No time to read all the responses, but have seen a few. In no way was I saying there could be something dodgy about this man watching/going to a kids film or that there was anything wrong with going to a film alone, Ive done this a number of times and really enjoy it.
I also wasn’t trying to be mean or judgy at all and wished I hadn’t posted it! I was just surprised at seeing a middle aged guy watching a kids film alone, that is all, I’ve not seen it before.

Why did you post it, if you’re so insistent that you thought nothing amiss?

Menopausalmum43 · 02/06/2025 20:44

I think the fact you think it weird is weird 🤔

This thread reminds me of the time my 65+ years old OH was harangued by a posse of the mummy vigilantes for simply sitting on a bench near a children's play park and reading a book. As he chose to do the right thing and ignore them they got more and more hysterical, causing the children they claimed to be protecting to cry. When I turned up about 15 minutes into their performance with our grandchild who'd suddenly need the loo across in a supermarket then an ice-cream they told him he should have explained! He didn't bother to tell them that their antics were in fact amusing.

I can believe this.
My DF used to work for the council and would often sit in his truck in park car parks (many of which over look kid's play areas) to have his lunch. Totally harmless.
I would hate to be a man nowadays.

I thought it was unusual, I still think ‘Oh wow a man in his 40’s alone with no kids, watching a kids film’ it’s just not something i’d do (the kids film) without my kid (purely because i’m not a fan enough of kids films to go to the cinema on my own to see it) but I can see now others are/do. I can’t think of much worse 😂but each to their own.
Nothing sinister at all and was quite surprised when people were posting that, no kids there aside from me and Dd and a couple and their son. He sat a bit away and was the only one who stayed right until watching the credits etc and we all were leaving, just must be a big fan!

After reading all replies I think it must be me! It was only lighthearted…or supposed to be 😬

Yes, staying until the credits end is a sign. He might be seeing if there are extra bits.

I have a friend in his 60s who will be going to see this film too. Probably with his best friend... a man in his 50s. Both huge Disney fans (they go to Disneyland together... no kids or grandkids. Just big fans).

If he watched the credits - he is probably in the industry.

Or a film review blogger?

God what a small minded post

OonaStubbs · 02/06/2025 20:53

Without sounding horrible, surely a real paedophile would be far more likely to be watching lilo and stitch at home?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/06/2025 21:00

I’m female but love going to the cinema by myself. I don’t enjoy cartoons particularly, but have gone to see things like the Hunger Games movies and the more recent Jurassic Park films on my own which were mainly for younger people. It’s fine!

scalt · 02/06/2025 21:03

The subject of this thread is peak mumsnet (all men must be up to no good if they’re alone in a place where children might be), but I’m glad to see most of the replies are defending the man.

My DH also saw Mary Poppins Returns by himself. Call the police.

I was NEVER saying it for this reason and when someone posted something about that I did think how weird as it literally never crossed my mind he’d be in there for that. As ive said lots, it wasn’t about that or going alone (I do this occasionally and it’s a real treat) just that it was Lilo and Stitch and it did look different, but i’m happy to admit it must be me who is weird 🤣

I keep thinking - what would a real paedophile be hoping to achieve, in a cinema, where children are all sat extremely close to their parents??

Supima · 02/06/2025 21:16

Years ago, with young children, I was genuinely stunned to see adults without kids at Disneyland Paris. I kept grumpily thinking ‘but Paris is just down the road. Who the fuck would want to squeeze into a bloody revolving teacup when the Louvre & steak frites with red wine are available?’ I had no idea at the time that adult Disney was a thing. I personally feel the same about adults voluntarily watching kids’ movies without kids. I didn’t think adults at Disney were paedophiles of course, I just thought it was incomprehensible to me. I don’t think the OP was planning to call the cops, she was just surprised. Whatever! I’m sure I like lots of things other people hate.

steff13 · 02/06/2025 21:18

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 20:26

A film that has a predominant audience of very young children. The film features real people, one of them a little girl running around in swimwear, so yes, op would think this, coupled with all of the kids in the cinema.
Maybe if it was Garfield, or Paddington or something else she wouldn't have. I'm sure op thought all of the innocent explanations too, but I think you're lying if that wouldn't cross your mind as one of them. It doesn't mean you think the man is actually a sexual predator. Afterall they say it is usually the ones you would never expect.

A kids' movie, on a weekday, during the school year. If he wanted to be around kids, he probably could have chosen a more opportune time. As far as we know he didn't expect there to be any kids there.

Years ago, I made the fatal mistake of going to see an animated film during half term time.
I got there a bit late, and the place was PACKED. I ended up sitting in the front row (which any cinema goer knows is the shittiest seat). About half the kids there were not even seated and were just running about. It was bloody awful!

Me and my friend went as adults. She had never been as a child as family couldn't afford it and me i been before but was too short to go on the main rides 🤣 so didnt fancy Paris this was more fun!

ZoeCM · 02/06/2025 21:27

"Little kiddies' film" makes me think of Thomas the Tank Engine or Peppa Pig or something. I haven't seen the remake, but from what I remember Lilo & Stitch is a funny, heart-warming film. Yes, it's primarily aimed at kids, but so are Harry Potter, Doctor Who and Star Wars. Plenty of adults still enjoy those. Fun doesn't have to stop just because you've grown up!

KilkennyCats · 02/06/2025 21:38

Nasty bloody thread, op.

Yes as I have said maybe he is just a man who likes to watch films at the cinema that are aimed at young children

People like you and the OP are the reason why my OH became reluctant to take the kids to a fucking play park because on two occassions women had a go at him just ffor being there despite having his own children with him.

Trumptonagain · 02/06/2025 21:40

I'd be interested to know of those posting that this man must have been up to no good, had you of found out your own DH/DP had gone to the cinema on a whim and watched a film that had DC starring in, one supposedly aimed at DC, how many would have kicked them out for doing so.

justasmalltownmum · 02/06/2025 21:43

My manager at work did this once,.. as he was locked out and had to wait for his wife to come home from work. So he just went to watch a movie (he had a pass).
