, but I would think it was weird, and hope that the reasons were innocent.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 02/06/2025 14:35

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:11

Good grief. Yeah, yeah reasons, reasons🙄

In reality, of course it's bloody odd. I'd be curious if I saw a grown man sitting watching a cartoon alone in a cinema.

I must say though, the replies so far are amusing. Absolutely wild how people are just desperate to display how accepting and unflappable they are 😂

Edited
  1. it’s not a cartoon
  2. even if it was, some adults like cartoons (shock, horror!)
  3. even if they don’t like cartoons, some adults like films and checking out new releases! Yes, really!
  4. some adults like doing things by themselves! Yes, even movies or restaurants!

I’m not trying to prove how “unflappable” I am because there is nothing to “flap” over. Why on earth a person eating popcorn in a cinema would cause a grown adult to “flap” is beyond me.

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:36

HaddyAbrams · 02/06/2025 14:18

Whilst I agree that he's doing nothing wrong, someone middle aged (40-60) was not a child in 2002.

I’m mid 30s. I’m middle aged. I was 12/13 when that movie came out and we all went to see it; boys and girls from school saw that film.
