I meant sex offenders are not being monitored not the children

working with these types of men does make you more suspicious but also you become more aware of the patterns of behaviour these offenders have

so if I was in op's position yes I would have questioned (to myself) why is he there

He was watching a film HTH

JaneJeffer · 02/06/2025 20:07

Nothing wrong with it

Yes as I have said maybe he is just a man who likes to watch films at the cinema that are aimed at young children

XenoBitch · 02/06/2025 20:17

Bloody hell, this place!
A man is alone in the cinema. Call 101... actually 999. Get him out of the public and have his hard drive checked. Must be a wrong un.

Being on your phone in the cinema is police worthy. Put it away and MYOB.

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:36

I’m mid 30s. I’m middle aged. I was 12/13 when that movie came out and we all went to see it; boys and girls from school saw that film.

You are not middle aged!!!

Circless · 02/06/2025 20:19

I've gone to the cinema loads on my own.
A delicious treat.

How bizarre.

It wasn't about going to the cinema alone, it was about the kids film. Read the OP

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/06/2025 20:24

Besides anything else, he could have been with a group of older kids (ie son or daughter and their friends) who didn’t want dad sat with them.

But equally could just have liked the film.

What is wrong with an adult going to see a kid's film?
It's target audience is not a meant as a restriction on who can or can't see it.

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 20:26

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 02/06/2025 20:07

He was watching a film HTH

A film that has a predominant audience of very young children. The film features real people, one of them a little girl running around in swimwear, so yes, op would think this, coupled with all of the kids in the cinema.
Maybe if it was Garfield, or Paddington or something else she wouldn't have. I'm sure op thought all of the innocent explanations too, but I think you're lying if that wouldn't cross your mind as one of them. It doesn't mean you think the man is actually a sexual predator. Afterall they say it is usually the ones you would never expect.

No issues, but it isn't surprising the man would be more noticeable due to the film, innocent reasons or not.

Flamingoknees · 02/06/2025 20:29

I can't see anything strange at all in this

So a man alone on a beach in the summer would also be dodgy? Lots of kids running around in swimwear there too.

GetOffTheCounter · 02/06/2025 14:25

Personally i love going to the cinema on my own. I am a bit of a film lover and if i am with someone else tend to worry about if they enjoy it or not.

It's less stressful going on my own.

this is exactly me. same with theatre.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/06/2025 20:32

So no adults should watch it. Or no men. Or no men unless they have children. And the children are with him. And he can prove they're his children.

Trumptonagain · 02/06/2025 20:34

This thread and some of the replies...

MN'ers, those of you that have young DC please remember if you can't make it to any of your DC's school events, sports day/nativity plays and the like please don't ask your DH, DF, DFIL or any male family member to attend in your place you could potentially end up getting them hung, drawn and quartered on this very forum.

hellokellie · 02/06/2025 20:34

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:11

Good grief. Yeah, yeah reasons, reasons🙄

In reality, of course it's bloody odd. I'd be curious if I saw a grown man sitting watching a cartoon alone in a cinema.

I must say though, the replies so far are amusing. Absolutely wild how people are just desperate to display how accepting and unflappable they are 😂

Edited

Are you okay?

I LOVE Disney and as an adult, Odeon Limitless member, I go and watch all sorts ALONE. I also went to Florida/Walt Disney World alone for 10 nights.

Take it that's okay though because I'm a woman?!

Are adults not allowed to watch absolutely any 'cartoons' even in their own home according to you? Also, its a live action movie, so not even a cartoon!

2025M · 02/06/2025 20:36

An adult family member is learning disabled. Their social worker encourages their move to independence to prepare them for when their parents pass by trialling different life tasks, which includes entertainment.

They love children's films and go in and watch on their own with their support worker outside. Eventually they will move it to support worker just getting them to the ticket office, then to the bus stop and so on and so on.

They will then move onto another life event/task.

It really doesn't have to be sinister as some people make out and it's quite sad that our family member could be being judged by their independence tasks like this.

I think you know that isn't the same thing though don't you? A beach isn't aimed predominately at kids, it is aimed at everybody. This film is aimed at that particular audience. I'm sure the man was there for perfectly innocent reasons. He may have children who used to like Lilo & Stitch, learning difficulties, walked in the wrong film and thought "hell I'll give it a go!, cinema pass, and goes there all of the time, an animation fan on the Stitch/alien additions, who knows. He still stands out though more than others imo. It doesn't mean his intentions were/are bad. I wouldn't automatically think they were, I would notice him however more than the typical audience it is aimed at, and probably lean more towards the innocent reasons.

OonaStubbs · 02/06/2025 20:37

Where do you draw the line? Are lone men allowed to watch Toy Story at the cinema? What about Anime?

So it is bad if he watches it alone at home?
Does it matter?
The fact OP noticed a man on his own in the cinema is telling. Cinema is pretty much dead anyway... which is really sad.

Littlebluecreature · 02/06/2025 20:41

No time to read all the responses, but have seen a few. In no way was I saying there could be something dodgy about this man watching/going to a kids film or that there was anything wrong with going to a film alone, Ive done this a number of times and really enjoy it.
I also wasn’t trying to be mean or judgy at all and wished I hadn’t posted it! I was just surprised at seeing a middle aged guy watching a kids film alone, that is all, I’ve not seen it before.

Of course not. Has op been back? I got the impression it wasn't because he was a lone, but the film he was seeing that made him stand out. Was op alluding to a sinister reason?
People go to the cinema alone all of the time, it's great.
Oh cross post, sorry.

This is the kind of narrow minded thinking that makes men unable to be themselves/express themselves and make themselves unhappy by not being able to do the things that bring them peace.

Unless the cinema was empty and he sat right next to you why don't you mind your business.

This thread reminds me of the time my 65+ years old OH was harangued by a posse of the mummy vigilantes for simply sitting on a bench near a children's play park and reading a book. As he chose to do the right thing and ignore them they got more and more hysterical, causing the children they claimed to be protecting to cry. When I turned up about 15 minutes into their performance with our grandchild who'd suddenly need the loo across in a supermarket then an ice-cream they told him he should have explained! He didn't bother to tell them that their antics were in fact amusing.
